When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase-Chapter 552: Mrs. Sheng’s Secret (2)
Mr. Sheng’s words once again brought that fleeting sense of oddity to Tang Yanqi’s heart, and she carefully savored them.
Theoretically, parents all hope their children can come back more often to spend time with them. Even in wealthy families, there might be a lot of messy feuds, but this desire usually doesn’t change.
But why did Mr. Sheng say such a thing?
Moreover, his words didn’t sound like he didn’t want them to return, but rather as if he was afraid of them coming back, as though they might get hurt if they did.
Combining this with Mr. Sheng’s previous words, a thought flashed quickly through Tang Yanqi’s mind, an unclear thought that, nonetheless, made her feel a bit apprehensive.
"Alright, let’s head out. You and Jianan need to hold a wedding ceremony again. If you need anything, just let us know. We wronged you so much before, we’ll make it up this time."
Tang Yanqi did not respond to the topic but instead said, "Is this Grandpa’s study? I want to stay here for a while."
Mr. Sheng nodded, opened the door, and left on his own. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
All the settings in Mr. Sheng’s study remained unchanged. Although he’d been gone for three years, nothing here had changed. It was probably Sheng Jianan’s decision.
Tang Yanqi stood before the bookshelf, her gaze landing on a small photo frame. It should be a picture of Mr. Sheng, Sheng Jianan, and Sheng Jiayu together.
Although the elderly man in the photo had wrinkles, he looked vigorous and energetic. Sheng Jiayu wore a watermelon-red knee-length dress, looking very beautiful, not as sharp as she seemed now in the business world, but rather, she had a bit of a youthful spirit. Sheng Jianan was dressed in a simple white T-shirt and black sweatpants, his brows wild and unruly, clearly a rebellious young boy.
Tang Yanqi stared at the photo for a while, her thoughts drifting far away.
Why did she feel that Mr. Sheng’s words held such profound meaning, and why did she feel that his apology was not just because he had once vented his anger on her, but also because he had wrongly accused her?
But what had he wrongly accused her of?
Mr. Sheng’s passing had nothing to do with her, that’s a fact. Could it be related to...
Tang Yanqi’s nerves tightened. She suddenly heard a ’click,’ interrupting her tense train of thought. Sheng Jianan pushed the door open and came in.
"Why aren’t you coming out?"
The broken train of thought didn’t reconnect. Tang Yanqi smiled, "Nothing, I just wanted to stay in Grandpa’s study a little longer."
Sheng Jianan closed the door behind him, saw the photo frame in front of her, picked it up, and explained to Tang Yanqi with a smile, "This was taken when Grandpa celebrated his birthday that year."
Tang Yanqi nodded, "Grandpa’s been gone for three years, and this place still remains the same. It was your instruction, right?"
Sheng Jianan did not answer but leaned closer to Tang Yanqi, "You were also gone for three years. Lake Bay Villa and the apartment remain the same."
The man’s eyes were filled with a teasing smile. Because of his approach, Tang Yanqi’s face slightly reddened, and she glared at him, "You’re incorrigible."
Sheng Jianan chuckled softly a couple of times before nodding, "Yes, both Grandpa’s study and bedroom have been kept the way they were. The Sheng Family’s old house is big enough that we don’t need to clear out these two rooms."
Tang Yanqi nodded. Sheng Jianan suddenly remembered something and let out a quiet laugh, "Actually, there’s no point in keeping them. The housekeeper comes to clean every week; Grandpa’s scent is long gone. When he first passed, I shut myself in his room for days, just trying to feel a bit more of his presence, to feel like he hadn’t left so quickly."
