Warhammer Divine Throne-Chapter 652 - 287, Battle of Hemgart (Part 2)_3
"This is a perfect side charge; the battle is already decided." Laine stood on the city wall, speaking softly.
Francois nodded silently.
Attacked on both sides and unable to win after a long battle, Casvan's army finally collapsed.
"The Lady's protection is lost!" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"Help!!"
"We need reinforcements! We need reinforcements!"
"Lady! Please grant us strength!"
The Peasant Infantry Corp from the Emperor's assault on the right wing quickly collapsed, and the defeated troops rapidly spread to the central army and left wing. Despite the knights' attempts to save the day, it was already beyond help. As the Peasant Infantry Corp and soldiers massively collapsed, the Ranger Knights also got swept up by the tide of defeat, loudly praying to the Lake Fairy for courage and strength.
However, their Goddess never favors the defeated; only the devout and strong-willed knights can earn her fleeting glance. Naturally, the shaken and collapsing Ranger Knights had no qualification to win the Goddess's favor.
By nine thirty in the morning, Brittania was already in a complete disadvantage,
At the time, the army was in full collapse, and only a few Kingdom Knights protected Duke of Paragon Casvan, as Count Karnel, the Deputy General, urgently shouted: "Duke! The war is lost! You must escape, we will cover you!"
"Damn it! Just give me one more hour, just one hour, I can surely defeat Umberto Prince-Elector and the Imperial Army!" Casvan shouted unwillingly.
So close, the front two arrays of the Imperial Array had already collapsed, and only the third array personally led by Umberto Prince-Elector was still holding on. If it hadn't been for the steam tank entering the battlefield during its long movement, Casvan and his knights would have claimed victory.
Even after the steam tank entered the battlefield, Casvan still used the knights' numerical advantage to pressure the Empire. As long as Carl Franz failed to lead the Imperial Knights in a timely reinforcement, he could still defeat the Imperial Army.
But this is what happened; now his army is defeated!
With the defeat like a landslide, Casvan knew he couldn't be reckless; he must retreat: "Alright! Pass my order: the army retreats along the mountain path! Let the soldiers and Ranger Knights cover the rear! Anyone utterly unable to continue fighting is allowed to surrender!"
"Yes!" The situation had decayed beyond recovery; out of a fifteen thousand strong army, less than two thousand could still heed command. Ranger Knights scattered in escape; all over the mountainside were Peasant Infantry kneeling in surrender, while the Imperial Army launched a proud counterattack. Carl Franz led his Rick Guard and Half-Griffin Knights to sweep all directions; the Emperor's valor truly surprised Casvan because, compared to Brittania's Knight King, the Emperor of the Empire usually excelled more in politics, yet seemed inferior in personal martial prowess and military ability.
The Emperor of the Empire changed every twenty to fifty years, whereas Brittania? Founded for a thousand years, Richard is the ninth Knight King.
Casvan still had a backup plan; he had previously dispatched two Infantry Battalions and fifty knights to occupy the retreat path, with still an army to support their withdrawal on the mountain path of Doomsday Mountain.
The Imperial Army was busy capturing prisoners, especially the ordinary Imperial Soldiers, as a knight's ransom could equal their annual pay. A throng of defeated troops and knights fleeing everywhere provided cover for Casvan and the few Kingdom Knights, as Casvan led the knights to retreat along the mountain path of Doomsday Mountain.
The Duke did not dare let the Pegasus fly, knowing his Pegasus wouldn't be a match for Death's Claw.
"Your Majesty! Casvan is escaping! We can't let him get away!" noticed Imperial General Kurt Heilberg of Casvan's attempt to flee.
"Rick Guard, come with me!" Carl Franz was covered in human blood, yet the Emperor was not overly excited about the victory. Human civil war victory is nothing to boast about; the Emperor calmly said, "He won't run far; I have already arranged manpower."
"Manpower? We have other reinforcements?" Heilberg asked curiously: "All the troops we brought from Brunswick are already here."
"Yes." Carl Franz calmly replied, "They will help us block Casvan."
"May I ask, Your Majesty, they? Who are they?"
"They are..."
