Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Vivian, I Like You

Jett Sterling froze for a moment, then ecstasy quickly filled his deep eyes. He gripped her slender waist and deepened the kiss!

They kissed, inseparable, as hot tears streamed between their lips.

After a long moment, just as Vivian Quinn was about to run out of air, she pushed him lightly, and the man finally released her.

Jett Sterling lowered his head, kissing her brow before kissing away the tears from her face.

Vivian Quinn’s tears continued to fall as she leaned into his embrace.

"Vivian, you’ve agreed, haven’t you?"

Hearing the man’s cautious question, Vivian’s tears flowed even more freely. She nodded emphatically. "Yes, I promise you. I won’t let go anymore. I don’t care what anyone else thinks, I’m never letting go again!"

Jett Sterling held her tightly, wishing he could absorb her into his very being. "Good. We’ll never let go of each other again!"

...

Joy Chase was moved into a VIP hospital room, with a dedicated caregiver and bodyguards standing guard.

"Sis, this is too expensive. We can’t afford it."

"Joy, Jett Sterling arranged this. Don’t worry about it."

Joy Chase winked playfully. "Sis, you’re in love, aren’t you?"

Vivian Quinn blushed. "...I guess you could say that."

"That’s wonderful, Sis! I’m so happy you’ve found love!" Joy Chase cried tears of joy. "Now that there’s someone to take care of you, even if my illness can’t be cured, I can pass away peacefully..."

"Joy, what are you talking about!" Vivian Quinn said, displeased. "Don’t say things like that. I’ll make sure you get better."

"I don’t dare to have such a luxurious hope, but if I do get a chance to recover, I want to properly repay you, Sis, and Mason."

Vivian Quinn nodded. "Yes, Joy is a good girl who knows how to show her gratitude."

After making sure Joy was settled in, Vivian Quinn left the hospital room and went to another one upstairs.

"Vivian?" Mason Landon was surprised to see her. "Aren’t you supposed to be on a plane to Pariden?"

"Mason, I’m not leaving," Vivian Quinn said, stepping forward. "I’ve already settled Joy in. I’m not leaving Aethelgard."

Mason Landon was taken aback for a second, then smiled. "It’s because of Jett Sterling, isn’t it?"

"...How did you know?"

"During the two days you were here taking care of me, you called out Jett Sterling’s name in your sleep every day. I knew then that he was already in your heart."

Vivian Quinn was completely stunned. She couldn’t believe she had actually called out Jett Sterling’s name in her dreams!

"Mason, I’m sorry. I’ve wasted all the arrangements you made for me. To be honest, my original plan was just to take Joy abroad, get her settled, and then come back. As for Jett Sterling... he was unexpected."

"If he was unexpected, then it shouldn’t have happened, should it?" Mason Landon looked at her, confused. "Vivian, Jett Sterling isn’t an ordinary man. You and he are from different worlds. Do you understand that?"

"I understand." Vivian Quinn bit her lower lip. "I know that in many people’s eyes, I’m not good enough for him."

"Vivian, I’ve never thought you weren’t good enough for him. You’re wonderful—smart and kind. Even with your difficult past, I’ve never held it against you. That’s why I wanted you to go abroad, to forget all the unhappiness and start over." Mason Landon took her hand. "Vivian, as long as you’re willing, I’ll always be by your side."

Vivian Quinn’s eyes widened. "You... What do you mean by that?"

"Can you really not see that I love you?" Mason Landon let out a self-deprecating laugh. "If I didn’t love you, why would I have taken such good care of Joy all these years? If I didn’t love you, I wouldn’t have been so heartbroken that I left the country when you were getting engaged to Austin Grant."

"But I never imagined that by leaving, I would just be pushing you into another man’s arms. Vivian, I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have left. I shouldn’t have left you all alone in Aethelgard to face those schemes. Please, give me another chance, okay?"

Vivian Quinn hastily pushed his hand away. "Mason, do you even know what you’re saying!"

"Of course I do!" Mason Landon said, enunciating every word. "Vivian Quinn, I’m telling you, I love you. I don’t care about anything—not your past, not what’s become of you. I love you!"

Vivian Quinn shook her head vigorously. "We’re friends, just friends!"

"I’ve never thought of you as just a friend!" Mason Landon clutched the wound on his shoulder. "Why would you think a friend would risk his life to take a bullet for you?"

Vivian Quinn’s mind was a complete mess. ’No, it’s not like that... I didn’t know you felt this way. If I had known, I...’

"You would have what?!" Mason Landon cut her off. "Vivian, don’t say it. Please, don’t be so cruel to me."

Vivian Quinn forced herself to calm down. "Mason, I’m sorry, but I’m already married. I’m a married woman now. It’s really not appropriate for you to be saying these things. You’re a good man; you’ll definitely find someone who’s truly right for you."

"Vivian, you don’t have to give me the ’you’re a good guy’ speech. I won’t accept it." Mason Landon closed his eyes in anguish, suppressing the pain in his gaze. "It doesn’t matter. I’m willing to wait for you. Jett Sterling isn’t the one for you. You’ll soon find out he’s not right for you."

"Mason, you’re not thinking clearly right now. I’m going to pretend you never said any of this. You should get some rest. I’m leaving."

Mason Landon watched her back as she left and let out a bitter laugh. "Vivian, I will never give up on you..."

The moment Vivian Quinn left, a young male doctor came in pushing a cart. "Time to change your dressing."

Mason Landon unbuttoned his shirt, allowing the doctor to change his dressing.

"I wouldn’t have pegged you as the lovesick type," the young doctor said with a faint smile. "She probably has no idea that with your skills, you didn’t need to take that bullet. You could have gotten out of there completely unscathed. But it seems your little pity play didn’t win her heart..."

Mason Landon lifted his eyelids, his usually gentle features now shrouded in a cold, ruthless aura. "She’s mine."

The young doctor continued to change his dressing nonchalantly. "The man she’s married to now is Jett Sterling—the most difficult man to go up against in all of Celestine. I’d advise you not to do anything reckless. It’s just a woman. There are plenty of them out there."

Mason Landon slowly closed his eyes, stubbornly and resolutely repeating, "She’s mine..."

...

On the way back to Sycamore Bay, Vivian Quinn was on edge.

Who could have guessed that Jett Sterling would be right on the money—that he’d correctly guessed Mason Landon had feelings for her!

’She racked her brain but couldn’t figure it out. What on earth did Mason like about her?’

"What’s wrong?" He took her hand, his deep, gentle voice sounding beside her ear. "You look troubled. Are you worried about Joy Chase?"

Vivian Quinn collected her thoughts and turned to the man beside her. "It’s nothing. Joy is safe now, so there’s nothing to worry about."

"The bodyguards are my men. They’ll protect her. I guarantee not even a fly will be able to get near her." The man lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it. "Vivian, promise me you won’t hide anything from me."

Vivian Quinn’s lips curved into a small smile. "Okay."

After such a hectic day, Vivian Quinn went straight to the bathroom to soak in a hot bath.

As her exhausted body gradually relaxed, Vivian Quinn rested her arms on the edge of the tub, drifting off to sleep.

In a daze, she felt someone lift her out of the water...
