Wasting Money to Become an Immortal-Chapter 157: Start of the competition
Over the next week, I spent quite a bit of time with Wang Jian.
However, one thing that kept happening was that people would come up to me and ask for money.
Every time, I just tossed it on the ground and let them pick it up.
Every time, they picked it up without a single word and then left.
Wang Jian kept looking at me with a worried look when he saw this, but I just told him, "It’s fine, think of it as an investment."
Though he nodded, it was clear that he wasn’t thinking the same thing as me.
But that didn’t matter since I didn’t bother explaining anything.
Though my senior brothers and senior sister were concerned about the friend that I chose to make...It seemed that Wang Jian’s reputation had spread quite far that even my senior brothers and senior sister knew about him.
Still, I didn’t worry about any of this.
After the week passed, the people that would be participating in the tournament finally all gathered.
The ones that had come to the gathering before were just the ones that had arrived early.
But as more and more people arrived, more of those gatherings were held.
It was just that I never went to any more of them since I didn’t feel there was a need for me to go.
When the tournament started, we were all gathered in the main square of the Medicine King Sect. There were many people that were gathered here at the same time and it wasn’t just the people that were here to watch.
The main square was filled with different tables that were clearly for the contestants to refine their pills on. There were many of them that were scattered all throughout the square, but it was clear which ones were the main attractions.
The ones that were in the center of the square were clearly the ones that everyone would be paying attention to. The ones that would be placed in the center would be the ones that everyone assumed would have the highest chance of winning.
None of our group was brought to the center. Even Senior Brother Hua wasn’t near the center, rather he was placed near the third row.
He wasn’t that far from the center, but it was clear that he wasn’t one of the favoured ones.
Even Kong Jing who had beaten Senior Brother Hua in a refining duel before was only placed in the third row.
As for me, I was placed all the way in the back.
There was no one that had any expectations of me, so I wasn’t given a good spot at all.
Though I didn’t really mind since this was only to be expected.
I didn’t have any alchemy skills in the first place, so it wasn’t as if there was anything to expect from me.
There was no doubt that I wouldn’t even make it past these preliminaries since I didn’t know how to refine pills at all.
Once everyone was gathered and were standing at their station, Shen Qing Feng was the one that came to the center along with a person that I didn’t recognize.
I thought that this person would be the Medicine King Sect’s sect master, but it turned out that I was wrong.
Wang Jian who was beside me explained, "That’s the current alliance master of the Central Sect Alliance."
"Alliance master?" I couldn’t help asking in a confused voice.
Wang Jiang was surprised to hear this since he thought that I would at least know this much, but I really didn’t know anything about the Central Sect Alliance.
I had never cared to ask about them before, so the only thing that I knew about them was what the people of the Star Peak Sect have told me about them. That meant that I didn’t know much about the Central Sect Alliance.
Wang Jian explained it to me. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"The alliance master is one who is in charge of the decisions of the Central Sect Alliance during their period of office. As for how they are chosen, they are voted by a council of the different sects that make up the Central Sect Alliance and they will stay in office for ten years."
In a sense, this was like the president that ran the Central Sect Alliance.
It was almost like a democratic system that they had running, if not for the fact that it was mostly decided by power.
Those first grade sects received more voting rights than the lower grade sects.
There were a few lower grade sects that were given the right to vote, but that was only because they were branches of higher grade sects that were being used for extra votes. The votes that these lower grade sects gave would always be for their main sect after all.
It was all about power when it came to voting the alliance master.
The current alliance master was one that had been in office for over a hundred years now.
The current alliance master was the sect master of the Mount Hua Sect, Leng Bu Ping.
While we were talking about this, the alliance master gave a grand speech about the importance of alchemy and how they wanted to cherish the talents of the various sects, which was why they were holding this tournament.
It would give a chance to everyone to show off their abilities and if they were recognized as a talent, they would receive the full support of the Central Sect Alliance.
This was made very clear by the reward that had been offered to the winner.
It was an Earth Grade Cauldron, several Second Grade Herbs, and a Strange Flame.
The first two items were naturally impressive in their own rights, but it was the last item that was the most impressive.
Strange Flames were flames that came from heaven and earth, they were flames that were above all other flames.
Only Strange Flames would be able to compete with strange flames.
As such, they were the best flames to use for alchemy.
That was why everyone was shocked to find that a Strange Flame was being offered as a prize.
