Chapter 106: Chapter 106: I Fell in Love With You at First Sight

Ian Sterling waved the doctor away. "You can go now."

The doctor nodded. "Alright."

"Why are you being so mysterious? What do you want to talk about?"

Ian Sterling leaned in close to Vivian Quinn, lowering his voice. "Tell me the truth. Did you and my uncle already know each other?"

"Of course not. How could I have possibly known him before?"

"That doesn’t add up. Why would he fall for you when you were ugly and lame?"

Vivian Quinn’s lips twitched. "Not everyone judges by appearances. Maybe he’s just good at seeing past the surface to what’s inside?"

"Yeah, right! Stop making my uncle sound so noble. A man falling for a woman without wanting something from her? I’d die before I believe that!"

"Don’t make your uncle sound so calculating, either. He’s a good person."

"Stop with the PDA!" Ian Sterling lamented. "I just think my uncle must have known what you really looked like from the start. Otherwise, any normal person... they wouldn’t have married the ’you’ from before."

Vivian Quinn’s lips curved into a smile. "You’re overthinking things. I really didn’t know him. For us, there’s only the present and the future. And I believe our future will be wonderful."

"I told you, no PDA!" Ian Sterling pulled a face mask from his pocket and handed it to her. "Put this on. To avoid being gawked at."

Vivian Quinn took it. "Thanks."

In the span of a single morning, news about Vivian Quinn had spread all over Aethelgard University. A crowd of "passersby" had suddenly gathered outside her classroom, every one of them peering inside.

"Vivian Quinn, you’ve blown up!" Ian Sterling exclaimed, holding his phone. "The buzz about you on the campus forum has even surpassed me! By the way, you were the campus belle before, right? There should be old photos of you, but why can’t I find any?"

"Rachel Quinn probably deleted them."

"Makes sense. Keeping your photos around wouldn’t be good for her image as the new campus belle." Ian wore a gossipy expression. "By the way, did you know that girl who dissed you this morning got expelled?"

"Why?" Vivian Quinn asked, curious.

"I heard that guy, Mason Landon, was the one who made the call. He’s got a pretty impressive background—from a prestigious medical family. His ancestors were prominent figures in Aethelgard, so the university has to give him some face."

Vivian Quinn, however, frowned. ’I wasn’t going to bother with such a minor thing. It looks like Mason Landon was helping me, but this could just cause more trouble down the line.’

Ian Sterling was indignant too. "You’re part of the Sterling Family! When did it become an outsider’s place to interfere in something like this? Getting someone expelled is as easy as me saying the word. Now you owe him a favor because of what he did."

Vivian Quinn nodded. "I know."

Ian’s eyes lit up. "So I was wrong before! He’s the one who likes you, isn’t he?"

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"Are we still on this?"

"I’m curious! Just tell me, or I’ll go tell my uncle that you’re flirting with the substitute teacher!"

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"You’ve got a death wish?"

"So, are you going to tell me or not?"

"Get lost."

"..."

Amidst their bickering, the day passed quickly.

Remembering that Jett Sterling was coming to pick her up, Vivian’s mind had long since left the classroom. The moment the bell rang, she packed her things in a flash and practically flew out the door.

Vivian Quinn ran to the school gate and looked around, but she still couldn’t see Jett Sterling’s car.

Her heart sank a little. ’He’s probably stuck in traffic,’ she thought. ’It’s no big deal to wait a bit longer.’ So, she stood there patiently.

"Vivian," a young man’s voice suddenly called from behind her.

Vivian Quinn turned to see a bright, handsome young man walking over. He looked at her shyly. "It’s hard to get a cab at this hour. I have a car, I can give you a ride."

"No, thank you," Vivian Quinn refused outright.

"It’s no trouble at all. I can take you wherever you need to go."

"Really, it’s fine. Someone is coming to pick me up."

The young man didn’t push it. He nodded and said, "It can be dangerous for a girl to wait by the road alone. I’ll stay here with you. I’ll leave when your ride gets here."

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"Vivian Quinn." Ian Sterling walked over. "Come on, I’ll give you a ride."

"No, thanks. I have a ride coming."

"And you’ve got company," Ian Sterling said, glancing at the other guy. "This is the heartthrob of the physical education department, captain of the school’s basketball team, and the most famous handsome guy in Aethelgard... besides me, of course."

The young man’s face instantly turned a deeper shade of red.

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"Ian, why are you telling me this?"

"The guy wants to woo you. Of course I have to give you a proper introduction."

"Don’t talk nonsense!"

"Vivian, what Ian said is true." Although the young man was blushing to the tips of his ears, he still summoned his courage to speak. "I fell for you at first sight. I want to pursue you. I hope you’ll give me a chance!"

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"You must be kidding, right?"

"I’m serious!" the young man explained anxiously. "I know I might be a bit too forward, and this is really sudden. I apologize for that, but I’m being sincere!"

Vivian Quinn scratched her head. "Thank you, but there’s already someone I like."

The young man’s expression shifted from hopeful anticipation to stunned disbelief, and finally to a look of hurt as he gazed at her sadly.

Vivian Quinn felt a strange pang of guilt. "I’m sorry."

The young man struggled to compose himself, then forced a smile. "You don’t need to apologize. I’m the one who bothered you today. But Vivian, I’m not going to give up on you. I’ll wait quietly. As long as you’re not married, I won’t give up." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"Alright, alright, is the big confession over?" Having had his fill of the drama, Ian Sterling finally spoke up. "Vivian Quinn, looks like your ride isn’t coming today. You have two choices: one, stay here and chat with the department heartthrob about his plans to woo you, or two, get in my car and leave."

Vivian Quinn didn’t hesitate. "Let’s go."

She gave the young man a nod and quickly followed Ian away.

The drive was silent.

Ian couldn’t stand it anymore. He glanced over at her. "Vivian Quinn, shouldn’t you be happy that someone confessed to you? Why the long face?"

"Jett Sterling said he’d pick me up, but he never came. I sent him a message, but he hasn’t replied."

"Oh, really?" Ian was also a little curious. "My uncle always keeps his word. If he promises to do something, he does it. This isn’t like him at all."

"You think so too, right?" Now even more worried, Vivian picked up her phone and called Jett Sterling.

The phone rang for so long that Vivian was about to give up when someone finally answered. A man’s deep, tired voice came through the line. "Vivian?"

"Jett, where are you? Are you alright?"

"I was napping. What’s wrong?"

Her heart leaped into her throat. "You didn’t have an episode, did you?"

"No."

"That’s good." Vivian said softly. "Ian is taking me home, so you don’t need to come pick me up anymore."

There was a long silence on the other end of the line before he spoke again. "Did I promise to pick you up? I’m sorry, I forgot."

Vivian didn’t want to get emotional, but she couldn’t stop a wave of disappointment and sadness from washing over her...
