What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?-Chapter 70: Another Deep Chasm
"I’m guessing my buff also got stronger?" I mused, referring to the purple smoke.
Ava looked at me with a complicated expression, "I believe while that is true... It feels like my mana is more potent as well, Young God."
She then narrowed her eyes at me and I realised what she was insinuating.
She’s claiming that our intimate session last night made her stronger as well.
Really? Does it really work like that? I thought she used mana and we were exchanging life energy...
Then again... If you consider the fact that I became stronger from it, and the technique was supposed to elevate the prowess of both parties to begin with... It’s not that big of a stretch to think so.
Additionally, wasn’t there also something about the Guardians becoming stronger the more intimate they are with the Mortal God they serve? This might also be the effect of it.
Hmm? Wait a minute...
I summoned my jade book and let it flip to the page that had Ava on it.
The book flipped open and it quickly stopped at the page that I was looking for, revealing Ava dressed in her mage robes and pointing her staff to the side.
I almost missed it because her robes and her oversized hat were white in colour so I didn’t think there was anything different about it at first until I realised that her robes and hat were now coloured in.
The only reason why I even noticed was because around the band of the hat was a purple sash and I noticed the flash of purple at one part of the picture that wasn’t there before.
While the picture was still mostly uncoloured, there were now places that had splashes of colour here and there which was obvious that it was due to our intimate session which brought about this change.
Does that mean... The power I received from her got stronger?
I’m not even sure how to measure it since I have never used her powers before and thus have no way of measuring the before and after effects of this.
If it was Olivia on the other hand... I’ve already used her lightning several times so she would have been the easiest to know if something had changed.
But... I wonder what she would say if I told her I wanted to sleep with her to confirm a theory about my powers?
I guess I shouldn’t do that even as a joke since I know for a fact she would definitely take it seriously.
Stashing the reason behind Ava’s sudden increase in power level away for now, we proceeded onward through the tunnel while being more cautious this time.
The strength of the Anomalies definitely increased here so it would not do for us to be careless here.
Even a full fledged Mortal God could still be killed in a rift so that says a lot for a new Mortal God like myself.
We managed to cover a good amount of distance without meeting any other Anomaly until the tunnel reached a giant cavern.
The path stopped at a triangular ledge where the ground gave way to a deep and dark chasm that we were unable to see the bottom of.
This place looked like the same chasm that the bunny girls had taken up residence in except this one was ray, way bigger in size.
I had to compare the relative sizes, if the chasm where the rabbit girls had taken up residence was the size of a car, the chasm in front of us would be the size of a giant cruise ship.
Actually... I think it’s even bigger than that... I can’ even see the other end of the wall from here and it just looked like it stretches on forever.
I peered over the edge at the darkness below us, pausing when I heard the same sound of the howling which could either be the wind or the noises of the Anomalies.
I turned behind to look at my Guardians, "Do we have any light sticks?"
Leena quickly reached into one of her bags behind her and pulled out three green coloured light sticks.
I took them and cracked them, activating the light before tossing it down into the hole in front of me.
The bunch of lightsticks tumbled through the air and fell deeper and deeper and deeper until they were just a small speck that was barely visible in the darkness.
I thought they would just continue falling until they disappeared but one of them suddenly hit something and bounced once before stopping, revealing there was another ledge somewhere below us. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
The others missed the ledge entirely and continued to fall until another one of them hit something again and it bounced further out into the darkness while the last light stick continued its straight descent into the darkness.
The last one reached the ground first and I could see it bounce up once before settling down and the second light stick hit the ground after that at the same elevation, proving that it was indeed the bottom of the chasm.
At this height, they were just tiny specks that barely illuminated the area around them, revealing shadows that seemed to move away from the light like they were repulsed by it.
I saw the flash of something shiny as well before the shadows suddenly converged on the light sticks and the light was immediately cut out, leaving only one light stick that was stuck on a ledge above that still remained lit.
I could sense Maylene shuddering beside me as the shadows were clearly a mass of Anomalies that swarmed the light to snuff it out. It also made the inky blackness below us look like there was a sea of Anomalies down there, waiting for something to fall in to tear it into pieces.
"Time?" I whispered.
"Fourteen seconds," Leena answered immediately.
I paused for a moment.
Err... What was the formula again? Height equals zero point five times gravitational acceleration times time squared.
Assuming that this rift has the same gravity as earth... That would bring it to around four point nine times fourteen squared and... That means this cliff is about nine hundred and sixty metres, or over three thousand and a hundred and fifty feet high.
I think this is equivalent to around a three hundred floors high building.
Yeah, I don’t think we brought a long enough rope to climb down that far of a distance.
I looked back at my Guardians and Olivia pointed towards the side, "My Lord... Over there."
I turned and squinted my eyes at the darkness, not really seeing what she was trying to point out to me until I focused my light at where she was pointing at.
I realised that there was actually a path there that seemed to lead down into the chasm below if we were to just hop off over the side of the ledge over there.
Just by looking at it from here, I’m not really sure if it leads all the way down to the bottom but it at least looked like it was curving down in that direction for now.
Since there doesn’t look like there was another path down aside from that one, I guess we would have to use that to head down towards the bottom.
I got closer to that ledge to try and get a better look at the path and I quickly realised that it seemed as though the path was supposed to continue up until the ledge that we had been standing on at first, but some part of it broke off and the path became incomplete.
Looking at the wall closest to the ledge, it also looks like there were claw marks that belonged to creatures that had tried to climb up the ledge here as well.
"If we want to get down there... I suppose we would have to use this path," I decided.
Sergei came over to me, "Mortal God... Judging by the shadows we saw... The entire place down there could be filled with Anomalies. A number that a small group like ours have is not prepared to deal with."
I nodded, "I agree as well. We won’t attack the main force there but I’m hoping we can at least see that kind of Anomalies are down there, the position of the Gatekeeper if possible, and maybe a rough estimate of how many of these creatures we’re dealing with as well."
Maylene turned to me, "You’re actually going down there?"
"Of course... Our goal is to destroy the Gatekeeper to close this rift from reaching our World after all... And the Gatekeeper should be somewhere down there."
"And the Mana Crystals..." Olivia reminded me.
"Oh yes, the Mana Crystals too."
Maylene perked up, "I read about these Mana Crystals but what exactly do they look like? The course did not show a picture of them."
Olivia took out her phone and showed her a picture of it, prompting the bunny girl to let out a gasp.
"Oh those? We have a whole ton of those down at our colony! We’re mining them to use them to power our machines right now!"
Wait, what?!
