Chapter 136: Collab... Off!

Inside the room, the doctor, who was a middle-aged man with glasses and a stethoscope around his neck, wiped his brow and stood up from beside the old man, who was now lying on a makeshift stretcher. He sighed heavily, the sound cutting through the tension.

"Alright, he’s stable for now," he said, taking the stethoscope from his neck. "But he needs blood since he has already lost too much from the internal issue. His type is rare: AB negative. Is there a family member here who can donate? A child or perhaps... A grandchild?"

Bianca and Sofia suddenly found the floor very interesting. Bianca shifted her weight, pretending to check her nails.

"Uh, where’s Mom? Isn’t she home yet?"

Sofia shook her head quickly.

"No, she left for that event with her friends this morning. Remember? The charity thing."

Bianca nodded vigorously. "Yeah, exactly. She’s not here. What about Aunt Clara? Or Cousin Mike? Shouldn’t we call them to help grandpa?"

Sofia shrugged. "They’re all out of town. They aren’t back yet," she turned to the doctor and let out a small cough. "Doctor, as you can see, I’m super weak and have no blood of my own. So... Can’t we wait for Mom to get back?"

The doctor sighed again, rubbing his temples.

"We don’t have time for that. If we don’t transfuse soon, his condition could worsen. We’ll have to take him to the hospital."

The guards immediately protested.

"No way. The master doesn’t go to hospitals... instead, the hospital comes to him. Set it up in his room. You’re his personal doctor, do something."

The doctor nodded, understanding the protocol for a family like the Corleones. Of course, the Corleones owned the hospital where he works. He pulled out his phone and made a quick call.

"Ah... yes! This is Dr Ramirez. I’d like it if you could send a team to the Corleone estate immediately. Bring the transfusion equipment, monitors, and everything for an in-home setup. And hurry." He hung up and gestured to the guards. "Let’s move him to his bedroom. It’s more comfortable there."

The guards carefully lifted the old man onto the stretcher, wheeling him out of the study. One of them grabbed Elias by the arm, dragging him along. "You too, kid. You’re not cleared yet until the master is stable."

Elias stumbled a bit, but didn’t resist; his mind was on the most important thing...

"Wait, why me? But I didn’t..."

"Quiet," the guard growled. "Don’t say a word."

Vera and Vale followed closely, with Sofia and Bianca trailing behind. "This is getting out of hand," Vale whispered to Vera. "Now they’re moving him like he’s a criminal? And he’s still stuck."

Vera nodded, her phone in hand. "If this goes on much longer, I’m texting Viktor. Do not argue with me."

"Oh, sure I won’t. I can’t bear to watch this anymore while those two aren’t even helping matters," Vale frowned.

.

In the old man’s spacious bedroom that was filled with antique furniture, a massive four-poster bed, and windows overlooking the gardens... the team set up quickly as the hospital staff arrived in a flurry of activity. Machines beeped, IV lines were hooked up, and the doctor oversaw everything. "We need that blood now. His type is super rare. It’s AB negative with some specific antigens. Finding a match outside the family could take hours."

Elias, still held by the guard in the corner of the room, perked up. He’d heard his own blood type during a routine checkup years ago.

"I... I have AB negative. It’s the same as him."

The doctor turned, surprised. "You? Kid, are you sure?"

Elias nodded. "I’m not a kid but yeah, I’m sure." He paused and turned to the guard who was holding his arm. "If I donate, will you let me go? I just want to get out of here."

The guards looked at each other, then at the doctor. One nodded slowly. "If it saves the master... fine. We’ll let you go. But we will test first."

The doctor agreed, and a nurse quickly drew a sample from Elias’s arm. They ran it through a portable analyser, and within minutes, the results beeped positive. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"It’s a match. Perfect. We don’t have to search anymore."

Elias was led to a chair, his sleeve rolled up. They hooked him up to the transfusion line, a tube connecting him directly to the old man. Blood began to flow. It was a slow but steady stream. Elias winced at the pinch but stayed still. It was his first time doing this.

Vera, who had been allowed into the room now that things were calmer, rushed to his side.

"Elias, are you sure about this? Donating blood to a stranger? You know you don’t have to."

Elias smiled weakly, pressing a hand to the spot where the needle was.

"It’s fine. As long as that old man is stable and we leave here early. I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing."

Vale’s eyes welled up with tears, her voice choking.

"Why are you doing this? He’s not even your family. You could get weak or something. This is too much."

Elias shrugged, though his face was paling slightly from the draw.

"I don’t know... I just feel like I have to. Being around that grandpa... it feels weird. Familiar, almost. Maybe because I’ve been around Gerald too much."

Vale and Vera exchanged glances with each other and laughed.

"You’re just too nice, Elias. Our brother doesn’t deserve you. Come and work with us."

"I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that," Elias said and they laughed again before the nurses warned them to be quiet.

.

As the transfusion continued, Elias closed his eyes, trying to relax after the girls sat at the corner of the room. But suddenly, images flashed in his mind... an old man laughing, a child bouncing on his lap, the sound of joyful giggles echoing. It was vivid, like a memory, but not his own. Or was it?

He snapped his eyes open, blinking repeatedly. "What was that?" he muttered to himself, shaking his head. "Am I seeing things because of the blood draw? Or...?"

Vera noticed his confusion. "Elias? You okay? You look spaced out."

"Yeah, just... tired, I guess," he replied, not wanting to worry them more.

After about twenty minutes, the nurse checked the levels and nodded. "That’s enough. He’s stabilising." She removed the needle, pressing a cotton ball to Elias’s arm. "You can go now, young man. Thanks for your help."

The guard released his grip, stepping back. "Alright, kid. You’re free. I hope next time, you won’t wander into a forbidden room."

"Oh don’t worry, I won’t come here again. There’s no need for me to."

Elias stood up shakily, pressing the cotton to his arm. As he walked out the door, Vera and Vale enveloped him in a tight hug, their arms wrapping around him like a shield.

"Oh, Elias, we were so scared," Vera said, her voice muffled against his shoulder.

Vale pulled back, wiping her eyes. "Don’t ever wander off like that again. I know it’s Bianca’s fault."

"I’m fine now and it’s nobody’s fault, Vale."

Bianca, standing awkwardly nearby, gave a small wave. "Hey, uh, glad you’re okay."

Elias glanced at her but ignored the greeting, still upset about being left alone. He turned to Sofia instead.

"Is the shooting still going on? Or...?"

Sofia shrugged casually, leaning against the wall. "Why not? Grandpa’s stable now, right? We can head back to the kitchen."

Vera stared at her in disbelief. "Your grandfather’s life was on the line, and you’re thinking about a video?"

Sofia rolled her eyes. "I don’t care. He’s old anyway. He’ll probably die before the year ends. Might as well get on with things."

Vale’s mouth dropped open. "That is so mean. How can you say that about your own grandpa?"

Bianca chimed in, her tone defensive.

"Hey, stay out of our family business. You don’t know how things work here."

Vale smirked, crossing her arms. "Fine, we will. But the shooting’s over. We’re done here."

Vera nodded firmly, linking her arm with Elias’s. "Yeah. Let’s go. Do we really need to shoot with them?" They supported Elias as they navigated back downstairs, the fortress’s confusing layout making the walk feel endless. Elias leaned on them a bit, still lightheaded from the donation.

Behind them, Bianca yelled,

"Fine! Leave! But don’t come crying to us later when you regret missing this collab!"

Vale called back without turning.

"You’ll regret what you just said today. Karma’s a thing."

As they reached the foyer, Sofia and Bianca watched from the top of the stairs, bursting into laughter once the group was out of earshot.

"Too bad the shooting didn’t hold," Sofia said, nudging her sister. "I wanted to show off my skills in the kitchen and probably act like I know what I’m doing."

Bianca grinned. "Don’t worry about it. We can call another channel and do a collab with them. We’ll make it bigger and better. Then the V Chefs will regret turning us down."

Sofia’s eyes lit up. "Oh! I like that idea. I can’t wait to see their faces when our video blows up without them."

They high-fived, their laughter echoing down the hall. But as they turned back toward their grandfather’s room, a subtle unease lingered.

"Let’s leave here... I feel so uncomfortable being in his room."

"Yeah, me too."
