Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Yi Ru 14

Seeing Zhou Yan stressing out, Yi Ru offered a suggestion. "Social media is huge now, right? You could invite a few influencers, but not too many. I’m sure they’d be happy to participate."

"But since it’s a matchmaking show, you can’t just pick people who will generate buzz. The core theme still has to be about the matchmaking itself."

Zhou Yan understood what Yi Ru meant. "Got it. Right now, I’m having the directors cast a wide net. After all, there are plenty of outstanding women in the world. To be honest, I feel like our previous shows were just child’s play."

"Bringing parents along for the matchmaking is definitely a unique concept among all the dating shows. I have a feeling it has the potential to be a massive hit."

Yi Ru said, "As long as you’re confident in it, that’s what matters. I have other plans this afternoon, so I can’t stay long."

Zhou Yan asked curiously, "What is it?"

"A former teacher of mine is sick, and I want to help her find a good oncologist," Yi Ru said simply. Zhou Yan fell silent. When the word "tumor" came up, everyone understood the implications.

If it were benign, there would be no need to make a special point of saying it.

Zhou Yan scrolled through her phone contacts. "I know a very well-known oncologist. I’ll send you his number."

Her expression turned a little sad. "My great-aunt was diagnosed with stomach cancer three years ago, and this Doctor Ji gave us a lot of professional advice. It’s just that Doctor Ji rarely performs surgery anymore, but it’s incredibly hard to get an appointment with him, especially since he’s getting on in years."

Yi Ru nodded. "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Sister Yan."

Zhou Yan checked the time. "The old doctor only has his clinic one day a week, and it happens to be today. I won’t keep you then. I’ll make a call for you, and you can go find him directly in a bit."

Yi Ru stood up. "I’ll head over right now. I have all the scans with me. I’ll go have the old doctor take a look first."

This was a common practice for many people seeking treatment in big cities. Since some patients weren’t fit for long-distance travel, their family members would first bring the scans and the diagnosis from the local hospital to a more advanced hospital. Only after receiving a specialist’s advice would they go back and bring the patient over.

As for the scans and diagnosis, they were naturally provided by Tan You. After all, while the Beauty System was a bit useless in some ways, it could still handle small tasks like this. Yi Ru just didn’t know that Tan You had a Beauty System; she simply thought Tan You was incredibly resourceful.

After a hasty farewell with Zhou Yan, both women went off to handle their own business. Zhou Yan returned to the rat race of her new show, while Yi Ru headed to the oncology hospital to find Doctor Ji.

It was impossible to get a same-day appointment at a major hospital; you had to book in advance. Fortunately, because Zhou Yan had called ahead, Yi Ru found Doctor Ji’s consultation room without any trouble.

Doctor Ji was over sixty, with salt-and-pepper hair, and he exuded the professional and dignified air of a senior department head. He was in the middle of a consultation when Yi Ru entered. She stood respectfully to one side. "Hello, Doctor Ji. I was referred by Zhou Yan."

Doctor Ji slid his glasses down his nose to get a better look at Yi Ru before speaking. "Alright. Wait outside for now. I’ll see you after I’m done with these patients."

Yi Ru understood. When she came in, she had seen many patients and their families waiting in line outside. She smiled. "When do you get off work, Doctor Ji? I can wait and see you then. That way, I won’t take up anyone else’s time."

Pleased by Yi Ru’s consideration, Doctor Ji’s mood improved. He smiled. "In that case, come back after six."

Yi Ru smiled. "Okay. Please, carry on."

She walked out of the consultation room, gently closing the door behind her, and found a place to sit. Watching the patients and their families come and go, Yi Ru’s heart grew heavy.

An oncology hospital... a place like this was filled with a suffocating, oppressive atmosphere. The psychological pressure on the medical staff who worked here long-term must be immense.

Looking at the patients seeking treatment, not a single one had a cheerful expression. After sitting outside for just a short while, Yi Ru already felt a heavy, sinking feeling in her chest.

Yi Ru didn’t wait right outside Doctor Ji’s room for long. Instead, she walked to the end of the hallway. From there, she could see the various doctors’ offices and could clearly monitor any activity near Doctor Ji’s room.

After standing at the end of the hall for a bit, Yi Ru returned to the area outside Doctor Ji’s room. This time, instead of watching the people pass by, she lowered her head and began sketching in a small notebook.

Even while waiting at the hospital, Yi Ru didn’t stay idle. She was a very capable professional. By the time the workday ended, she had added several more design sketches to her little notebook.

During a break, Tan You sent her a few pictures.

"These suits... they’re gorgeous." Staring at the design sketches Tan You had sent, Yi Ru’s eyes narrowed slightly. She clearly had a thing for men in formal wear. No matter the type of uniform, she found it attractive.

"I thought you only designed womenswear. I didn’t expect you to be able to design menswear too," Yi Ru marveled. "Little Youzi, you’re a treasure trove of talents! You can design clothes, cook, dance, and even manage finances. You’re practically an all-rounder."

"I wouldn’t say I’m an all-rounder," Tan You replied with a smiling squint. "I can only do these few things. There’s still a lot I don’t know."

Yi Ru replied, "Is this what people mean when they say the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know? I think I finally get it."

"Speaking of the clothing sponsorship for the show, I’m planning to create a separate collection for it."

Tan You said, "You can make the call on that. This is your career."

Yi Ru smiled. "Yes, my own career. It’s just that the timeline will be very tight. I have to send the designs back, contact the factory, and have these clothes rush-produced with overtime."

Time flies when one is absorbed in work. After seeing his last patient, Doctor Ji came out and noticed someone was still sitting outside his consultation room.

His salt-and-pepper eyebrows rose. He immediately recalled the young woman who had come looking for him in the mid-afternoon. She was completely focused, a sketchbook spread open on her lap. ’Is she drawing?’ he wondered.

"Ahem." Seeing that he had been standing next to Yi Ru for nearly a minute while she remained lost in her own world, Doctor Ji couldn’t help but clear his throat to get her attention.

Yi Ru snapped back to reality and looked up at Doctor Ji. "I’m so sorry, Doctor Ji. I got completely absorbed for a moment. My apologies."

Doctor Ji smiled and pushed the door to his room open again. "It’s fine. Come in and talk."

Yi Ru tucked her sketchbook into her small bag and then pulled out a tablet. "A high school teacher of mine was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer. These are her previous CT and MRI scans, along with various lab reports."

Doctor Ji looked at the tablet pushed in front of him, unsurprised by Yi Ru’s approach. He had seen this sort of thing many times before.

After carefully examining the scans for two minutes, Doctor Ji finally spoke. "It’s quite clear. Did your teacher’s family not come?"

Yi Ru gave a small smile. "Her family doesn’t know I’m helping to find a doctor. They’re the kind of people who hate to trouble others. I figured I’d get things arranged first, to avoid giving them hope only to let them down."
