Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 220: Questioning
I had never seen this face clearly before, but I had seen the outline of this face.
The face that was in front of me was also an outline, which made it seem even more similar because that was what I was used to seeing.
The appearance of the person in front of me...looked just like the appearance that the Fifth Guardian Lord had when he appeared to help me.
It wasn’t just similar, it was almost exactly the same.
Did that mean that before becoming the Fifth Guardian Lord, he had been the War God?
If that was the case, did that mean that the one that had destroyed him was the one that created the system?
Then there was the warning that the War God had left behind in his inheritance...
It was clear that something had happened in the past before he became the Fifth Guardian Lord.
I had my brows deeply knit in thought for a bit before coming to a decision...
"System, what is the meaning of this?"
Instead of trying to figure this out on my own without the information that I needed, it was easier to directly question the system. When the evidence was this clear, I didn’t think that the system would be able to get out of answering that easily.
However...that didn’t mean that the system would answer.
The system used the same card that it always used.
The moment that I asked this question, the system immediately clammed up and refused to say anything.
If it didn’t say anything, it wasn’t as if I could force it to say anything...
Or at least that would have been the case if it wasn’t for the fact that this was a very important piece of information.
If it was true that the Fifth Guardian Lord was the War God, then it meant that the creator of the system was the one that had taken him down.
In that case, it was very likely that I might even have to fight the creator of the system one day.
If that ever happened, then would the system turn its back on him?
After all, it wasn’t as if the system would turn on its creator, right?
Even if it said that it was made for his sake, that didn’t mean that it would be able to turn on its creator. Especially if the creator of the system really was as powerful as the War God had made them seem.
If the system didn’t clarify this now, there was no way that I would be able to trust the system in the future...
The silent standoff continued for a bit before the system finally said, "Host, please do not think too much about this. The system has been created for your sake, that was the purpose that the system’s creator had when creating this system. The system’s creators have no ulterior motives."
I knitted my brows even more when I heard this.
After all, even if the system did believe this, it didn’t mean that it was true.
The creators of the system could have just made it so that the system believed this even though they had other intentions.
It was even likely that the system was nothing more than a tool to nurture him so that they could harvest him in the future...
He was a gullible soul from another realm that they had plucked up after he died, so he was the perfect person to nurture and then harvest in the future. After all, he never had any form of cultivation before, so it wasn’t as if he could have done anything to resist.
Maybe that was why the system was so generous...
"Host, please stop thinking too much about this. The system can guarantee that even if the creator of the system turns against the host, the system will be on the host’s side."
It was as if the system could read my mind as it said this.
I was caught off guard by this sudden statement from the system that I didn’t know how to respond to it.
After a moment to come back to my senses, I said to the system, "It isn’t as if you could be lying about all of this. There’s no guarantee that..."
Before I could finish, the system suddenly said, "Host, this system can vow that this system will never betray the host. Even if the creators of this system were to order the system to betray the host, the system will never listen to them."
I was even more surprised when I heard this.
It wasn’t just the words that the system said that surprised me, but the tone that it had said it in.
The voice of the system was no longer as mechanical as before and it even seemed like there was a strong determination in the voice of the system.
When it said it like this, I really didn’t know what to say...
There was a part of me that still felt doubt towards the system, but that part of me was overwhelmed by the touched feeling that I felt.
After a long silence, I gave an internal sigh before saying, "System, I hope that you will keep your word."
The system just firmly said, "Host, the system has said many times before that this system was created for the sake of the host. Host does not need to doubt the sincerity of the system."
I slowly said, "Thank you."
The system replied, "There’s no need to thank the system. The system is here with the host until the end."
I couldn’t help feeling a bit strange about the way that the system said this.
It was different from the vow that brothers would make, it was almost the vow that lovers would make the way that the system said this...
But I didn’t think too much about it and just took it at face value by saying, "Yes, we’re partners until the end."
Since the system was this sincere, at the very least, I should trust it...
But there was still the matter of the War God.
"The Fifth Guardian Lord is not the War God." The system suddenly said as if it read my mind.
I didn’t know what to say in response to this at first, but eventually I just agreed with what the system said.
After all, there was no other information that I had on this matter...
