When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 30: Don’t Be Afraid, Okay?
When Luna Axton and Blaze Fairchild rushed to the hospital, the door to Jenna Axton’s room was shut tight, the room within crowded with doctors and nurses.
Luna Axton stood at the entrance, peering through the small window in the door. All she could see was a sea of white; she couldn’t even make out her mother’s bed.
Panic seized her, and she tried to open the door, but it was locked from the inside. The handle wouldn’t budge.
"Please let me in." Luna Axton looked at the male doctor by the door, her eyes welling with tears as she pleaded, "I need to be with my mother."
"I’m sorry, I understand how you feel, but family members cannot be present while doctors are performing an emergency procedure."
The last time her mother had an emergency, she’d been at her part-time job and only arrived after it was over.
Thankfully, her mother had pulled through.
This time, a profound sense of panic gripped her, as if something was about to tear her mother away from her.
Luna Axton shook her head. "No, my mother is all I have. She’s all I have! I have to be with her."
The doctor stared straight ahead, his expression resolute.
Luna Axton tugged on Blaze Fairchild’s sleeve, desperate for help. "Can you make him open the door? Please? I can’t lose my mother. I can’t live without her."
Blaze stared at her red-rimmed eyes, his heart clenching. He wrapped a long arm around her, pulling her into his embrace. "Calm down. Let’s hear what the doctors have to say, okay?"
His voice was deep, not exactly stern, but it softened when he asked, "okay?" It was a gentle sound.
Her vision blurred by tears, Luna pleaded in a choked voice, "Blaze Fairchild, let me go. I want my mother."
Blaze’s arm tightened, holding her firmly against him. "Don’t be afraid, okay? I promise, your mother will be fine."
His voice was so gentle that it broke through her panic, and she could only press her face into his chest and weep quietly.
Once he had soothed Luna’s emotions, Blaze’s cold, sharp eyes swept over the assembled staff. "I’ll need an explanation."
The department head, who was already on edge, felt his scalp tingle and his knees go weak when he heard Blaze’s words.
’The patient was about to be discharged. Why the sudden emergency procedure?’
’He didn’t have a clue!’
The department head closed his eyes, avoiding Blaze’s murderous gaze, and resignedly passed the buck. "We’ll only know the specifics once the doctors come out."
’So he doesn’t know anything.’
Blaze decided not to waste any more time on him and began solving the problem his own way.
"Caleb, watch the doctors’ office. From this moment on, no one touches any of the doctors’ or nurses’ computers."
The department head opened his mouth to object, but one look from Blaze sent him shrinking back in fear.
He could only bow his head and silently pray that his department’s doctors and nurses had filled out all the case files and nursing charts perfectly, leaving nothing for Blaze Fairchild to seize upon.
"Kyle Joyce, drive to the Frost Family residence."
As Luna Axton heard Blaze’s orders forbidding the staff from using their computers, her sobs subsided.
’That’s right. Mom’s surgery was a success.’
’Under the care of the staff and Mrs. Creed, she was recovering very well.’
’Mrs. Creed had even started getting Crimson Hall ready for her return.’
’Everyone was preparing for her to be discharged. Why would she suddenly need emergency medical intervention?’
’Something must have gone wrong.’
Luna looked up, her gaze landing on Blaze’s firm, sharp jawline.
’So this is how you handle things, so directly.’
Sensing her gaze, Blaze glanced down and saw she had grown quiet and still.
He didn’t let go, however, keeping her in his embrace as he pulled out his phone with one hand and made a call.
Luna noticed the name on the phone screen: Mason Frost.
’Blaze actually has Mason Frost’s contact information.’
’If a miracle worker like Mason Frost gets involved, Mom will definitely be okay.’
’Blaze really is a man of his word.’
She remained perfectly still, listening quietly as Blaze made the call.
The phone rang several times before the call was answered.
"Blaze, what is it?"
"Uncle Mason, I have a difficult situation on my hands and I need your help. It’s a liver condition, your specialty."
"I’m abroad, but I’ll have Ethan go over. He’s at home. I can guide him. There won’t be any problems."
Mason Frost was confident in the heir who had been groomed with the full resources of the Frost Family.
"Okay, I’ll call Ethan."
"I’ll call him. For now, take photos of the medical reports and send them to me."
"Thank you, Uncle Mason."
Her heart filled with gratitude that Blaze was going to such lengths to find help for her mother.
Blaze hung up and handed the phone to Luna. "Make yourself useful."
"Okay." Luna understood. Blaze knew she’d overheard the call and was telling her to go photograph her mother’s various medical reports.
Watching Luna and Caleb enter the doctors’ office, Blaze turned to the bodyguard beside him. "Pull the surveillance footage from the last few days. See if anyone suspicious has been here."
The bodyguard nodded and left to carry out the order.
He knew that Rosalind Fairchild had paid to have Luna Axton investigated.
Caleb had been by Luna’s side constantly, giving Rosalind no openings, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t try to get to her through Jenna Axton.
The commotion they were causing was considerable, especially with Blaze’s arrival.
Hospital administrators began to arrive one after another, all of them looking half-asleep.
But the moment they stood before Blaze Fairchild, they all snapped to attention, not daring to show any sign of carelessness.
Luna sent all the reports, then earnestly typed out a message: Thank you.
But then she remembered this person was Blaze’s contact, and she didn’t have his permission to send a personal message, so she deleted it, one character at a time.
She took the opportunity to review her mother’s daily medication chart. The cursor finally stopped on the doctor’s order for a potassium chloride injection.
The precautions for administering potassium were a major topic on medical exams—something every healthcare professional was supposed to have drilled into their heads.
Luna’s expression was calm as she left the office and returned the phone to Blaze. "They’re sent."
"Find anything?"
Luna froze. She hadn’t expected him to ask her so directly.
"What? You’re a medical student. Don’t you have any thoughts on the matter?"
"My mother’s last IV drip today was potassium chloride. I wonder, did the doctors run a point-of-care blood gas analysis when they started the emergency procedure?"
Luna boldly stated her suspicion.
"If they did, and her serum potassium level is over 5.5, that would confirm she has hyperkalemia."
Realizing that Luna also had medical knowledge and wasn’t a family member who could be easily fobbed off, the department head immediately told the doctor at the door to go inside and ask about the situation.
With Blaze Fairchild blocking the doorway, all he could do was pray they could save Jenna Axton.
’This was Blaze Fairchild they were dealing with.’
’Right now, cooperation was their only option.’
A short while later, the doctor who had gone inside emerged holding a small blood gas report slip.
Luna took it and examined it closely. The potassium level was 5.6—clearly high.
When she saw the time stamp, Luna grew even angrier, her eyes flashing. "This was just run! Where are the previous results?"
The department head and the other administrators were in turmoil. Cold sweat broke out on their foreheads. They exchanged a look, none of them daring to speak, retreating into their shells like turtles.
Under Blaze’s scrutinizing gaze, the doctor who had brought the report answered honestly, "We’ve already been treating her for hyperkalemia. This is the result of the fourth test."
Luna’s eyes stung, unable to hold back her tears. She choked out, "My mother’s life wasn’t in danger because of her cirrhosis! It was because of your medication error! You gave her potassium supplements without monitoring her blood levels, and you administered a potassium drip at night! You..."
Thinking of her mother’s suffering, she was so overcome with anger that she had to stop to catch her breath.
"I will not let this go."
Seeing her breathing becoming ragged, Blaze raised a hand and gently patted her on the back, helping her catch her breath.
"Sir, Young Master Frost is here."
Kyle Joyce was approaching at a brisk pace with Ethan Frost in tow.
