Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Divorce

"Don’t say another word!" Vivian Quinn grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, sobbing uncontrollably. "Do you have any idea what it feels like to listen to you right now? It’s filthy! So, so filthy! It feels like your words are defiling my ears!"

"Vivian, I think you need to calm down." Jett Sterling sighed softly. "You probably don’t want to see me right now. I’ll leave."

With that, the man steered his wheelchair out of the room.

Watching his cold, retreating back, Vivian Quinn’s eyes blurred with tears once more.

She couldn’t understand why Jett Sterling had changed so drastically!

’Am I really such a poor judge of character?’

’But I’ve always trusted my intuition. My feelings can’t be wrong!’

Vivian Quinn felt a splitting headache, unable to think straight.

She lay down, drifting into a heavy sleep. The next time she was conscious, she heard Nanny Jenner’s anxious voice. "Madam, why is your fever so high! Someone! Call a doctor, quickly!"

Vivian Quinn tried to open her eyes, but her eyelids felt as heavy as lead. She couldn’t force them open, and her consciousness began to slip away.

She felt so cold. Despite being bundled in bed, it was as if she were in an icehouse. There wasn’t a warm spot on her body, and the chill made her curl into a ball, shivering violently.

It sounded like the door opened, followed by the voices of Nanny Jenner and another person.

A buzzing filled Vivian Quinn’s ears, and she couldn’t make out what they were saying.

Just a moment later, someone suddenly took her hands.

The hands holding hers carried a faint warmth. Vivian Quinn subconsciously squeezed back, clinging to them like a drowning person to a lifeline.

After an unknown amount of time, a sharp pain pricked the back of her hand. Vivian Quinn’s last thread of consciousness faded, but she never let go of those hands...

...

When Vivian Quinn woke again, she didn’t know what time it was, only that it was already dark outside.

A dim night light glowed in the master bedroom. Nanny Jenner was dozing in a nearby armchair.

Vivian Quinn’s lips moved, and she called out weakly, "Nanny Jenner... Nanny Jenner..."

Nanny Jenner woke with a start, her face a mixture of surprise and relief. "Madam, you’re finally awake! Your fever just wouldn’t break. You scared me half to death!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Vivian Quinn’s head was still spinning, and her throat felt so raw she could hardly speak.

"Madam, here, sit up and drink some water." Nanny Jenner brought over a glass of warm water. "The doctor said your fever was very high, so it’s normal for your throat to be dry and hoarse. Drinking more water will help."

Vivian Quinn sat up and drank half a glass of water, feeling a little better. "Thank you, Nanny Jenner. Have you been the one taking care of me this whole time?"

"Yes."

Vivian Quinn hesitated for a moment, then said, "While I was unconscious, I felt like I was holding a pair of hands... a man’s hands. They weren’t yours..."

Nanny Jenner recalled, "Master Ian was the only one who came by. It must have been his hands."

Vivian Quinn’s heart sank. Then, she let out a sudden, self-mocking laugh.

’What was I even hoping for?’

’Was I hoping those hands belonged to Jett Sterling?’

’After everything that happened between us, what was there to hope for?’

Vivian Quinn closed her eyes, and tears welled up unbidden.

"Madam, what’s wrong?" Nanny Jenner asked with concern. "No matter what, your health is what matters most. You must take care of yourself!"

"Do you know what happened?"

Nanny Jenner shook her head. "I wouldn’t dare pry into matters between you and the Young Master."

Vivian Quinn slowly opened her eyes. "Then what kind of person do you think Jett Sterling is?"

"Madam, I’m not in a position to discuss the Young Master."

Vivian Quinn’s lips twisted into a small, bitter smile. "So that’s why he’s so brazen. You don’t even dare to talk about him. It’s clear he grew up so privileged that he sees no one but himself. Maybe there’s no one in this world who can control him, and that’s why he has no bottom line."

Nanny Jenner opened her mouth to speak, but then stopped herself.

"Nanny Jenner, please find me a lawyer."

"Madam, what do you need a lawyer for?"

"To file for divorce, of course."

Nanny Jenner was shocked. "Madam, divorce is no small matter. You can’t be impulsive."

Vivian Quinn gave a bitter smile. "Perhaps the most impulsive thing I’ve ever done in my life was marrying Jett Sterling."

She’d never forget that day—the way he reached out to her, his face etched with worry. In that instant, her heart had melted completely, and she’d married him without a second thought.

She had never regretted her decision and had always been determined to be responsible for their flash marriage. But Jett Sterling was the one who let go first.

"Madam, I still think you should think it over carefully. Marriage isn’t a game."

"Nanny Jenner, there’s a thirty-year age gap between us. Our views are probably very different. People from your generation might be better at forbearance—enduring things for the sake of family, for the children."

"But I can’t," Vivian Quinn said softly. "I know that no one is perfect. I’m not, and I never demanded a perfect husband. But everyone has a line, and Jett Sterling crossed mine. Even if it means dealing with the fallout of a flash marriage and flash divorce, I can’t possibly stay with him any longer."

Nanny Jenner sighed. "Madam, I can see that you’re a good person. I daren’t ask what the Young Master did, but I’m sure he must have hurt you deeply."

Vivian Quinn looked at her. "Thank you for taking care of me all this time. Please, find me a lawyer."

"Let’s put this aside for now," Nanny Jenner sighed. "Right now, the most important thing is for you to get your strength back. I’ll go get you something to eat."

She bowed her head and left, going directly to the study next door.

By the floor-to-ceiling window, Jett Sterling sat in his wheelchair, lost in thought as he gazed at the night outside. His silhouette looked proud and lonely.

"Young Master," Nanny Jenner said as she approached. "Madam is awake. She’s very weak and in a terrible state. She’s also asking me to find a lawyer... to... divorce you."

With his back still to her, the man’s voice was cold and steady. "Do as she says."

"But, Young Master..."

"This is not your place to interfere," Jett Sterling cut her off, his voice icy. "Don’t forget your place."

Nanny Jenner bowed her head quickly. "I’m sorry, Young Master."

"You may go," the man added. "Stay with her tonight. Take good care of her."

"Yes."

...

Vivian Quinn drank a bowl of nourishing hot porridge and a bowl of the herbal medicine Nanny Jenner brought her, then drifted back into a heavy sleep.

This time, she slept exceptionally deeply. When she woke again, day had broken.

The moment she opened her eyes, an enlarged, handsome face was right in front of her, making her jump. "Ah!"

Ian Sterling’s lips twitched. "Trying to give a guy a heart attack?"

"You’re the one who scared me!" Vivian Quinn shoved him away. "What are you doing so close to me?"

"I was studying your face to see if you’ve had work done. Whichever clinic did it, their skills are god-tier."

Vivian Quinn was speechless.

"I call you blind, and you’re really leaning into the part. Can’t a girl just be naturally stunning?"

"Haha! As long as you’ve got enough fight to sass me, that’s what counts!" Ian Sterling laughed. "Vivian Quinn, you’ve been practically dead to the world for the last couple of days. It’s about time you came back to life!"

Vivian Quinn froze.

’That’s right. Even when Rachel Quinn had ground her into the dust, she’d never been this miserable!’

’And now, because of Jett Sterling, I’ve nearly lost my life!’
