Inside a certain residence in Kulona.

A tall figure in a black robe was using his magic to watch every move within the Kulona Palace.

Under the black robe, there was nothing but ghastly white bones, with only a few pieces of decayed flesh stuck between the joints; the figure in the robe was essentially a rotting corpse.

He was skillfully observing every move within the Kulona Palace, deftly bypassing the restrictions and seals set up by the Lake God Prophets, thus able to spy on the duel outcome between the White Wolf Knight and the Holy Grail Knight.

However, that was all he could do; the black-robed man knew that if he pushed further, the Lake Goddess Saintess and the Lake God Prophets guarding the palace would immediately sense his presence.

The black-robed man's undead magic was extraordinary, his mastery of magic surpassed the knowledge and limits of mortal world wizards, and his profound mana, transcending thousands of years, could easily break the palace's protection. However, like most wizards, the black-robed man was not skilled in close combat; once besieged by the Holy Grail Knights, even he would find it difficult to escape.

"Ah, it's the first divine chosen of that wench, and her divine chosen champion." The black-robed man's decayed and withered throat emitted a rotten mist, and not far from him lay the corpse of a Brittania male noble, his face crawling with cockroaches and flies.

"This makes things quite difficult; I cannot fight both the Lake God Witch and the divine chosen champion at the same time." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"I need another way." The black-robed man took out a piece of rotten parchment.

On this day, the headquarters of the Merciful Goddess Church in Kulona made an earth-shattering discovery; a secretary, while organizing an enormous amount of ancient documents, suddenly stumbled upon the recipe for a special medicine for malaria that had been lost for hundreds of years.

......

Kulona, Holy Grail Cathedral, inner courtyard.

The early spring flowers were blooming fully, thanks to the divine power of the Lake Fairy, filling the entire courtyard with vibrant blossoms, creating an awe-inspiring beauty.

The Lake God Witch wore a plain-colored princess long dress with a lace-outlined neckline. Her jade-like fingers brushed over a blooming iris: "You did well, Laine, you have shown the knights beyond the mountains our strength."

"Your Highness, it is my honor, but the Kingdom cannot always pin its hopes on me alone." Laine, seemingly indifferent to the beautiful scenery, walked through the lovely courtyard towards the arranged room.

"You seem dissatisfied with me accommodating you here?" Mogiana suddenly remarked, looking at Laine's back.

"Saying I'm dissatisfied would be a lie; the living conditions here are no less than those of the King, with every service available. I doubt even His Majesty Richard could arrange for two Lake Goddess Saintesses to attend to my daily needs." Laine turned around, smiling at the beautiful Lake God Witch: "But to say I'm very pleased would also be a lie; I'd still prefer to be with Mr. Francois and my maid."

"All lies, then what's your truth?" Mogiana moved behind Laine, her verdant eyes fixated on his face, as if discerning the truth in his words.

"The truth is I'm both satisfied and unsatisfied. I'm delighted with the treatment you've given me, but I earnestly hope, Your Highness, you could loosen the reins just a little? I would be utterly grateful." Laine said half-jokingly.

Mogiana moved in front of Laine, placing her hand on his chest: "No, I can only tell you, I can arrange whatever you need, but during this period, you must reside here."

"Alright, negotiation failed."

After bidding farewell to Mogiana, Laine opened the door to his room. It was still early, around three or four in the afternoon, not too late. He was staying in a luxurious suite equipped with every conceivable amenity. The only thing that irked him was the constant presence of two Lake God Prophets monitoring him; they didn't restrict Laine's freedom of movement but would follow him around.

After a while, seemingly done with her tasks, Mogiana entered without knocking, carrying some documents: "Laine? I have some matters to discuss with you."

"Alright." Laine had changed back into his original noble attire, seeing this, Mogiana sat beside him. The Lake God Witch swapped her white soft boots for a pair of white stiletto heels, adjusted her skirt, revealing a pair of delicate feet clad in flesh-colored stockings. She placed a thick stack of documents in front of Laine: "Laine, I dispatched the Holy Grail Knights to collect the remains of the deceased Holy Grail Knights and to reinter them at the Holy Grail Cathedral, but some remains near Musillon have vanished without a trace."

"Approximately how many?" Laine inquired while scanning the map of Musillon.

"Twelve." Mogiana's expression brimmed with loathing and anger: "It's only in the Cursed Lands, where both the Lady and we are powerless, that the Red Duke could commit such an abominable deed."

Just as the Lake Fairy mentioned, even her divine power couldn't breach Musillon's high walls, and only in that cursed land could an undead mage desecrate the Holy Grail Knights' tombs at will.

"Even in such a cursed land, an undead mage capable of desecrating the Holy Grail Knights' graves and turning them into Black Chalice Knights must be unimaginably powerful. My Highness, do you know what I'm reminded of?" Laine said, examining the Duchy of Connaught map, marking the remaining four baronies in the Cursed Lands as well as Musillon, the Cursed City at the river's mouth: "I'm reminded of the curse on you and... the attack you suffered."
