Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 204: Possessiveness
Vivian’s mind couldn’t quite keep up. She asked instinctively, "What meaningful thing?"
Jett Sterling didn’t say a word. He simply lowered his head and kissed her on the lips.
Vivian’s eyes flew open. Her hands clutched his shoulders, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.
"Vivian..." The man’s kisses peppered her neck. "Relax..."
His voice was deep and gentle, carrying an indescribable power. Vivian felt the anxiety in her heart slowly melt away.
’That man and the child who died at birth are in the past. They can’t—and shouldn’t—affect my life anymore!’
Vivian took a deep breath, slowly wrapped her arms around Jett’s neck, and returned his kiss.
A flicker of delight in his eyes, Jett deepened the kiss.
The room was filled with a sensual air...
...
「The next day.」
Vivian slept in until noon, then personally cooked a chicken soup to take to the hospital.
The hospital room was empty. Vivian called a nurse over and asked, "Where is the child?"
"Mrs. Sterling, the young master has already been discharged."
Vivian frowned. "Did someone from the Wentworth Family check him out?"
"Yes. They said they have a doctor at home, so he could just recuperate there."
"I see. Thank you."
Disappointed she hadn’t gotten to see Elle, Vivian thought it over before finally taking out her phone and calling Vincent Wentworth.
"Miss Quinn?" It was the first time Vincent Wentworth had received a call from Vivian, and he sounded quite surprised. "You were looking for me?"
"I came to the hospital to see Elle, but I found out you all had checked him out. Is he doing okay?"
"Elle was discharged?" Vincent was clearly unaware. "I’m not home yet, so I didn’t know. Let me go confirm."
"There’s no need." Vivian said. "Shirley Wentworth must have had her reasons for discharging him. It’s not my place to meddle in the Wentworth Family’s affairs. I’m just worried about Elle’s health."
"The Wentworth Family has a family doctor. Elle will be fine," Vincent said. "How about this? When I get home, I’ll have Elle video call you."
"That would be wonderful. Thank you."
"It’s nothing."
As evening approached, a video call request came from Vincent Wentworth.
Vivian answered immediately and, just as she’d hoped, saw Elle’s little face.
"Vivian!" Elle’s face lit up in a smile. "I miss you so much!"
"I miss you too." Vivian carefully studied his pale little face. "How are you feeling?"
Elle held up his little hand, which had an IV line in it, for Vivian to see. "I’m getting a drip."
Vivian’s heart ached for him. "Be a good boy, Elle. You have to get medicine when you’re not feeling well. Just hang in there."
"Okay. When I’m all better, I can come back to be with you, Vivian."
Vivian’s heart sank even further. ’I wish I could rush to his side right now!’
"Miss Quinn." Vincent took the phone, his voice gentle. "I’ve already spoken with the doctor. The IV drip is just to flush out the rest of the toxins. There’s nothing seriously wrong with Elle, so you can rest easy."
Vivian nodded. "Mr. Wentworth, please take good care of Elle. Don’t let him eat anything he shouldn’t again."
"I will."
Worried that Shirley Wentworth would be displeased, Vivian didn’t dare chat with Elle for long before quickly saying goodbye and hanging up.
She wasn’t in the mood for a walk, so she went to Joy Chase’s room instead.
A tutor was in the middle of a lesson with Joy.
"Sis."
"Mrs. Sterling."
"Am I interrupting?" Vivian asked.
"Not at all. We just finished. It’s our break time," the tutor said respectfully. "Miss Chase is very bright. She’s a quick study. If she keeps up this pace with her tutoring, she’ll be able to take the college entrance exams next year."
"That’s wonderful." Vivian was very happy. "Our Joy is certainly smart and eager to learn. Even when she was in the hospital, she loved to read."
"I’ve noticed that as well."
Joy looked a little embarrassed. "Sis, you guys can stop praising me. I just want to work hard and get into a good university, study medicine like you, and contribute to society."
"Joy, I know you can do it."
Vivian tried to distract herself, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Elle, and she didn’t sleep well all night.
She woke before dawn and couldn’t get back to sleep, so she decided to get up and busy herself in the kitchen.
"Ma’am, what are you doing up so early?" Nanny Jenner asked, walking in with a yawn. "Are you making soup?"
"It’s for Elle."
"But the young master isn’t at Sycamore Bay. He won’t be able to have any."
Vivian froze. "You’re right. Even if I make it, he won’t be able to have any... It’s fine. We’ll drink it ourselves."
"Ma’am, you’re so worried about the young master."
"I have classes today. Once the soup is ready, give it to Jett for lunch."
"Of course. Don’t you worry, Ma’am."
After breakfast, Vivian and Ian Sterling left for school.
At noon, just as the two of them were about to head to the cafeteria for lunch, a video call request suddenly came in from Vincent Wentworth.
Vivian answered and saw Elle’s face.
"Vivian, the soup you made is delicious! I’ve already had two bowls!"
Vivian said, surprised and delighted, "How did you get to have the soup I made?"
"Daddy had someone send it to my uncle."
Vincent Wentworth, who was sitting beside Elle, spoke up. "Jett called me and said you’d made soup for Elle. Don’t worry, I snuck it back for him. No one will know."
"Thank you."
"It’s nothing, really." Vincent patted Elle’s head. "Besides, Elle hasn’t had much of an appetite at the Wentworth estate. It’s rare to see him eat so well."
"I’m just glad he likes it."
"I love it, Vivian."
"Good."
After Vivian hung up, Ian Sterling finally spoke up. "I’m surprised. Vincent Wentworth seems to really care about Elle."
"He’s his maternal uncle, after all. It’s normal for him to care."
Ian stroked his chin. "But I get the feeling he has an ulterior motive..."
Vivian’s nerves immediately tensed. "What do you mean? Are you saying Vincent is devious and has some other agenda?"
’It still hasn’t been confirmed whether or not Vincent had anything to do with Elle’s poisoning.’ She was already wary of him.
"Exactly," Ian analyzed. "Are you two close? Why is he video calling you all the time?"
"The video calls are for Elle’s sake."
"Not necessarily." Ian’s lip twitched. "The Wentworths have no scruples. Shirley Wentworth is the perfect example. So you’d better keep your distance from Vincent from now on, or my uncle might get jealous."
Vivian was dumbfounded. "Are you saying you think Vincent has a thing for me? What are you even talking about?"
"I’m not just making things up. You’ve only known him for a few days, and he’s contacting you way too often."
"You’re overthinking it. Our only connection is Elle, that’s it," Vivian instructed. "Don’t you dare say anything like this in front of your uncle. He’s very possessive and it could easily cause a misunderstanding."
"I know, I know."
Seeing Elle on the video call had lifted Vivian’s spirits.
When her classes ended that evening, Jett Sterling came to pick her up himself.
"What’s got you so happy, hm?"
"It’s because of you, of course." Vivian planted an enthusiastic kiss on the man’s handsome face. "You had the soup I made sent to Elle. He drank so much of it."
"That’s all it takes to make you happy?" The man pinched her cheek. "I’m taking you somewhere that will make you even happier."
