Using my Codex, we managed to track down the location of that 'funhouse' where the hustle request was located.

The situation there had already escalated to a firefight as one group was using the alleys and stores outside the casino as cover to shoot at the people that were inside the building.

It took me a while to know which side was which since all of them looked like bandits to me with how they were dressed.

I only realised who was who from the conversations I overheard and it seems like the people outside the building were the Mercs and the pirates had taken cover inside the building itself.

"This isn't ideal…" I muttered, looking at the fire fight in front of us.

Amber nodded, "These Mercs must be idiots… Or at least an idiot came here and forced these guys to take cover inside the building. Great…"

It certainly isn't ideal because if the Mercs are all outside, the pirates don't have a way to escape and a cornered rat would fight back as hard as it can to survive.

If they were left outside instead, they might have just ran away instead of staying inside that building and their current position does not make it ideal for us at all.

At least for now, it seems like the Mercs outside were willing to work together. I would have thought for sure that they would be shooting at each other to get the full payment from this job so that they don't need to share the reward.

"Is there a side entrance or a backdoor that we can use to get in there?" I asked.

"We can go and take a look I suppose?" Amber suggested.

I nodded at her and we proceeded towards the back of the building to see if there was another way into the building.

We made sure to stay out of sight from both the Mercs and the pirates as we made a large detour to head around the building.

We don't even need to try to be sneaky since the sound of battle raging in front of that casino hid any sound we could make anyway.

We moved through the alley between two buildings a short distance away and I realised that the people that were in those buildings didn't even care that there was a shootout happening just a few metres away from them.

Heck, one of them was a bar and the patrons were even calmly drinking their beers while watching the shootout like it was some kind of show.

This place really sucks that much huh?

No one paid us any mind as we moved to the back of the buildings to make our way to the area behind the casino.

Even though it was still a distance away, I could already see a door at the back which meant that there was indeed a back entrance.

All of us pulled out our weapons and approached the door, just in case there was someone there laying in wait, be it one of those pirates or another Merc.

Thankfully, we didn't need to worry that much because Mara was there to help us scan the surroundings and she nodded to show the coast was clear.

We stacked against the door with Amber taking point on the side where the door would start opening from while I took the other side.

I shared a look with her and she nodded, my hand going to the console to open the door before Mara caught my wrist.

I turned to her and she was frowning at the door, "There's some people behind it… They're trying to get it to open but they can't. One of them is thinking about getting a staff member here to unlock the door."

That means there's pirates behind the door right now.

I guess they were already looking for a way out from their situation but this locked door was preventing them from running away.

I'm more surprised that the Mercs at the front didn't even think about the possibility that the pirates were trying to slip out from a back door.

Then again… They were the ones who caused this to happen in the first place so I guess expecting anything from them was foolish.

Seeing that we couldn't hear any sounds despite being so close to the door, they must have soundproofed it quite considerably so I don't think we need to worry about being overheard.

Then again, with the sound of the gunshots firing at the front, it shouldn't be an issue anyway.

"Should we clear them out or just grab and go?" I asked.

Amber made a face, "If you want to also fight the Mercs who might want the reward for themselves, we can clear them out. But if not… We might as well just grab whoever is behind that door and just run for it."

I can go with that.

I nodded, "We'll just grab whoever is behind and start interrogating. Can I leave that to you?"

Amber grinned and gave me a thumbs up, prompting me to whip out my Codex to start hacking the door.

It only took me less than five seconds before the hack was complete and I gave Amber a look to prep her before opening the door.

The door slid open to reveal three guys behind it, one of them fiddling with the console on the other side of the door, one watching him fiddle with it and the last one watching the interior of the building to cover them.

"All of them," Mara informed Amber, giving her the confirmation that all three were pirates.

Amber didn't hesitate as she dove in and smacked the two men closest to the door with the back of her pistol, knocking them out instantly.

She then leapt towards the last guy who was still in the middle of turning and delivered and elbow strike to his chin which also knocked him out instantly.

I was expecting her to just pull them out with her telekinesis until I realised the building probably had cameras so she wasn't going to do anything that might out her as a Psionic.

Although… I'm pretty sure that she also used her Psionic powers to enhance her attacks earlier to knock them out but I guess that can be explained away with combat implants.

I swivelled in with my shotgun to check that the coast was clear and it seems like these three were the only ones around so we didn't need to worry about tipping the pirates at the front off about this scuffle at the back.

Amber and Mara then proceeded to drag two of them out through the door while Ries and myself kept watch.

The two of them dumped the unconscious pirates a short distance away in the alley before Mara returned to drag the last guy out, prompting Ries and I to retreat.

Of course, I didn't forget to lock the door again before following them to the unconscious pirates.

Those Mercs at the front can deal with the remaining pirates themselves.

If this was the past me, I would have definitely just tried to clear out the pirates myself but since we're not desperate for money anyway… This isn't worth the potential trouble it might bring later.

I joined the rest of the girls and Ries seemed to be fiddling with her personal terminal before nodding, "There doesn't seem to be any surveillance coverage here. We're clear."

Oh wow, she can do that? That's cool.

Amber and Mara then turned back to unconscious pirates before my blonde haired lover went to step on one of them, waking them up with a start.

"Arrghhh!! Wha… What?!"

Amber didn't let up her foot and growled at him, "Who is your leader?"

The guy was still a little out of sorts and could only mumble out, "Leader? What? Who are you?"

Amber didn't seem bothered that he didn't answer and just moved to the next question, "Where is your hideout?"

"Hideout? Why… Ahhh! You think I'll tell you?!"

Amber then pointed her pistol at him and I thought she was going to threaten him with it when she just simply fired a round through his head, killing him.

What the fuck?! I thought we were supposed to be interrogating him, Amber?!

She then moved on to the next guy and stepped on him as well to wake him up.

"How many people are in your hideout?"

"Ahhh!! What… What's going on?!"

"Are there any traps in the hideout?"

"Ahhh!! Fuck you! You're a Merc aren't you?! You think I'll--"

Amber shot him in the head and killed him as well before moving to the last guy to do the exact same thing.

"Where does your leader keep his secret item?"

"What the fuck?! Who are you?!"

"Are there any valuables in the hideout?"

"Ahhhh!! Get off me!!"

She also finished off this guy with a bullet to the head while I just watched in confusion.

Mara then nodded at me, "Their leader is a guy named Conrad and it seems like he has quite a number of cybernetic implants. Their hideout is on the lowest floor in the corner with the entrance disguised as an illegal gambling den. There's about three hundred members but most of them are just thugs that they hired to maintain their turf and the actual crew only consist of about fifty people. There are automated turrets set up around the base and the 'secret item' is on the leader all the time. Also, they have quite a lot of Credits from their illegal activities stored in the leader's vaults."

Psionics are scary…
