Chapter 557: Chapter 557: Mrs. Sheng’s Secret (7)

Qi Cheng made a gesture, stopping Tang Yanqi’s words: "Tangtang, I’m going in to play with Xiao Yi."

Tang Yanqi watched Qi Cheng’s distant back as he ran away, clearly not wanting to discuss the topic further. Tang Yanqi pressed her lips together and followed him inside.

Qi Cheng didn’t want to talk, so she didn’t bring it up again.

Bai Xue had an afternoon date with Gu Yang, so she left shortly after, and Qi Cheng and Bai Bing left with her. Tang Yanqi played with Su Weiyi for a while, until the little girl fell asleep for her nap, allowing Tang Yanqi a moment of peace.

She went back to the study to read for a while and practiced translation before getting up to put the book back on the shelf. Perhaps because she stood up too quickly, a wave of darkness flashed before her eyes, and her steps wobbled, causing the book in her hand to fall to the floor.

Tang Yanqi held onto the bookshelf for support, feeling better after a moment, and slowly picked up the book from the floor, putting it back.

Her gaze shifted slightly, landing on the three old photo albums beside her. Their craftsmanship, to put it nicely, was vintage; to put it less kindly, it was tacky.

These should have been brought over by Sheng Jianan from Mr. Sheng’s belongings.

Tang Yanqi casually pulled out the largest one, slowly leaned back on the sofa, and started flipping through it.

Regarding Mr. Sheng, she actually didn’t know much. In her presence, he was always a kind and affectionate elder, but in reality, Mr. Sheng was a man of influence in his younger days.

Flipping through a few pages, there were many very old photos, most of which were of people she had never seen, except for Mr. Sheng.

On one particular page, Tang Yanqi paused. It was a large group photo, with the rare occurrence of names written beside each person. They were all in military uniforms, and many names were framed, likely indicating those who had passed away.

The person standing next to Mr. Sheng was framed, Tang Jianfeng.

The person was unrecognizable to Tang Yanqi, but the name was instantly clear—it was her, no, to be precise, it was Tang Wan’s grandfather.

Tang Yanqi stared for a few seconds, then continued to flip through. The following pages were mostly photos of Mr. Sheng and a woman, likely their wedding photos. In that era, wearing a Western wedding dress showed that the Sheng Family was already very prosperous back then.

Mr. Sheng only ever married one wife in his lifetime. Even after Grandma Sheng passed away at a young age, he never remarried.

From the photos, Grandma Sheng had gentle features, a delicate beauty that didn’t look bad despite the photography limitations of the time.

As she continued, the photos became more disorganized, with both old and many new photos, including many of Sheng Jianan. However, in these photos, the young man, though his eyes were open, looked devoid of spark. Tang Yanqi knew this was during his period of blindness.

Her fingers gently slid over the young man’s face; she was all too familiar with that look. Without his radiant eyes, he was still the boy she deeply loved.

Tang Yanqi looked slowly, photo by photo, before turning to the last page leisurely and unhurriedly.

This page only had one photo, indeed flipped over, the white back facing her.

Tang Yanqi reached out to pull out the photo, turned it right side up, and suddenly paused, furrowing her delicate brows.

The photo looked so familiar, and the people in it seemed familiar too—Tang Ruhai, her mother, along with another woman appearing in Tang Ruhai’s album, along with some other people’s group photo.
