Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Confession

After Blaze left, Luna was alone in the room.

She held her phone, endlessly searching online for articles and reports about children born to closely related parents.

The text and images made her sad, heartbroken, and afraid.

’She couldn’t imagine it. What would she do if Lucky was one of them?’

She couldn’t bear losing Lucky, let alone Grandpa Fairchild and Blaze.

Especially Grandpa Fairchild. He had mentioned Lucky multiple times during dinner with the Frost family earlier, so clearly looking forward to the baby’s birth.

She only hid her phone when Blaze returned, pretending that nothing was wrong.

She forced a smile. "How’s Mom?"

"Her fever’s gone down. When I got there, Grant was boiling some pear water, and she was crocheting a wool hat. It has a strawberry pattern, so it’s probably for you."

"That’s good." Luna’s mind wasn’t on her mother, so she didn’t say much else.

Her gaze followed Blaze as he tidied up the clothes they had worn out earlier.

She desperately wanted to come clean with Blaze.

’Lucky is his child, too. As the father, he has a right to know about the baby’s health.’

’But if I say anything, what will happen to my mother?’

’Mom has kept this secret for over twenty years, and I’m about to be the one to reveal it.’

’Mom would rather get sick than meet the Frost family. If I say this, will she not be able to live with me anymore?’

Luna lowered her head, unable to look Blaze in the eye for what she was about to say.

She said, "Blaze, let’s schedule an amniocentesis. I want to have the fluid tested for a comprehensive screening."

"That’s not necessary."

Blaze’s tone was normal, which made Luna even more anxious.

"I... I might carry certain recessive genes. They could affect Lucky’s health."

Luna spoke more bluntly, trying to get Blaze to agree with her.

Blaze stopped tidying the clothes and sat down on the edge of the bed.

He cupped Luna’s face in his hands, their eyes meeting.

"Luna, everything is fine. Trust me," he said, his tone exceptionally firm.

Luna grew frantic. ’Why can’t he understand what I’m saying?’

’He’s normally the one most concerned about Lucky’s health, so why won’t he just agree?’

Luna looked up at the ceiling, telling herself over and over not to panic, to take it slow.

"I just have a bad feeling. I’m worried Lucky won’t be healthy. We should do a chromosomal screening, it would be for the best. We didn’t even get a premarital exam when we got our marriage license."

Blaze saw how agitated she was, even as she tried to control her emotions.

’She won’t tell me anything.’

He was torn between being angry with her and his heart aching for her quiet endurance.

He leaned in, kissed her forehead, and then whispered,

"The Frost family’s daughter is adopted. She wasn’t born to Mrs. Frost."

Luna’s pupils trembled as she stared unblinkingly at Blaze.

’Adopted... no blood relation.’

"You knew all along."

"Yes."

"Then you... and I..."

Everything had changed so suddenly. With so many emotions swirling inside her, Luna was at a loss for what to say.

"It was Rosalind Fairchild who poisoned me..."

Blaze held nothing back, relaying his entire conversation with Jenna Axton and explaining the whole story to Luna.

After listening quietly, Luna asked him, "Were they in love?"

"I think so," Blaze guessed. "You saw the surveillance footage from the Hepatology Hospital. Otherwise, Rosalind Fairchild wouldn’t have fled in such a panic."

Luna frowned. "What does that have to do with her?"

"She’s in love with my younger uncle."

Rosalind Fairchild, from a top-tier, prominent family, ended up marrying a minor bureaucrat. To the outside world, it looked like it was for love.

But Blaze’s investigation revealed a classic case of settling for a substitute.

Rosalind Fairchild only married Miles Jacobs to see Russell Frost more often.

When Miles Jacobs first joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russell Frost was his mentor.

"It’s so messy. Just like you and..."

Blaze shot a piercing glare her way, and Luna immediately covered her mouth, swallowing the rest of her words.

Blaze braced his hands on either side of her, his eyes narrowing. "Me and who?"

He was so close, his aura so dangerous.

Luna propped herself up on the bed, tilting her head back to get a little farther away from him.

But Blaze hooked a hand behind her neck, the corner of his lips curling into a wicked grin as he asked,

"Me and who? Hmm?"

Blaze leaned closer and closer until the tips of their noses were touching.

He whispered, "Luna."

Their hot breaths mingled, and Luna’s traitorous heart began to pound out of rhythm.

"N-no one."

Blaze chuckled, his voice husky with a playful threat. "If you lie, I’m going to kiss you."

"I..." The word had barely left Luna’s lips before Blaze suddenly kissed her.

The kiss was unimpeded, leaving Blaze thoroughly satisfied.

His eyes crinkled in a smile as his tongue teased and tangled with hers.

Luna was obediently pliant, and her clumsy kissing technique delighted him.

He released her lips, a thin strand of saliva connecting them for a moment as he pulled back.

Luna’s face instantly flushed crimson. ’How humiliating!’

Before she had much time to rest or catch her breath,

The next second, Blaze held her chin and kissed her again.

It was a deep, lingering kiss, and Luna felt her body temperature steadily rising.

Her heart hammered out of control, the beat so loud it was deafening in her ears.

This kiss was urgent and heavy, thick with possessiveness.

Luna’s head was tilted back, forced to receive his kiss.

With glistening eyes, she let out soft, broken moans, a clear sign of her arousal.

The corners of Blaze’s eyes were red, his breaths coming in harsh gasps as his chest heaved violently.

Fearing he would lose control, he pulled back just in time.

"Want to shower together?"

His voice was raspy, and it sent a shiver through Luna’s heart.

’Showering together. Facing each other, naked.’

She...

Luna bit her lip. Blaze’s gaze was scorching. She understood.

"Okay," she bravely agreed.

Delighted, Blaze kissed her on the lips. "I’ll go get our robes."

"Okay."

Now that their feelings were mutual, Blaze was no longer in a hurry. He was patient.

He took care of Luna with meticulous tenderness.

’Never in her life had anyone stared at her so intently.’

In the steamy shower room, her flustered eyes didn’t know where to rest.

The man’s broad, sculpted pecs, the well-defined and sensual lines of his abs, and... 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Luna immediately averted her gaze, as if one more glance would get her pinned down and thoroughly ravaged.

But Blaze noticed her small movement and breathed against her ear, teasing, "Satisfied?"

WHOOSH—

It was like a roar in her mind. The heat rushed to her face, searing and leaving her flustered.

Blaze stood beside her, his gaze fixed on the delicate, smooth, elegant curve of her neck.

He turned, leaned in, and kissed her lips.

This kiss was different from before—it was recklessly possessive, an unquenchable torrent of desire.

Before long, Luna’s breathing grew ragged. Her soft moans mixed with the sound of the cascading water from the showerhead, and Blaze felt the blood surge through his entire body.

He released her lips, pressing his forehead against hers as he panted softly.

The woman before him had fair skin, now flushed a delicate pink from the hot water.

She was so beautiful that even her damp, dark hair was alluring. Her glistening eyes were powerfully magnetic.

A single glance from her seemed to be a coy seduction, a push and a pull all at once.

After washing Luna and wrapping her in a bathrobe, Blaze quickly rinsed the suds off his own body.
