Chapter 539: Chapter 539: Reunion with Lu Qilin (9)

Tang Yanqi walked out of her former room, and slowly entered the master bedroom. On the wall above the bed was a wedding photograph. By today’s standards, it seemed a bit tacky and somewhat outdated.

The man in the photo was smiling just right, while the woman had a bright smile on her face. Whether she had grown up or been tempered by the years, Tang Yanqi could instantly discern Tang Ruhai’s insincere smile in the photo, which did not reach his eyes.

The drawer on one side of the bedside table was inexplicably open, with a small key dangling from it, as if it was usually kept locked.

The nightstand and the inside of the drawer were covered in heavy dust, but one could vaguely make out that there were two photo albums inside the drawer. Tang Yanqi reached out, took them out, and patted off the dust, causing her to cough twice.

Flipping open the first page, there was a color photo that clearly had some age—a family portrait.

In it, Tang Ruhai and Shen Wanqing stood side by side, with Shen Wanqing holding a little girl in her arms with large eyes, who must have been Tang Wan.

Turning a few more pages, there were other old photos of the Tang Family. The photography skills seemed poor by today’s standards, but one could witness traces of Tang Wan’s growth.

But aside from the first family portrait, almost none of the photos included Tang Ruhai. Most were solo photos of Tang Wan, and occasionally there were group photos with only Shen Wanqing and her.

After going through them, Tang Yanqi put the album back and picked up the smaller album to take a look. She thought it would just be more photos of the Tang Family, but to her surprise, the first page of the second album was a black-and-white photo. Despite its colorlessness, it was clear that the woman in the photo had delicate features, her eyes holding a charm, and the outdated, kitschy curls could not conceal her sweet disposition.

Tang Yanqi was slightly startled. Although her appearance had changed somewhat, she could still recognize that it was her mother.

Flipping through it, there were many photos of her mother. Tang Yanqi bit her lip, holding the album, and turned to leave.

Sheng Jianan was waiting for her downstairs. Amongst the dust, he stood out, looking particularly bright and handsome.

Tang Yanqi approached Sheng Jianan with the album in hand. "I’d like to take this with me, if that’s okay?"

"Of course."

Not long after leaving the Tang Family, Sheng Jianan received a call from Qiao Zi. Tang Yanqi couldn’t hear the conversation, but from Sheng Jianan’s slight frown and sharp tone, it seemed something urgent had happened, and likely not something good.

After he hung up, Tang Yanqi spoke, "If you have things to deal with, go ahead. I’ll just take a cab back."

Sheng Jianan hesitated for a moment before nodding. He truly had urgent matters, and taking her along might bore her.

He dropped Tang Yanqi off at a convenient place to catch a cab. "Text me when you get home."

Tang Yanqi smiled lightly, "Got it, I’m not a child."

She checked the time; it was already past four. Su Weiyi was supposed to go to a teacher’s home for painting lessons today, so she didn’t have anything pressing to attend to at home. Also, tangentially, she realized that she was near the law firm where Bai Bing worked.

She walked along the street for a while and then turned a corner to reach her destination. Tang Yanqi pulled out her phone and sent a message to Bai Bing. As her gaze swept casually, it was suddenly caught by a familiar figure standing under a tree by the roadside.

The man was leaning lazily against the car door with his legs crossed. Behind him was a black Mercedes—not the car Tang Yanqi remembered, but the man was the same. Three years had passed, yet there seemed to be no change in Lu Qilin.
