Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Falling in Love

Easton Rivers was shocked when he heard what Jett Sterling had instructed him to do last night.

’Master Sterling actually transferred all his assets to his wife? This is more than just being in love. He’s completely devoted!’

Vivian Quinn was stunned for a moment. She quickly composed herself and spoke coldly, "You’re not me, and you could never understand what I’m feeling. What gives you the right to so casually tell me to give him a chance?"

"In your eyes, as a bystander, do you just think I’m being dramatic, willful, and unreasonable?"

"Or what, just because he gave me all this stuff, I’m supposed to be moved to tears, cry and thank him for his ’generosity,’ give up any thought of divorce, and stay by his side, hopelessly devoted?"

"Ma’am, that’s not what I meant!" Easton Rivers explained hastily. "I just think... Master Sterling hasn’t had it easy either..."

"He hasn’t had it easy? Did I hold a knife to his throat and force him to drug and deceive me?" Vivian Quinn waved a hand dismissively. "You don’t have to say another word. I don’t want to waste my breath on you. I’ve already decided on a divorce. I won’t be taking any of this. I may be poor, but I’ve never believed that money is everything."

"If I loved him, I’d go begging with him even if he were a beggar. If I don’t love him, he could be the richest man in the world and lay mountains of gold and silver at my feet, and it would mean nothing to me. Understand?"

Easton Rivers had worked by Jett Sterling’s side for years, so busy that he even worked overtime during the Lunar New Year. He had minimal contact with women, let alone one as tough and difficult as this. He was instantly at a loss for what to do.

Vivian Quinn said coldly, "I’ll move out as soon as possible. You should also convince Jett Sterling to divorce me quickly. Let’s not make this awkward for everyone."

"Ma’am, actually..."

Just as Easton Rivers started to speak, Vivian Quinn’s phone suddenly rang.

She glanced at the screen and answered the call.

The person on the other end said something, and Vivian Quinn replied, "I know. See you in a bit," before quickly heading out.

...

「Half an hour later」

Vivian Quinn arrived at a coffee shop.

"Boss, over here!" A spirited young man waved at her.

Vivian Quinn walked over and sat down. "When did you get back?"

"Last night! I came looking for you at the Quinn Estate as soon as I got over my jet lag, but the servants said you’d moved out. Boss, did you finally see the light? No longer putting up with the Quinn Family’s crap?"

"Shane, I didn’t want to disturb your vacation, so I didn’t tell you. I had a falling-out with the Quinn Family."

"While I was waiting for you, I got the full story from a gossip group chat with some rich kids. I can’t believe so much happened while I was abroad!" Shane Shaw grew angrier as he spoke. "I told you so! My intuition is always spot on. It was obvious Austin Grant was bad news from the start. You were a fool to sacrifice so much for him, and what did you get in the end? Cheated on!"

Vivian Quinn took a sip of her lemonade and didn’t say anything.

Seeing her sullen expression, Shane Shaw changed his tune. "Alright, I’ll stop. Boss, don’t be upset. A guy like Austin Grant isn’t worth being unhappy over."

"I’m not hung up on Austin Grant. Once you throw trash in the trash can, why would you go back and sniff it?"

"So badass, Boss!" Shane Shaw looked at her face. "But you still look really unhappy."

Vivian Quinn sighed. "Shane, a lot really has happened recently. I’ll tell you when I’ve figured out how to put it into words. Right now, the most urgent thing is that I need to rent an apartment."

"Huh? Boss, you need to rent a place? Where are you staying now? A hotel?"

"...A temporary residence."

"Oh, that’s easy. I’ll help you find a place."

"Okay."

"Boss, if you’re short on cash, remember to tell me. Have you used up the two hundred thousand for the hospital bill? Should I go deposit some more?"

Vivian Quinn was surprised. "The two hundred thousand for the medical bill at the hospital... you paid it?"

"Yeah. I have my sources, so I happened to find out you couldn’t pay the medical fees, and I took care of it for you."

"Thank you." Vivian Quinn took out her phone. "Give me your bank account number. I’ll pay you back."

"Boss, I know you don’t like being in debt to anyone, but you don’t have to rush to pay me back. Just give it back when you have the money."

Vivian Quinn thought for a moment, then said, "I do need to keep some money on hand. How about this: I’ll pay you back one hundred fifty thousand now, and the remaining fifty thousand later."

’The two hundred thousand I’d gotten from Ethan Grant was meant to repay this debt. I can’t just not pay it back because it’s Shane.’

Shane Shaw couldn’t win the argument, so he had to agree.

Vivian Quinn transferred the money and instantly breathed a sigh of relief. "I didn’t know who had paid the bill for me before, and it was weighing on my mind. Now I feel better. That’s one less thing to worry about. I owe you one for this."

"Don’t mention it, Boss." Shane Shaw’s eyes darted around, and he suggested, "Why don’t we go drinking tonight? We can go to a bar, let loose a bit. Maybe you’ll feel better."

"Sure, if you want to."

The two of them found a place for dinner and then went to a lively bar.

Vivian Quinn didn’t really like such noisy places, but Shane enjoyed them, so she could only accompany him.

Plus, she wasn’t in a good mood, so she started downing one drink after another.

Shane Shaw came back from a bit of dancing and was almost stunned. "Boss, are you crazy? This stuff has a real kick. Are you drinking it like it’s water?"

"I’m fine." Vivian Quinn took a sip of her drink. "Shane, have you ever been in love with someone?"

"I love you, Boss!" Shane Shaw blurted out. "When I was a kid, my health was poor. My grandpa said I would negatively affect the Shaw Family’s fortune and forcibly sent me to the countryside to recover. You were the only friend I had there, Boss."

"I’m not talking about our kind of love. I mean romantic love, between a man and a woman."

"Then no," Shane Shaw said. "Boss, why are you suddenly asking? Are you in love with someone?"

Vivian Quinn shook her head gently. "I’m just curious. If you really love someone, would you choose to deceive and scheme against them?"

"I don’t think so. No one likes to be deceived and schemed against."

Vivian Quinn grew even more depressed and continued to pour herself another drink. "So he loves himself the most. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants!"

Shane Shaw: "..."

"Boss, who is this ’he’ you’re talking about?"

"No one." Vivian Quinn poured him a drink. "Come on, cheers! We’re not going home until we’re drunk tonight!"

"Alright!"

...

It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning that two figures emerged from the bar.

Vivian Quinn’s steps were unsteady. She leaned over a planter by the bar’s entrance and began to vomit violently.

"Boss, are you okay?" Shane Shaw patted her back. "There’s a vending machine over there. I’ll go get you a bottle of water!"

When Shane Shaw returned with the water, he saw a man in a wheelchair next to Vivian Quinn, his hand reaching out to touch her back.

Blood rushed to Shane Shaw’s head. He immediately charged forward and smacked the man’s hand away. "You dare touch her? Are you looking to die?"

Jett Sterling stared at the hand Shane was using to support Vivian Quinn, a cold glint in his eyes. "Let go of her."

"Who the hell are you? You dare order me around?"

"Her husband."
