Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 223: Half
It was a good thing that the rate of collapse wasn’t that fast, so we were able to outrun it.
It seemed like we weren’t the only ones that were running from this.
As we kept running from the cracks that formed, we found that there were others that were also caught up in this.
Though in the eyes of the other members of my group, it seemed like they were monsters. However, they knew that they weren’t monsters after what I had shown them, they were actually people from other lower realms.
Everyone prioritized their own lives, so they ran as fast as they could without fighting each other.
As we ran, I couldn’t help wondering how far this collapse would continue.
At the same time, I was thinking about where our exit portal was.
After all, if we lost that portal because of the collapse of the Void Battlefield, we would be stuck here. If the entire Void Battlefield were to collapse because while we were still in it, I couldn’t even begin to imagine what would happen to us.
However, I was certain that it wouldn’t be a good thing that would happen if it collapsed with us trapped in here.
Seeing that it didn’t seem like it would stop collapsing, I asked the system, "System, is there a way for us to escape this place?"
The system was silent for a bit before saying, "Host, please do not worry. There’s no need for the host to rely on the system to escape."
"Huh?" I was very confused when I heard this, but it seemed like the system was certain about this. It was as if the system knew something that it wasn’t telling me...
I couldn’t stop the bitterness that filled me when I heard this.
There was even a part of me that wanted to curse out the system, but I held myself back in the end.
Since the system had never been wrong before...I decided to trust the system for now.
Like the system said, the collapse of the Void Battlefield stopped after a while.
There were still cracks in the ground behind us and it looked too unstable for us to stand on, but at least there weren’t more cracks that formed where we were standing.
At the same time, the place where the cracks stopped forming was still some distance away from where our portal was.
I had made sure to make a mark on the map that the system provided, so I knew exactly where the exit was. It was still some distance away from the place where the cracks stopped and it was directly in front of us, so I knew that it wasn’t in an area that should have been affected by the collapse.
After all, all of the collapse that happened in this Void Battlefield was behind us.
As for what caused it...
I didn’t even need to guess to figure it out.
This would be a secret that I would take to my grave.
If someone were to find out that I had caused this...then first there was no doubt that there would be many people angry with me and would want to take revenge.
Even though I hadn’t seen anyone fall into the hole left by the collapsing ground, that didn’t mean that no one had fallen in. The collapse of the Void Battlefield was much bigger than just what we could see, it stretched far off into the distance.
There were certainly others on the other side that would be affected by this collapse...
If anyone lost their lives, the sect that they came from would certainly want revenge.
But even before that, there was no doubt that the upper realm would move.
The main reason that they even opened this Void Battlefield to all these people from the lower realm was because they wanted them to search for the War God Tomb in the first place.
Now that I’ve taken the artifact from the War God Tomb and received the inheritance, there was no doubt that they would turn their attention to me.
They would want to take that inheritance and the spear from me.
But if I didn’t tell anyone about the inheritance and the spear, it wasn’t as if they could do anything to me.
So this was a secret that I would take to my grave.
At the same time, I had to make sure that the others knew that this was a secret that we had to take to our graves.
Before that...I couldn’t help wondering just how much of this Void Battlefield had collapsed because we had taken the War God’s inheritance.
"Half."
I was surprised by this sudden comment.
But then I realized that it was the system that had spoken up.
I was very confused by the fact that the system had suddenly commented on this.
"The host asked a question after all."
The way that it said this, it was almost as if it was trying to make up for being silent before.
Was it worried that I thought that it was useless because of what happened before?
Or was it trying to make up for being silent before because it felt that I didn’t trust it.
"Host, please do not think too much."
That confirmed it.
It seemed that the system really was worried that I didn’t trust it and was trying to make up for it by being proactive.
A faint smile appeared on my lips as this thought passed through my mind.
But at the same time...
"Host, please do not let this get to your head."
The system really was a tsundere wasn’t it?
It really seemed to like to act tough.
However, that smile quickly disappeared when I realized something.
"This Void Battlefield was formed by the War God’s Tomb, which was why it collapsed after the War God’s inheritance was removed, right?"
"That’s right, host."
"Then why was it only half?" I asked in a sharp voice, as if I had caught the tail of the system.
