Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Entangled for a Lifetime

Jett Sterling froze, a flicker of gloom in his eyes that Vivian Quinn missed entirely.

He quickly reined in his thoughts. "Are you sure you want to talk about that night?"

Vivian Quinn’s face flushed red as she hurriedly changed the subject. "Can I borrow your phone for a second?"

Jett Sterling said calmly, "Easton Rivers."

Easton Rivers immediately presented a new phone. "Miss Quinn, this is a new phone for you from Master Sterling."

Vivian Quinn didn’t take it. "I can’t accept this. I haven’t done anything to deserve it."

She just wanted to call her own phone, that was all.

"Is there a problem with me giving my girlfriend a phone?" Jett Sterling handed the phone to her. "Take it. Have Easton Rivers get you a new SIM card."

"I already have a phone, I just don’t know where it is," Vivian Quinn said sullenly.

"Everything from the past should be discarded. Including that phone."

Vivian Quinn couldn’t argue with him and had no choice but to take it. "I need to go back to the Quinn family’s house to pack some things."

"I’ll go with you."

"You don’t have to."

"I won’t go in. I’ll just wait for you outside."

Only then did Vivian Quinn stop refusing. To be more precise, the man was so domineering that she simply had no way to refuse.

...

After dinner, Jett Sterling took Vivian Quinn to the Quinn family’s villa.

Vivian Quinn went in by herself. The moment she opened the door, she was met with a cacophony of voices from inside.

A familiar voice drifted out. "Austin has meticulously planned an engagement party for me. It’s on the eighth of next month, so you all have to be there!"

"Of course we will! Who doesn’t know that Master Grant spent a fortune to hold your engagement party at The Platinum Hall, Rachel? You can’t book that place with just money—you need status, too. Master Grant treats you so well, it makes everyone else envious!"

"The comparison is just brutal. Yesterday’s engagement party was at a five-star hotel—so shabby. But for Rachel, it’s at the only seven-star hotel in Aethelgard. That’s the difference between a business alliance and true love."

Vivian Quinn listened coldly. After the heart-wrenching agony of last night, her heart was completely numb.

"Well, well, if it isn’t Vivian Quinn." Rachel Quinn’s best friend, Nina King, spotted her instantly. "Why are you sneaking around like a thief? Eavesdropping on our conversation?"

Vivian Quinn walked into the living room. "This is the Quinn family home. Why would I need to sneak around?"

"We’re here celebrating for Rachel. You should join us... Oh, dear, I forgot. You were just dumped by Master Grant. You must be devastated. How could you possibly share in our joy?"

Vivian Quinn strode forward, poured a glass full to the brim with wine, and flung it squarely in Nina King’s face.

"AHH!" Nina King, utterly humiliated, shrieked, "Vivian Quinn, are you insane!"

Vivian Quinn tilted her head. "Didn’t you ask me to join in? Well, I’m here. Not feeling very welcome, am I?"

Humiliated, Nina King flew into a rage. She shot to her feet and raised her hand to slap Vivian.

Vivian Quinn was faster. She caught Nina’s wrist and gave her a hard shove, sending her stumbling back onto the sofa.

"Vivian Quinn!" Nina King shrieked, utterly incensed. "You uncultured hick! You’ve been back with the Quinn family for five years, and you’re still so vile. How are you worthy of staying in this family?!"

"You can’t possibly think you’re the true heiress of the Quinn family, can you? Just look at you. You’re an eyesore walking down the streets of Aethelgard!"

"Even Mr. and Mrs. Quinn only treat Rachel as their real daughter. Can’t you have a little self-awareness and just get the hell out of the Quinn family yourself?"

"Nina, how can you say that to Vivian?" Rachel Quinn interjected, her voice laced with self-blame and sorrow. "When it comes down to it, I’m the one who occupied her place for sixteen years. It’s only because Mom and Dad took pity on me that I was allowed to stay. I’m the one who should be leaving."

"Rachel, how can you be so kind? Even her parents don’t care about bloodlines, so you shouldn’t put yourself down. You’re our goddess."

"That’s right, Rachel is a goddess. As for a certain someone... who cares if she has the Quinn family’s blood in her veins?"

Vivian Quinn sneered.

She and Rachel Quinn had been born in the same hospital on the same day. Seeing that the Quinn family was wealthy, Rachel’s parents had a wicked thought and secretly swapped the two babies.

It wasn’t until a few years ago that the Quinn family accidentally discovered Rachel wasn’t their biological daughter.

At the age of sixteen, Vivian Quinn was finally returned to her birth parents.

Meanwhile, Rachel’s biological father was in prison for theft, and her biological mother had long since remarried, leaving Rachel with nowhere to go.

Furthermore, Mr. and Mrs. Quinn couldn’t bear to part with Rachel, the girl they had doted on her entire life. So she remained the family’s "Eldest Miss," while Vivian, the true daughter, became the "Second Miss."

Vivian Quinn was no saint. The whole situation made her sick to her stomach; after all, the life she’d led for those sixteen years was barely fit for a human.

But as long as it made her parents happy, she was willing to endure it.

But she had underestimated Rachel Quinn. The girl’s schemes were unfathomably deep, and with just a few manipulations, she had turned their parents against their own biological daughter.

No one cared about the hardships and suffering she had endured all those years. They only saw her as a hopeless case from the countryside, someone who couldn’t hold a candle to Rachel Quinn.

Rachel Quinn was multi-talented; she was worthless.

Rachel Quinn was well-behaved and sensible; she was defiant and rebellious.

Rachel Quinn was innocent and kind; she was malicious and cruel.

For five years, Rachel Quinn had plotted her every move, finally crushing Vivian into the dust and ruining her life beyond recognition.

Rachel Quinn dabbed at the tears in her eyes and stepped forward to take Vivian’s hand. "Vivian, I apologize on their behalf. Please don’t be angry. Come, sit down and have a drink with us."

Vivian Quinn picked up a bottle of wine from the coffee table and poured it straight over Rachel’s head.

"You smell so fake. Let me help you wash it off."

Rachel Quinn choked back sobs. "Vivian, how could you do this to me..."

"Vivian Quinn, you’ve gone too far!" Nina King couldn’t watch any longer and roared, "Girls, let’s teach her a lesson for Rachel today!"

Several of the girls swarmed forward, dragging Vivian onto the sofa and pinning her down. Nina King grabbed a bottle of wine and started forcing it into her mouth.

Vivian struggled to get away. With a PFFT, she spat all the wine in her mouth right into Nina King’s face.

"You bitch, how dare you spit on me!" Humiliated and enraged, Nina King raised her hand and slapped Vivian hard across the face.

Vivian’s eyes went cold. Just as she was about to retaliate, the villa’s door was thrown open with a loud BANG.

Everyone turned toward the sound. A dozen bodyguards in black suits marched into the living room in perfect formation. Without a word, they seized the girls pinning Vivian down.

Before the girls could even process what was happening, a man in a wheelchair rolled into the room.

All the girls present were captivated by his handsome face.

"He’s so handsome. Who is that?"

"I have no idea..."

Easton Rivers helped Vivian to her feet. "Miss Quinn, are you all right?"

"I’m fine."

Jett Sterling held out a hand to her. "Come here."

Easton Rivers immediately helped Vivian over to him.

Vivian had been forced to drink a fair amount of wine and was unsteady on her feet. She lost her balance and stumbled, falling directly toward the man in the wheelchair...
