VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne-Chapter 151: Make like a Tree, and Leave
While those who wanted to steal the magical ’Pet’ from the Demon woman focused all of their attacks on her, more wickedly minded individuals amongst the crowds began to send attacks towards the adorable fluff ball.
An arrow streaked through the air, its shaft crackling with lightning that increased its speed and would increase its damage. That is, if it actually landed.
A black tower shield covered in morbid and gothic designs immediately slammed down in front of the fox, letting the arrow crack helplessly off of the wall of steel. However, just at the same time, one patient assassin took that as his opening.
He had been watching and waiting, using his stealth skill to avoid the chaos and help his party, as well as pilfer some goodies from amongst the heavy crowds. That was the best part about these types of brawls. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Even if someone did notice something was missing, how would they ever know who took it?
As soon as the Demoness became distracted with the arrow, he quickly tossed the dagger he had been holding in waiting. It sailed through the air with barely a whistle, the glint of its blade hidden by the purple substance that coated it. A wicked poison that he had brewed himself after practising alchemy.
The dagger flew true, bypassing the Demon’s defences and closing in on the fox. By pure happenstance it turned its head, just in time for it to see the blade hurtling towards it. But the assassin didn’t worry.
Even if the little pest managed to move out of the way enough to avoid a fatal strike, a scratch is all he needed. However even if he had worried about it, which he did not, it would have been completely pointless.
The idiotic fox watched with big eyes as the knife flew towards its chest, and didn’t even bother to move. A wicked smirk danced across the Assassin’s lips as the poisoned dagger sunk into the foxes fur... and then bounced harmlessly off its skin before clattering uselessly to the ground.
His face fell into despair and eyes widened with disbelief. He could have sworn that, at that very moment, the fox looked directly at him and smirked smugly. But he never got a chance to confirm it, as the very next moment was when a fist smashed into his face.
Thankfully, as to not cause any issues for the fist and to eagerly comply with its very direct request of his death, his skull exploded like a watermelon.
As the assassin’s body manifested into reality, unable to hold his stealth skill in death, Belladonna dragged her hands and feet across the ground as she skidded to a halt. Lightning crackled around her body, even more than the superficial bolts that used to surround her.
It actually struck the metal and earth around her, seeking to be grounded. Where her hands had dug into the ground, there was a trail of flora with smouldering holes shot through them, where mini lightning bolts had forced their way through.
The crimson of her eyes had been replaced by a startling, electric blue, as not only did her body speed up but the world around her seemed to slow before her very eyes. Every moment became a crawl, as if everyone was forced to move through molasses.
This was the difference between a Tier 1 and a Tier 2 source. Even a simple infusion was massively increased in power and effectiveness.
Unfortunately, since she was moving at an increased speed, her energy was rapidly burning out. Keeping in time with the speed of her body and not the speed of the world. In reality, she might even only last thirty seconds like this.
But that was plenty of time to spare.
Moving in a flash, Belladonna darted through the crowds, weaving and contorting her body through the maze that was made out of bodies and blades, as she locked her eyes on her next target.
A small, blue butterfly fluttered softly in the air. Twinkling fairy dust sprinkled from its wings with every movement.
She darted over to the butterfly, appearing in front of it like a phantom as a crack of thunder followed closely on her tail. But by the time that arrived, her fist was already launching forwards.
Her fist sailed through the butterfly without resistance, as it was nothing but an illusion. Yet blood still sprayed from where her fist moved, as what was behind the butterfly was real, just hidden from view.
Another stealth type player shimmered into view, but the lightning covered Belladonna had already zipped away before his body even hit the ground. Already off to hunt another butterfly.
These butterflies were simple illusions, cast by the wonderful Vestra Le Fey. They didn’t actually do anything, not on their own. But they were much more useful when she used them in tandem with her [Peer the Veil] spell.
That was a spell that she had gained along with her Source and which allowed her to see through certain illusions that which did not want to be seen. Such as someone hiding behind a stealth skill, most of which were illusionary at their core.
With Vestra using [Peer the Veil] while seated comfortably atop Figg the Triceratops, all Belladonna had to do was find the butterflies and smash the assassins hidden behind them.
All people were able to see was a streak of lightning roaring past them, before something exploded into a red mist and a body manifested out of thin air.
A few of the smarter assassins quickly picked up on the purpose of the butterflies floating around them and disabled their stealth skills, which made them lose the mark. However, it forced them instead to rely on actual talent in stealth to disappear amongst the crowds.
Once the crowd was thinned out enough, and the true dangers were either eliminated or banished, Belladonna raced over to Lilith and screeched to a halt in front of her. Letting her infusion drop, she scooped up the fluffy white fox that was undoubtedly her brother, somehow.
"Sorry to interrupt your date, but I think it’s about time we moved onto the main event, don’t you?" She said with a wide, mischievous smile.
"Well well, look who’s back! I should have known this would drag you out no matter what. If you are going to carry my little snowball, then I can make us a path through and we can make a run for it." Lilith suggested, already preparing herself to charge through the crowds that were still fighting amongst each other.
"Actually," Belladonna interrupted, her mischievous smile spreading even wider, "I managed to snag us a ride."
