Chapter 701: Chapter 701: Mu Ke, Let’s Give It a Try (11)

"What happened to him?" Jiayu asked.

Su Chen touched his nose, "Miss Sheng, isn’t it a bit awkward for us to talk here on the main road?"

Jiayu didn’t really want to have dinner with Su Chen, but she was inexplicably curious about Mu Ke’s situation. After hesitating for two seconds, she nodded, "I know a nearby Japanese restaurant that’s quite good. Do you mind, Mr. Su?"

"Japanese food, huh, I like it. Let’s go."

The warm tatami, fresh and bright sashimi, and some cooked dishes looked very appetizing under the light.

Su Chen picked up a piece of Arctic surf clam sashimi and put it in his mouth, talking indistinctly, "Hmm, not bad at all. Very fresh."

Jiayu took a sip of tea and asked, "Mr. Su, what happened to him?"

A hint of amusement flashed in Su Chen’s eyes as he swallowed the food in his mouth before saying, "He went back to S City a few days ago."

Back to S City?

Jiayu knew Mu Ke was from S City, but he had been staying in B City since returning from abroad. Did something happen at home for him to suddenly go back?

As this thought just crossed her mind, she heard Su Chen across from her say, "His grandfather passed away."

"What?"

Jiayu was startled. Su Chen wiped the soy sauce stain from the corner of his mouth, "His grandfather was old and in poor health, always relying on medication. Frankly, everyone was mentally prepared. He’d been hospitalized for his condition before, so they didn’t notify him. But suddenly he was not okay, and they quickly informed Mu Ke. He rushed back and went into the operating room. If the surgery had been successful, he might have lasted a little longer, but..."

Su Chen shrugged as he said this, indicating the surgery wasn’t successful.

Jiayu quickly grasped the key point, "So, his grandfather passed away during the surgery?"

Su Chen’s expression finally grew serious, nodding, "Yes, right under the surgical knife, a cerebral hemorrhage."

Jiayu’s mind exploded with a loud "boom." She wasn’t a doctor, nor had she experienced anything like that, but inexplicably, she felt she could understand the impact this had on Mu Ke.

Jiayu’s face slightly changed, and then Su Chen spoke again, "Miss Sheng, I guess that guy won’t tell you these things, but this incident has indeed hit him hard. He’s always been proud and aloof, and no one’s comfort would work. I’m telling you this because I hope you can be there for him. Of course, if I’m being too nosy, just ignore what I said."

Jiayu didn’t respond, only pressing her lips tightly together.

Su Chen spoke again, "Actually, no one can be blamed for this. Everyone knew about the old man’s condition, but his sudden passing is still hard to take in. Mu Ke and his grandfather had a deep bond. His parents were busy when he was young, and he was mostly raised by his grandparents."

Jiayu still said nothing, feeling an indescribable sensation inside—part pain, part numbness.

Jiayu barely tasted the Japanese food, and after parting ways with Su Chen, she drove aimlessly and inexplicably found herself on the airport highway.

By the time Jiayu realized, she couldn’t turn around and had to keep moving forward until she reached the airport.

Should she buy a ticket to S City?

It wasn’t conceit, but she felt she might be the only one who could comfort Mu Ke now; otherwise, Su Chen wouldn’t have approached her.

But since Mu Ke didn’t tell her, was it right for her to just go over there?

Was it out of sympathy? Or something else, Jiayu wasn’t sure herself. Should she just go?
