When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 76: Chi Mo 30
Everyone could hear the veiled jab in his words. Gao Jing and the others sat up straighter, their eyes filled with the thrill of watching drama unfold.
Song Haomin was very calm. "I’m not a star either. Just an unknown actor. Far from a star."
Xu Jike frowned slightly. His attack had been skillfully deflected, and he was naturally displeased. He only felt a little better after noticing that Chi Mo wasn’t looking at Song Haomin, but was instead sharing her day’s experiences with Lin Meng and the others.
Tan You paid no mind to the two men’s rivalry. Looking at the pictures on Gao Jing’s phone, she asked, "Weren’t you scared walking on that? Didn’t you get dizzy?"
Gao Jing laughed. "It was alright. As long as you don’t look down and just look straight ahead, it’s actually fine. Haven’t you seen those people on glass skywalks? Some are super calm, while others are so scared they can’t even move their legs."
"All in all, it was a lot of fun."
Zhou Wenwen said, "You all seemed pretty calm."
Xiang Zhe chimed in, "I’ve done it before, so it wasn’t a big deal. Where did you guys go today?"
Lin Meng answered evasively, "We just walked around the botanical garden. The botanical garden here is quite interesting."
She had no romantic interest in Song Haomin. Even though he claimed he wasn’t famous, would someone in the entertainment industry really end up with a non-celebrity? Lin Meng was confident in herself; she didn’t think Song Haomin would be interested in her, so she didn’t waste any effort on him.
Lin Meng simply treated the day as a trip to the botanical garden with friends, not considering anything romantic. She figured Song Haomin had probably picked up on her feelings, as their interaction was quite plain, without a hint of romantic tension.
Tan You coolly observed Song Haomin integrating into the large group. In terms of looks, he was certainly not lacking. Tall with long legs, he had the perfect model’s build.
Plus, he had that natural presence actors carry, setting him apart from others. Based on external factors, Song Haomin was indeed the most outstanding among the guests.
Zhou Wenwen covered her mic and whispered, "I think he keeps looking at you. Is the new guy interested in you?"
Tan You shrugged. "I doubt it. What kind of beauties hasn’t he seen? What am I in comparison?"
Zhou Wenwen thought about it. "True. There are too many beautiful women in the industry, all different types, from voluptuous to slender. But beauty standards are getting more and more uniform these days. I feel like actors now aren’t as beautiful as they used to be."
Tan You replied, "Maybe. Why worry so much about other people? We just need to live our own lives well."
They spoke in very low voices, and with Zhou Wenwen covering her mic, no one else knew what they were saying. Plus, the two quickly rejoined the group conversation, so no one paid attention to what they had discussed.
During previous recordings, everyone had already shared their backstories. Now that a new guest had arrived, this round was unavoidable.
Gao Jing was the most direct. "Why did you get divorced?"
Song Haomin was taken aback. "That’s blunt."
Xiang Zhe explained, "It’s part of the show’s format. We all talked about these things when we first met. Of course, you can choose not to say."
Song Haomin said, "There’s nothing I can’t talk about. In our line of work, we’re apart more than we’re together. Once filming starts, we’re running all over the country. She had her own work to worry about, and the child rarely got to see her dad. We couldn’t make it work, so we divorced."
Gao Jing asked ambiguously, "Are you usually that busy?"
Song Haomin replied, "An unknown actor has to do everything they can, attending social events to fight for roles. In the end, the parts you get are usually the fifth or sixth male lead, and even then, there’s a ton of competition."
"And there’s a high chance the shows you film will never even air. So you’re just constantly fighting for audition opportunities, endlessly auditioning and filming." He sighed as he spoke, clearly feeling that his acting career wasn’t all that great.
Tan You didn’t understand life in the entertainment industry, so she didn’t know if he was telling the truth. But seeing Gao Jing fall silent, she had a vague feeling that what he said wasn’t wrong.
Xu Jike was wary. "You have a daughter?"
He knew Chi Mo had a soft spot for little girls. How could he not be on his guard?
Song Haomin was confused by the question. "My daughter is three years old. My mother is taking care of her because I’m too busy with work."
Zhou Wenwen was surprised. "You’re the only single dad here raising a kid. Why isn’t the child with her mother?"
Song Haomin gave a bitter smile. "She has a job too and often has to travel. I feel a bit more at ease with my parents helping me raise the child. She’s not a huge fan of kids; I think she felt like the child was holding her back."
"You can’t really blame her. We had the child by accident, and the birth did affect her career. She was on the rise at the time."
Speaking of his ex-wife, Song Haomin didn’t seem to hold any resentment. "Anyway, I guess we were fated to meet but not to be together."
’Tan You didn’t get it. If that was the case, why did he bring his ex-wife onto this show in her past life?’
"Do you... still keep in touch with your ex-wife?" Lin Meng asked, her eyes glinting with a gossipy curiosity.
"We do," Song Haomin admitted frankly. "Her career has been picking up lately, and she’s been thinking about getting back together."
"So what do you think?" How could Xu Jike pass up this opportunity? He immediately posed the question.
Song Haomin glanced at Tan You out of the corner of his eye. She was leaning on Gao Jing’s shoulder, the two of them very close, and her eyes suddenly crinkled as they whispered about something.
He clenched and unclenched his fingers. "Since we’ve already separated, we shouldn’t have lingering ties. I have no intention of getting back together. Right now, focusing on my career and taking care of my daughter are the most important things to me."
Tan You sat up straight. ’How did the plot change again?’ she thought. ’This little butterfly hasn’t even done anything, so why are these people, one after another, acting differently than before? All I did was add eighteen points to my beauty stat, how did that cause all these changes? Men really are visual creatures.’
The Beauty System, ever the chaos-seeker, chimed in, "Fight, fight! Male competition mode activated!"
’This is the scene I’ve always dreamed of! Men fighting over my host, fanning the flames of jealousy... Is it finally going to happen in this world?’
Tan You’s head throbbed. "Shut up!"
The Beauty System immediately deflated. "Oh. You’re so cold, Host."
Tan You retorted, "Don’t speak again without my permission."
’She was trying to figure out what Song Haomin was thinking; how could she spare the energy to bicker with the system? So, does this mean Song Haomin won’t be bringing his ex-wife to the show this time? Could Zhou Wenwen’s guess actually have been right?’
After being interrogated for a while, Song Haomin, who was no pushover, said, "As the newcomer, don’t I get a special privilege? Can I ask any one of you a question?"
The director immediately smelled gossip in the air. His beady eyes swept over Tan You, and he instantly understood Song Haomin’s intention. "No problem. You’re a guest who joined late, so the production team will grant you this privilege."
Tan You’s scalp tingled, and she had a bad feeling. Sure enough, her premonition came true the very next second.
Song Haomin stared at her. "In that case, I’d like to know Little Chi’s ideal type. Can a guy like me get a number from you?"
