When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase-Chapter 711: Is This What Love Feels Like? (Part 1)
She trimmed the roses neatly one by one and then arranged them in a vase. Sheng Jiayu stared at the delicate petals, feeling a bit of sweetness in her heart.
She actually didn’t like roses very much, but that didn’t matter. Women do like receiving flowers, after all.
Lying on the bed, she received a message from Mu Ke saying he’d already arrived home.
Sheng Jiayu stared at the ceiling. She really hadn’t expected to accept another man after divorcing Xin Ke, but at least, for now, she wasn’t resisting. That was good, a good start.
She had no idea when she fell asleep. The next day she woke up and looked out the window through the curtains, furrowing her brow, suddenly sensing something and hurriedly sitting up.
She got out of bed, pulled the curtain open, and was stunned.
The outside world was wrapped in silver; a thick layer of snow weighed down the pine trees in the community. On the building opposite, the snow on the roof was exceptionally smooth, with no footprints at all.
Ignoring her flimsy pajamas, Sheng Jiayu opened the floor-to-ceiling window and walked out. She could see many children playing in the snow downstairs, and someone had even built a crooked snowman by the entrance of the unit.
Was this B City’s first snow of the year?
It had actually arrived on Christmas day, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Sheng Jiayu’s gaze shifted slightly, seeing the familiar car in the parking lot beside her. Mu Ke’s. He came?
She quickly returned to her room, walked to the door but didn’t open it, just pressed her ear against it to listen for any sounds outside. It was very quiet, not a sound.
Sheng Jiayu opened the door and went out. The living room and kitchen were empty.
Mu Ke didn’t come?
But his car was clearly parked downstairs.
As she was thinking this, the door made a soft "click."
Mu Ke pushed the door open, carrying a big plastic bag with a nearby supermarket’s logo on it. Turns out he went to buy things.
Just as Sheng Jiayu was about to speak, she saw Mu Ke’s brow furrow. He promptly placed the bag on the ground and strode briskly towards her.
Sheng Jiayu hadn’t figured out what he was doing yet, only felt her body being turned. She lost her balance and was suddenly lifted horizontally.
"Mu Ke, what are you doing?"
Mu Ke carried her into the bedroom and placed her on the bed. His gaze searched the floor, found the slippers beside the bed, and half-knelt to put them on her.
"The floor’s cold. Didn’t you know to wear slippers?"
Sheng Jiayu felt slightly embarrassed. She certainly couldn’t say it was because she wanted to reduce her footsteps, so she didn’t wear slippers when she ran to the door.
After putting on her shoes, Mu Ke stood up, "I’ll make breakfast, quick. Freshen up and then come out to eat."
"Okay."
Sheng Jiayu stood in front of the mirror brushing her teeth, looking at her bare yet still fair skin in the mirror, then remembered the way Mu Ke held her ankle. Her cheeks blushed a shade of red.
Mu Ke’s fingers were a bit cold, probably because he had just come back from outside. Yet Sheng Jiayu found the skin he had touched miraculously felt a bit hot.
Today should count as the first day she and Mu Ke officially established their relationship. It felt... kind of strange.
After freshening up, Sheng Jiayu came out and saw Mu Ke’s tall figure standing in the kitchen, wearing an apron that didn’t quite suit him. His expression was cool and focused.
Sheng Jiayu slowly walked over, "What are you making?"
"Little dumplings."
"Oh, do you need my help?"
Mu Ke paused his actions and turned his head to look at her.
