Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Silk Banner

Luna held her phone. "He’s asking where I am."

Jenna Axton said nothing, just watched her daughter with a contented smile.

’Isn’t this stage of a relationship the most thrilling part? A single glance from him can make your heart flutter, pounding in your chest.’

She didn’t say anything out loud or offer any advice, choosing instead to let her daughter savor the feeling on her own.

Luna had no idea what her mother was thinking. Her full attention was on replying to Blaze’s message.

"I’m at my mom’s place."

Blaze: "When are you coming back?"

Luna stared at her phone, mulling over his words.

’Did Blaze go back to Lakeside Manor? Shouldn’t he be at the hospital with Grandpa?’

Luna: "Are you back? I’ve already settled in for the night at my mom’s."

It wasn’t often she got to sleep over with her mom, and she didn’t want to go back to Lakeside Manor.

Besides, it was so cold outside, she didn’t feel like going out.

She was just trying to figure out how to tell him she didn’t want to go back when his reply came.

"Go to sleep. Good night."

This time, Luna was more careful. Instead of lazily sending a sticker, she typed out a two-word reply: ’Good night’.

On the second floor of Lakeside Manor.

Blaze gazed at the empty room and the neatly made bed, a hollow feeling spreading through his chest.

He had thought he would come home to a good night’s sleep holding her, but instead, Luna was at Crimson Hall.

’Still, she’s only twenty-two. It’s normal for her to be a little attached to her mom.’

Blaze got up, took his bathrobe, and went to take a shower.

’Good thing the sheets haven’t been changed in a couple of days. The bed still smells like her; I should be able to sleep well.’

The next day, Luna woke up.

She stretched luxuriously. Her mother was already out of bed.

The weather was nice today, and the sun was out.

Sunlight streamed into the room, lifting her spirits.

She lingered in bed, faintly hearing her mother and Mrs. Creed chatting, punctuated by the sounds of things being moved.

It was the twenty-eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, a day for putting up decorations.

Today was for cleaning the house and putting up New Year’s prints, couplets, and paper-cut window decorations.

And the most important thing: Grandpa Fairchild was being discharged from the hospital today.

Luna lay in bed for a little while longer, running through the day’s tasks in her head before getting up.

’Oh, right. And Blaze.’

She suddenly remembered their chat before bed last night.

’Is Blaze at Lakeside Manor, or has he already gone to the hospital?’

’What time is it?’

She sat up and checked her phone. It was already 9:30.

When her mom was hospitalized, Blaze had run around everywhere, sparing no expense or effort.

Now that Grandpa Fairchild was in the hospital, she hadn’t stayed with him, and she already felt a little guilty about it.

She had to be there today when Grandpa Fairchild was discharged.

"Mrs. Creed, is Blaze still at Lakeside Manor?" Luna asked as she came out.

Jenna Axton was holding a brush, writing couplets.

Mrs. Creed was holding scissors and paper, cutting window decorations.

Hearing her voice, they both looked over.

"The Young Master woke up at six this morning and went to the hospital," Mrs. Creed said.

’So early.’

She ruffled her short hair to wake herself up completely. "Mom, I’m going to the hospital first to pick up Grandpa Fairchild."

"Young Madam, have something to eat first."

"Okay, I’ll find something myself. You carry on with what you’re doing."

Luna, wrapped in a fluffy bathrobe, walked back to Lakeside Manor. There were many servants along the way.

Some were weeding, some were sweeping, some were hanging lanterns—a lively and festive scene.

When people saw her, they all greeted her, "Good morning, Young Madam. Good morning, Young Madam."

Beaming, she returned each greeting and quickened her pace.

’How was I supposed to know every servant in the Fairchild Estate would be out and about today?’

Luna was kicking herself.

’Being greeted all the way while wearing this cute, childish bathrobe... so much for my image!’

But time was waiting for no one. She had to hurry up, get washed and dressed, and then go to the hospital to pick up Grandpa Fairchild.

Otherwise, Blaze would be all alone, having to pack and handle the discharge procedures. He’d be overwhelmed.

She changed her clothes, grabbed some snacks from the pantry downstairs, filled a thermos with water, and headed out.

The bustling streets of Valoria were filled with a celebratory atmosphere welcoming the New Year.

The car drove smoothly toward the hospital. Luna sat in the back, her cheeks puffed out as she chewed and chewed.

The hospital was much quieter than usual; most people had been discharged.

Everyone just wanted to welcome the new year safely, without pain or disaster.

She arrived at the cardiology department where her grandfather had been staying.

The moment Luna stepped out of the elevator, she saw a familiar figure.

Her hands, hanging by her sides, clenched into fists.

The good mood she’d had all morning vanished in an instant.

At the nurses’ station, Yvonne Rhodes was posing for a photo with Grandpa Fairchild’s attending physician.

Between them, they held a red silk banner.

On it was written:

Miraculous Hands That Restore Life, A Master Healer in Our Time.

Luna’s displeased gaze then fell upon the dedication: ’Respectfully presented by the entire Julian Fairchild family.’

’The entire Julian Fairchild family... that doesn’t include me, Luna Axton.’

’Right?’

"Young Madam, the Young Master definitely doesn’t know about this," Caleb advised urgently. "If he knew, she wouldn’t even have the chance to get near this place."

Everyone at the Fairchild Estate, from top to bottom, knew how delusional that wicked woman Yvonne Rhodes was.

Luna didn’t speak, just stared blankly.

Her gaze was so intense that Yvonne noticed her too.

Yvonne winked at her, then curled her lip in a sneer before turning back to the doctor beside her to thank him warmly.

"Thank you all for taking such good care of Grandpa. Ian and I have ordered some drinks for everyone; they’ll be delivered shortly. Thank you, and Happy New Year."

The doctor was pleased. "Thank you, Mrs. Fairchild."

Yvonne didn’t deny it, grinning from ear to ear. "It’s just a small token of our appreciation. No need to thank us."

Luna froze on the spot. ’Drinks ordered together with Blaze.’

’Blaze knew Yvonne was here!’

Luna turned and left angrily, striding quickly toward the elevators.

The Young Madam was pregnant, so Caleb didn’t dare block her path, only trying his best to soothe her.

"Young Madam, don’t listen to her! She saw us. She must have said that on purpose for us to hear."

’Those doctors and nurses were so familiar with Yvonne; they obviously hadn’t just met.’

’I miss one day at the hospital, just yesterday, and Yvonne is already this desperate.’

’I shouldn’t have rushed over so eagerly without calling first, only to end up in such a terrible mood.’

Luna said nothing, just stared at the floor indicator, wishing the elevator would hurry up so she could get out of there.

DING. The elevator arrived.

The elevator doors opened. Blaze was standing inside, holding some papers, a blank expression on his face.

The moment he saw Luna standing at the entrance, a smile instantly lit up his face.

"What are you doing here?" Blaze strode toward her on his long legs, reaching out to wrap an arm around her waist.

Luna didn’t say a word, just stubbornly walked into the elevator.

Blaze looked at his empty hand, but the smile remained on his lips, not understanding. "What’s wrong?"

"I’m going back first," she said, her voice muffled. Even if Blaze didn’t understand why, he could tell she was angry.

"Wait for me. We’ll pick up Grandpa and go home together."

Luna thought of Yvonne in the hospital room and didn’t want to go. "I’ll wait for you downstairs."

Blaze coaxed her softly, "Be good. I don’t want to be apart from you."

’Didn’t he come here so early this morning precisely so he could finish the discharge paperwork sooner and get home to be with her?’

’Now that Luna was here, she was trying to run away. He wouldn’t allow it.’

Luna subtly shifted a step to the side, putting distance between herself and Blaze.

Blaze noticed her small movement. His smile unwavering, he matched her step and moved to the side as well, successfully wrapping his arm around her waist as he’d wanted, not letting her escape.

Luna struggled a little, but Blaze wouldn’t let go.

She lifted her chin slightly. ’Fine. For the sake of Blaze’s handsome smile, I’ll go.’

With his hand on her waist, Blaze led her down the corridor, stopping in front of the nurses’ station.

There, the male doctor was standing on a stool while two nurses directed him as he hung the silk banner.

"Julian Fairchild’s discharge papers are all processed," Blaze announced, getting his attention.
