Chapter Thirty: Counterstrike

Xiang Kun had never undergone any formal combat training, so he naturally lacked a professional fighter’s footwork and defensive maneuvers.

But his reaction speed, strength and agility were all top-notch. The latter two were superb, though not surpassing the limits of ordinary people by much. But the former, due to his extremely heightened sense of perception, far exceeded what would be expected of a normal person.

As soon as the training instructor made a move, Xiang Kun could discern the direction of the attack, calmly dodging. His footwork, his movements, they were all subconscious and appeared very natural.

While he may not have the fighting technique’s footwork like sidestepping, stepping-in, or backstepping, he could easily dodge attacks.

However, after evading a few attacks, Xiang Kun suddenly stood still, protecting his head with his arms, and squeezing his ribs with his elbows, allowing the coach’s fists to land on his body.

Neither dodging nor counterattacking, Xiang Kun intentionally wanted to endure the opponent’s punches and kicks.

“Bang! Bang! Bang! Thwack!

The gloved fist fell on Xiang Kun’s arms and abdomens, and the whip-like kicks landed on his thighs, making a loud sound, the strikes were full force.

After hitting Xiang Kun more than a few times, the instructor momentarily paused, seemingly wanting to watch whether Xiang Kun could endure it. The coach himself was slightly puzzled. Even his previous sparring partners, who trained in Sanda, would wince in pain after even a few of his solid kicks to their thighs. And continuous attacks like these had also started to deplete his

energy.

Surprisingly, Xiang Kun merely gestured with his wrist for him to continue.

After being hit a few more times by the coach, Xiang Kun shockingly let down his raised arms and took multiple blows to his wait. He even faced a straight punch with his face.

After taking that punch, Xiang Kun stepped back two paces, leaning on the rope, opening his mouth to stretch his jaw and neck. Even for him, taking a punch head-on was uncomfortable. He could feel blood flowing from the inside of his mouth, where his skin had been cut.

Following the punch he threw, the coach paused, as he didn’t expect to land it.

He was aware of the force he had put behind his own punch, and with Xiang Kun not wearing any protective gear, he was afraid he might seriously injure him.

Another older coach who had been refereeing came to stand between the two, signaling the end of the spar, and then proceeded to check on Xiang Kun.

The young students watching from the fringes of the boxing gym applauded the young coach. Indeed, from their perspective, the newcomer seemed to have been beaten into submission throughout the whole spar, with no opportunity to counterstrike, making him seem quite unintelligent.

Xiang Kun waved to the older coach to assure him he was alright and promptly left the gym.

His brief “exchange” with the coach, although he didn’t throw a single punch, and seemed to have been being beat up the entire time, had yielded quite a bit of insight.

He had made up his mind not to attend such boxing gyms to learn striking techniques.

Because he realized that whether it’s boxing, Sanda, Thai Boxing, or other striking techniques, these physical combat systems that have been developed over many years are all built upon the physical capabilities of ordinary human beings. This applies not only to strength and agility, but also to their reactions and physical weaknesses.

Xiang Kun now greatly differs from the average person, and in the foreseeable future, these differences will only become more pronounced. Techniques applicable to ordinary people might not be the best method for him, and could instead be a massive detour.

Of course, this does not mean that he doesn’t need to practice fighting techniques. He does need fighting techniques, but they need to be tailor-made to match his abilities, and in this kind of boxing gym, he can’t freely demonstrate his physical fitness and abilities, nor can he expect others to understand him and assist him in modifying his combat techniques.

Just like before, he will have to depend on himself. freewe(b)novel.com

The Sanda coach was also somewhat surprised when he saw Xiang Kun.

Their small group knew Tang Baona and Yang Zhen’er because the coach was friends with Coach Shen from the gym upstairs. Coach Shen’s girlfriend was a yoga instructor and was acquainted with Tang Bao Na and Yang Zhen’er. They had a WeChat group where they would arrange outdoor activities like hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, etc. together.

As for the lovely and single Tang Baona, the single guys in the group all liked her to some extent. But the outwardly vibrant Tang Baona would keep these guys miles away the minute they hinted at more than just friendship.

Upon hearing that Tang Baona was going to bring a man this time and that he was supposedly her potential romantic interest, the males in the group all felt a sense of rivalry, and planned to teach him a lesson. The young Sanda coach led the pack.

But when they saw the man…

It was the same Xiang Kun they had sparred with in the boxing gym the day before.

Unlike the audience members who had watched the spar the day before, who thought Xiang Kun had been pounded without fighting back, he realized he was not the winner.

The coach who had acted as the referee, who was actually the owner of the boxing gym, had privately told him after Xiang Kun left that, although Xiang Kun might not have had formal boxing training, he certainly would not stand a chance against Xiang Kun. He pointed out that their ability to take a punch was not on the same level, and his fists could hardly pose a threat to Xiang Kun.

As for Xiang Kun, although he hadn’t thrown a single punch in the spar, he had indeed knocked out the coach with a single punch because he wanted to show off the previous day. After calming down and reflecting on it, the coach realized the older coach wasn’t wrong. At the beginning of the spar when Xiang Kun was dodging, the coach couldn’t land a hit despite several attempts. Only when Xiang Kun stood still did he manage to land a punch. In the end, he was able to hit Xiang Kun in the face because he intentionally didn’t defend himself. It was obvious that Xiang Kun had deliberately let him do that to test his ability.

So, upon meeting Xiang Kun again today, he didn’t think of sparring with him to determine a victor. There was a clear difference in their abilities, and they weren’t on the same level. Provoking a fight would just result in his own humiliation.

So, he just nodded at Xiang Kun as a greeting and walked to the side.

Coach Shen from the gym also cheerfully came over to say hello. They had quickly become acquainted over the past few days at the gym.

After seeing the Sanda coach who had been eager to spar with Xiang Kun suddenly back off, the other men curiously asked him why. The Sanda coach, however, didn’t go into the specific details of the fight but merely told them that Xiang Kun could beat him up easily. On top of that, when Coach Shen informed them that the Big Bull who broke records in bench press, squats, and deadlifts was the same Baldy, they immediately saw him in a new light.

Xiang Kun, of course, was unaware of the others’ thoughts. He was Indeed surprised to run into Coach Shen and the Sanda coach he had fought with just yesterday, but he didn’t think much of it, and certainly didn’t consider having another fight with the Sanda coach.

Ever since getting out of the car, his attention had been engrossed by the forest.

He had initially been reluctant to participate in this outing because his time was tight. According to his previous patterns, he figured he would feel the urge to consume blood again tomorrow. He needed to train as much as possible before then to influence the direction of his body’s mutation and evolution.

But once he got here, he unexpectedly found himself feeling as though he was stepping out into the open after being cooped up in his room for too long. His senses seemed to expand exponentially, even though they were somewhat suppressed during the daytime..
