Chapter 99: Chapter 99: The Window That God Closed

In the car, Luna Axton’s phone, tucked in her coat pocket, suddenly buzzed.

She took it out and saw it was a message from Blaze Fairchild.

Luna: Happy! We’re about to go see Lindsey’s unfurnished apartment.

Blaze Fairchild: I’ll send you a designer’s contact.

Luna: Okay, I’ll forward it to Lindsey.

"Who are you texting? You look so happy." Joy Coleman leaned on her shoulder, trying to get a look.

"Tsk tsk~"

The words flooded into Lindsey’s mind, forcing her to process them. She was caught off guard by the huge display of public affection.

’I never would’ve guessed. The stone-faced CEO actually asks if someone is having fun?’

Lindsey quickly corrected herself. "Ah, no, that’s not right. You’re his wife, not just anyone."

Luna Axton shook her head helplessly, worried about her friend’s reading comprehension.

Ms. Brooks, sitting in the back row, watched the two girls acting so close and shook her head as she tugged on Jenna Axton, who was beside her.

"Luna is so smart when it comes to her studies, so how is she so hopeless when it comes to romance?"

Jenna Axton covered her mouth and whispered, "That must be the window God closed."

"Hahaha~" Ms. Brooks couldn’t hold back and let out a hearty laugh.

Joy Coleman and Luna Axton turned around and both looked at her.

Ms. Brooks immediately stopped, waving her hands in denial. "It’s nothing, it’s nothing."

It was obviously a clumsy attempt to cover something up.

The group chatted and laughed all the way to the residential complex, Atheria Bay, where Joy Coleman swiped her card to let everyone in.

She happily started explaining to Luna Axton and Jenna Axton.

"There are only a few new units available in the complex. I looked at so many places with my parents and a real estate agent, and this was the only one with a good price and a great location, close to the mall and the park."

"It’s in this block. The address is easy to remember: Building 1, Unit 2, Apartment 3."

"Did you pay in full?" Jenna Axton asked, noticing how smoothly she swiped the card. If they’d taken out a mortgage, the loan processing wouldn’t be finished yet, and she wouldn’t have gotten the access card and everything so quickly.

Ms. Brooks chimed in, her hand still linked with Jenna Axton’s arm.

"We bought a 140-square-meter place. Lindsey is the only child in three generations, so the whole family invested everything here. I even took out the pension funds of all four grandparents. We figured the renovations would cost a lot too, so we just decided to pay in full to avoid putting pressure on the kid."

"That’s true. There’s so much pressure these days. If she had a mortgage, she’d be completely tied down." Jenna Axton was not someone who was out of touch with reality.

On the contrary, having raised Luna on her own, she knew all too well what the real world was like.

But she never mentioned it to Luna, bearing the hardships alone in silence.

This was a parent’s love for their child—always wanting to do everything in their power to make their child’s life a little easier.

As the group was talking, none of them noticed the man walking toward them.

Not until Joy Coleman exclaimed, "What are you doing here?"

Luna Axton had been focused on her surroundings and hadn’t noticed the approaching man either.

Only when Joy Coleman spoke did she look ahead.

Wyatt Kingston was walking toward them, accompanied by three or four other people.

The two groups met on the road inside the complex, and Joy Coleman ducked behind Luna Axton.

Luna Axton was confused. "What are you hiding for?"

"He’s like a ghost you can’t shake off," Joy Coleman’s indignant voice sounded by her ear.

"Did he do something to you?"

Before Luna Axton could get an answer from Joy Coleman, Wyatt Kingston had already walked up to them.

"Hey, girlie. Fancy meeting you here."

’So lame.’

Although Joy Coleman was complaining internally, when Ms. Brooks asked warmly, "Who’s this?" she had no choice but to step forward obediently.

"Dad, Mom, this is my current client, Wyatt Kingston. Mr. Kingston."

"Hello, Uncle. Hello, Auntie." Wyatt Kingston bowed respectfully, his usual flippant attitude replaced by one of reverence.

"Hello, Mr. Kingston." Ms. Brooks was taken aback by his overly enthusiastic demeanor.

’He even called her ’girlie’. There’s definitely something fishy going on. I’ll have to interrogate Joy Coleman later.’

’It’s one thing not to tell her father she’s dating, but why wouldn’t she tell her own mother?’

"Ah, well, you seem busy, Mr. Kingston, so I won’t disturb you." Joy Coleman wanted to run. She really didn’t want to be followed around by this man 24/7.

"Did you buy a place here too, girlie?" Wyatt Kingston asked, feigning ignorance.

’This was a golden opportunity. He had to make a good impression in front of his future parents-in-law.’

"No, that’s not it. I haven’t even decided if I want to buy here yet," Joy Coleman denied flatly.

A faint smile played on Wyatt Kingston’s lips. He turned to the property consultant behind him and asked, "Are there any units available above, below, or next to the one that girlie bought?"

The crowd watched Joy Coleman and Wyatt Kingston with mixed expressions. The air between them was thick with tension.

Joy Coleman shook her head frantically, hoping the property consultant wouldn’t sell her out.

But with the end of the year approaching, making a sale to earn a living was clearly more important.

"The units above and below Ms. Coleman’s have been sold. However, the apartment across from hers, number 4, is still available due to the number and floor."

Upon hearing this, Wyatt Kingston’s smile turned playful. "Good. I’ll take that one. Let’s sign the contract now."

Defeated, Joy Coleman cursed with a laugh, "Calling you a lingering ghost is a compliment. You’re a damn barnacle."

"Thanks for the compliment, girlie. My reconnaissance skills are pretty good, right?"

Even though she was clearly insulting him, he took it as a compliment.

"Uncle, Auntie, I’m not a bad guy. I just like your daughter, it’s just that she doesn’t happen to like me back."

Wyatt Kingston’s words were so direct that Ms. Brooks grabbed Mr. Coleman’s hand in shock.

’This guy is clearly a social bulldozer. Declaring his love for someone’s daughter at their first meeting.’

’And he’s already calling us ’Uncle’ and ’Auntie’ as if we’re old friends.’

Having taught for half their lives, Ms. Brooks and Mr. Coleman had never met anyone so difficult to handle. As the pillar of the family, Mr. Coleman stepped forward to speak.

"Mr. Kingston, this ’liking’ you speak of is your own business, but it’s wrong to cause distress to the other party."

"Then..." Wyatt Kingston listened attentively to the lesson, then turned his questioning gaze to Joy Coleman. "Should I leave?"

"Get..."

"Ahem!" Mr. Coleman cleared his throat, reminding his daughter to watch her words and actions. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Joy Coleman immediately straightened up, stood tall, bowed slightly, and made a gesturing motion. "Mr. Kingston, please see yourself out."

"Goodbye." Wyatt Kingston waved and walked away.

Joy Coleman straightened up, letting out a visible sigh of relief.

But unexpectedly, after taking just a few steps, Wyatt Kingston turned back and stood in front of Luna Axton.

"Sister-in-law, my future happiness depends on you." He blinked his charming, almond-shaped eyes, openly plotting right in front of Joy Coleman.

’How can a man be so... bewitching?’

Flustered, Luna Axton stated woodenly, "I’m only on Lindsey’s side."

"Hmph." Joy Coleman snorted heavily through her nose, wrapping an arm around Luna’s shoulder to declare her ownership. "Luna’s my person. Don’t even think about it."

Wyatt Kingston raised an eyebrow. "Understood. I’ll be sure to pay a personal visit to the Fairchild Estate for the New Year."

Joy Coleman glared daggers at Wyatt Kingston’s retreating back, as if she could burn a hole right through it.

"What kind of person is he?" Ms. Brooks asked the two girls.

"We just have a professional relationship. It’s nothing, don’t worry," Joy Coleman explained.

Ms. Brooks was clearly unconvinced. Her gaze fell on Luna Axton. "Is that so, Luna?"

"I don’t know him well. He knows Blaze," Luna Axton said truthfully, though she omitted many of the details that would cause worry.

’Her impression of Wyatt Kingston was that he was hard to control and full of hot air; you never knew if he was telling the truth or just trying to sweet-talk you.’

’The Kingston Family was in the complicated entertainment industry, and from all the reports, that particular pond wasn’t exactly known for being clear.’

’Combined with Wyatt Kingston’s personality, no one knew what outrageous thing he might do next.’

’But she couldn’t say any of this to Ms. Brooks or Mr. Coleman, lest they worry all the way from Kensing.’

"Ms. Brooks, Mr. Coleman, please don’t worry. Lindsey and I will look after each other."

"That’s right. And even though there are two apartments per floor with one elevator, the elevator door on my side won’t open without my key card. If he crosses a line, I’ll call the police. I studied law, you think I’m going to let him bully me?"

Joy Coleman cooed, hugging Ms. Brooks’s arm. "Besides, even after the renovation is done, the apartment will need to air out for a year. By then, his little infatuation will have probably worn off."

Luna Axton and Joy Coleman, like sisters, worked together in perfect sync.

"True, true." Ms. Brooks was convinced. Linking arms with one girl on each side, she said, "Come on, let’s go see our apartment."
