The newly transformed monster grabbed onto the edge of the capsule and pulled itself out, its head swivelling to eye us menacingly.

It resembles a giant monitor lizard except that there was a mane around its neck which I realised was the black matter but reduced to individual hair-like strands.

Compared to the one we saw in the security room, this one was only about a quarter of the size so it was only just a little bit bigger than I was.

Err… Maybe it's friendly?

It opened its mouth and let out a roar that was loud enough that I instinctively reached up to cover my ears, only to realise I was still wearing my helmet so I ended up covering the sides of my helmet instead.

How did that roar even reach us in this environment? It's almost as if the roar… Was telepathically transmitted?

The monster then raised its arm and tried to slash at me, clearly indicating its hostility.

"Tera!!" Amber yelled out, yanking me back just in time to avoid the claw swipe from it.

Lea and Ries immediately levelled their weapons at it, obviously preparing to shoot at it

"Wait!" I called out, raising my hand. "Can we try talking to him? He might still be the boy and he's just lashing out because he thinks we're his tormentors!"

The girls hesitated and both Lea and Ries lowered their guns slightly

The lizard seemed to be confused by the action and it looked at us with a curious gaze.

Could it really be? The boy was still in there somewhere and only his body was transformed?

I went closer to the transformed boy and reached out my hand to him, hoping that he would understand that I meant it no harm.

He lifted his snout as though to sniff at my hand and I thought he understood that we were friendly so I got a little closer.

"We are not the people who kept you here," I tried to tell him through my suit's external speakers, though I'm not even sure if he even heard my words in this environment.

"We're here to save you. Do you understand me?" I asked.

The transformed boy moved a little closer to me and… Opened its jaws to try and take a bite at me.

In an instant, I was yanked back again by Amber and both Lea and Ries lifted their guns once more.

As though recognising the threat, the lizard monster let out another roar and this time we were blown back by an invisible force.

The monster tried to chase after us but the drones responded to the threat and opened fire at it.

Unlike the previous one where our bullets did not seem to be effective against the creature, the bullets from the drones managed to penetrate through the monster's skin and draw blood.

Seems like unlike the Psionic Chrysalis that was mostly made up of black matter and did not bleed, this one still had a circulatory system.

But well, it seems like either the boy was already lost and this was completely a monster now, or that--

"Captain," Mara called out, moving her hands to move several heavy looking boxes in the air. "I tried to read its thoughts but all I saw was its desire to consume us. There are no traces of the boy left."

Amber nodded, "I believe that's what they were referring to when they were talking about Psionic Degradation. It's probably the phenomenon of them losing their self and transforming into monsters."

I mean… I felt that might be a possibility too but I was hoping that it might just be limited to losing their physical bodies where they transform physically into the monsters but mentally they were still themselves…

I guess that was too optimistic, even for me…

"We'll have to kill it then…"

I pointed my own gun at it while it was being peppered by bullets from the drones, not allowing it to take a single step forward.

The girls also did the same and all of us shot our weapons at the same time, unleashing a hail of bullets at the monster.

My shotgun pellets blasted quite a big hole in its scales before amber's pistol pounds created an even bigger hole than before.

Lea's coilgun hit the monster next, piercing through the hole Amber and I had made to blast through on the other side of the neck.

Then, as if that wasn't enough, Ries's bullets expended the wound even bigger with the automatic fire from her bullets right before a giant container crashed into its face to send it flying back, courtesy of our resident Psionic.

The monster ended up getting smashed back to the capsule that contained a crystal and shattered the container.

The impact caused the crystal to fly out from the liquid that was still vaguely holding on to its form from the lack of gravity to spin through the air.

The crystal ended up floating to where the monster was and none of us even had time to stop it before the monster's snout lashed out and swallowed up the crystal with a single snap.

I felt something crash against me once more and I realised the invisible force came from the monster which pushed us back again.

When I looked up, the wounds on its body had disappeared and it even looked like it grew a little bigger as well.

The drones continued to fire at the monster but this time the bullets weren't as effective as it seemed to be bouncing off its scales instead of penetrating it.

Wait… Now I understand… It's not that the scales are hard, this monster is simply using its Psionic abilities to create an invisible protective layer over its body to protect itself from the bullets.

Well shit… So it has an invisible armour now huh… And it managed to do that after eating that crystal… Does that mean it will grow stronger the more crystal it eats?

In that case… Does that mean that the monster in the security room has ate multiple crystals? Was that room containing those crystals that the military stowed away and they stashed another kid in that room before it turned into a monster?

You know what? I don't want to know… Not like I have the luxury of thinking about other things right now since there was one monster currently flying towards me with its mouth wide open.

I quickly switched my next shot to a slug round and fired twice, the first shot only leaving several marks on its snout without doing damage but the slug round hit the monster in the head and flung him back.

Despite there being no penetration with that slug round, I think we could be able to work with this.

"Lea?" I called out, hoping that maybe her coilgun might have a better time with it.

"On it, Mistress," She answered, already taking aim at the monster before I had called her.

She pulled the trigger and the projectile shot towards the monster at a blinding speed, hitting it at the side of its head.

I thought that it might also bounce off but unexpectedly, it penetrated the skin of the monster.

The bad news was that it did not go all the way and it was only a surface wound, but at least it was still a wound nevertheless.

The monster let out another roar that all of us could hear before trying to lunge at us again.

I lifted up my shotgun and fired once again, blasting it in its face to kill its momentum and push it back.

Mara also joined me by throwing another crate at it, smacking it in its abdomen and launching it towards the back of the room.

It hit the wall hard enough to leave an indent in it and Lea lined up her gun to prepare to fire another shot.

Hopefully, with the monster still stuck in the wall, she would be able to kill it with another shot through the head or even the heart.

But before Lea could even pull her trigger, the wall behind the monster suddenly exploded outwards, sending debris flying everywhere.

We managed to dodge out of the way from those broken pieces of wall and we quickly turned back to see what caused the explosion.

The moment I laid eyes on it, I realised that we really needed to run now.

It was the monster from the security room who seemed to have managed to escape from its confinement and rushed all the way up here before breaking into the research lab through the wall.

And it also looks like it was here because of the transformed boy because it had snatched it up in its mouth and was holding it up in the air.

The transformed boy was struggling in its jaws until the bigger monster bit down, completely biting through the smaller monster's body and separating it into half, leaving a trail of blood that floated in the air around it.

Damn it… So it actually got out after all…
