Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 325: ‘Grand’ ceremony
The procession of the Shan Family made their way through the streets of the Roaring Tiger Empire’s capital.
As they made their way through the streets, they attracted quite a bit of attention as this was a large procession.
In addition to this, the Shan Family had already released the news of the engagement between Bing Xin and the duke.
So everyone in the capital already knew what was happening.
Though they knew what was happening, there were many people that looked on with pity. The way that they watched this procession was almost as if they were watching someone be sacrificed.
After all, that was the only way to describe this.
A young girl in her teens was being married off to the duke who was already in his mid fifties, what else could it be other than a sacrifice?
But the other side were the Shan Family of the Four Great Families and the duke that was backed by the royal family. So there was no one that dared to cause a commotion as the procession made its way through the streets.
They only just watched for a bit before leaving while letting out sighs.
There were many people that even looked down on the Shan Family for doing this, but it wasn’t as if they couldn’t understand why they were doing this.
Even if the Shan Family was one of the Four Great Families, that didn’t mean that they were unmatched in the Roaring Tiger Empire. There were three other families that were at the same level as them, as well as the royal family that ruled over the Roaring Tiger Empire.
So it was only natural that they would try to build relations with the Roaring Tiger Empire’s royal family.
This was for their future.
The procession quickly made their way to the duke’s manor which was on the opposite side of the city.
When they arrived, they couldn’t help slightly knitting their brows.
Even the elders of the Shan Family who were selling Bing Xin off couldn’t help looking a bit displeased when they saw the reception that was waiting for them.
Instead of the grand ceremony that they expected, all they saw were a few decorations and a few servants waiting for them. It seemed that the duke wasn’t showing them any face at all as he set up such a measly welcome for them.
But the Shan Family elders didn’t dare get angry over this matter.
They could guess what the duke was thinking.
The duke had already taken four concubines along with having three wives, so something like a wedding ceremony was already boring for him. He didn’t care about such things and only wanted to bring her in so that he could have his way with her as soon as possible.
As such, this measly welcome was already more than he was willing to put on.
If it wasn’t for the fact that the other side wasn’t the Shan Family, he wouldn’t have even put on a ceremony. He would have directly sent a carriage to the Shan Family to pick up Bing Xin and have been done with it.
The only other reason why he did this was because he and the Shan Family wanted everyone to know that there was this relationship between them now.
The duke wasn’t a fool, he had been able to live through the royal succession and reach the position that he was currently in because of his wit.
He knew that if he wanted to remain in this position longer and pass it down to his heir, he would need more people backing him. So he was using the Shan Family just like how the Shan Family was using him.
This meager ceremony was already him showing face to the Shan Family.
But for the Shan Family, this certainly was the first time that they had experienced sticking a hot face into a cold butt like this.
Family Head Shan could see the way that the others looked at him, so he said through gritted teeth, "Just endure for now. When this is all over, our Shan Family will be much stronger than before. We’ll see who will dare look down on our Shan Family when the time comes."
The others all had aggrieved looks in their eyes, but they still nodded in agreement to what Family Head Shan said.
In the carriage, Bing Xin was able to see everything.
They didn’t restrict her as they wanted her to show her figure to everyone so that they could show off. So they gave her a window to look out from as they passed through the city.
Though she had a veil covering her face, she was still able to see everything outside clearly.
When she saw the meagre welcome that the duke prepared for her, she let out a snort.
This was certainly not what she had expected from her wedding ceremony, but there was nothing that could be done since she had resolved to sacrifice herself like this.
The head servant came forward to greet Family Head Shan which made Family Head Shan a bit displeased. After all, in this situation, it should be Duke Yu who was here as the one holding the ceremony greeting the guest.
But this duty was left to the head servant instead.
It was clear that Duke Yu was looking down on them, but he couldn’t say a thing.
That was because the other guests were also arriving.
Since this was a wedding between Duke Yu and the Shan Family, there were naturally high profile guests that were invited.
Such as the heads of the other three families of the Four Great Families.
Though they were unhappy to see the Shan Family climbing onto the royal family’s leg, they still had to show themselves since this was a matter that would certainly change the political landscape of the Roaring Tiger Empire.
Family Head Shan’s displeased look disappeared when he saw them appear, but seeing the way that they looked at the shabby decorations, he once again had a trace of disapproval in his eyes.
Still, he took over greeting the guests from the head servant since that would at least save some face for them.
Family Head Shan went over to greet the guests that had arrived.
