Warhammer Divine Throne-Chapter 633 - 279, Annual Leave at the Winery (Part 3)
"What, what is that?" Laine widened his eyes; how could such a foul beast appear at his vineyard during the Winter Festival?
"That's a Sphinx Beast." Dark Elf Ollica reacted immediately: "It shouldn't be here, Master; it should be active in the Nikohara Desert!"
"Damn!" Laine saw the creature wreaking havoc in his vineyard; it grabbed the corpse of the vineyard steward with its pincers and devoured it, burping loudly before searching for its next prey.
Out for the festival, Laine hadn't worn his Spiritual Power Armor nor had he brought his Warhammer today!
"Ollica! Protect Mogiana and Amelia!" Laine reached behind him: "I'll handle this foul beast!"
"Clang~" Laine hadn't brought his Warhammer nor armor, but he always carried the Goddess of Revenge with him.
The Goddess of Revenge, burning with white flames, was unsheathed, and Laine leaped directly from the window. In the howling cold wind and snow-filled sky, the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy landed lightly on the ground. He raised his sword and shouted at the beast: "Come here, Sphinx, this is not a place where you can go wild!"
"Roar~ whoop~!!!" The Sphinx Beast saw another human appear and let out a tremendous roar.
Laine's shout drew not just the beast before him but also the Holy Grail Knights stationed within the vineyard. The lights of the annex almost immediately lit up, and the Holy Grail Knights were hastily responding and donning their equipment, never showing a hint of slack even in the restful holiday of the Winter Festival.
The Sphinx Beast flickered its enormous wings and lunged directly at Laine. Its hands were two massive pincers, and seeing Laine daringly charging, the human face of the Sphinx Beast sported a bloodthirsty, savage grin. The pincers thrust forward abruptly, looking to shear Laine's body.
Just like it had devoured that human.
"Hah!" Laine had long seen through the beast's intentions. He tightly gripped the sword hilt with both hands; the Goddess of Revenge radiated a faint blue glow on the cold night. Almost at the moment the pincers reached, the Goddess of Revenge's blade descended.
"Bang!" Silver-white sparks and fierce friction sounds simultaneously appeared on the Sphinx Beast's pincers. Accompanied by the beast's anguished cries, an entire length of pincers was severed by Laine's sword, yellow blood spraying from the wound; the beast screeched in pain, retreating continuously.
Its assault was broken, and Laine pursued his advantage, his steps unceasing as he charged at the Sphinx.
Upstairs at the wine castle, Mogiana came to the window with Amelia supporting her. The Lake God Witch's face was full of shock: "Undead Sphinx, how could it appear here?"
The longsword at Amelia's waist was trembling incessantly; the young maid noticed the anomaly with her sword but pretended nothing happened: "Undead Sphinx?"
"It's a semi-biological, semi-metallic construct from the Nikohara Desert, a war beast of the Ancient Tomb King. But… how could it be here?" Mogiana couldn't suppress her surprise.
Dark Elf Ollica furrowed her brows slightly; she too recognized the creature. Ollica first noticed Mogiana's unstable stance, then looked at Amelia and the sword trembling at her waist.
She started chanting, summoning her Magic Staff.
Through the windowsill, the Sphinx Beast was battling fiercely with Laine. Its body, covered in metal and filled with flesh, was harder than steel, but this posed no difficulty for Laine. The Goddess of Revenge swung, easily cutting through the solid metal. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Roar~" The Sphinx Beast suffered losses repeatedly, but its body was exceedingly sturdy. The Goddess of Revenge could cleave its shell but struggled to pierce deeper. It retreated slightly, then suddenly lunged forward.
The biting cold wind blinded Laine momentarily, so he immediately rolled aside to dodge, forcing the Sphinx Beast into a miss, trampling a patch of grapevines.
"For the Lady!" The Holy Grail Knights appeared, fully armed, raising sword and shield, enclosing the Sphinx Beast for a siege.
The foul beast sensed the dire situation. It could discern that the humans surrounding it were all formidable, and the human before had fought for long but couldn't be defeated, let alone so many Holy Grail Knights.
Beset by the continuous assaults from the Holy Grail Knights, the beast fell into a disadvantage. The undead Sphinx Beast lowered its head and roared furiously; its human face opened wide, spewing a large spray of blue flames.
The Holy Grail Knights raised shields to block; the blue flames could not breach the Lake Fairy's blessing.
The beast seized the opportunity to unfold its wings suddenly, flapping them to take to the sky. The beast let out furious cries from above, spewing blue flames that covered an entire vineyard in a blink, but luckily, due to the abundant snow, the flames didn't spread.
"Damn!" Laine's expression shifted slightly; the beast flew directly towards the wine castle!
A top the wine castle, Mogiana and Amelia's expressions changed too. The young maid quickly supported the Lake God Witch: "Her Highness Mogiana, the Sphinx Beast is coming our way, let's retreat for now!"
"Damn it!" Mogiana instinctively wanted to harness her magic power, but her body was empty; only the Spirit Rune carved by Laine contained a trace of his leftover spiritual energy.
