VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne-Chapter 138: The Training Room
Behind the very obviously placed fake wall that was actually a door, there was yet another door. This one was heavily reinforced and entirely made of the same alloy that they used to craft the interplanetary space shuttles.
Which meant it was incredibly resistant to heat, so it could survive re-entry, and even more resistant to bludgeoning, slashing and piercing.
There was no handle, no colossal wheel to turn like it was a bank vault. There was just a square door with a small, black square panel on it.
Percy stepped forwards, placing his hand on the panel and allowing it to scan his hand print, before it switched itself to a keypad with a high pitched beep. His fingers flew as he typed in the correct code, a sequence of nearly twenty numbers, and when the final number had been inputted the door let out a heavy, reassuring clunk before slowly swinging open.
{Welcome, Percival. Your protection has been guaranteed.}
Percy rolled his eyes slightly as his full name echoed from hidden speakers and looked over at Valerie with a slight smirk,
"You know, If I had put in the panic code then it would have blasted you into oblivion."
"Well then, I am ever so grateful that you didn’t." She replied with a warm smile, as if they weren’t talking about dying and instead were talking about something as simple as who does the dishes.
She rolled past him, patting his leg in thanks for not getting her killed, as she moved into the bunker.
The bunker itself was, without saying, bigger than anything Valerie owned. Because of course it was, why wouldn’t it be? Everything had to be bigger, otherwise how else would you know they were rich?
With thick metal floors and walls, it was not as fancy and aesthetically pleasing as the humble cabin above them, but it was definitely much more secure. It even had another door that led to a small runway that was most likely used as an escape or for rescue.
"Hmm, Why am I not surprised that you have a special bunker here. Let me guess, in case of peasant revolt?" She said with a laugh, inspecting the facilities at hand. There was the basics; such as entertainment systems, bathrooms, and a food synthesiser.
While that last one might have been dire to the rich this bunker was designed for, to Valerie it was perfectly normal, although she would find out that even their cheapest synth food was of a much higher quality than she was used to.
"Yes and no. Most people in my families circle have one. They started getting designed for environmental disaster and world wars. Then after that it was your suggestion, and now its a mix of all of the above. Plus a little bit of wealth flaunting.
You wouldn’t believe the type of things people brag about having in their bunkers. If someone wanted, they could live down here for months, perhaps even years. Actually, I’m pretty sure I know someone who actually hired a family to live in his bunker and act as his live in servants if and when the apocalypse finally comes."
Valerie nodded softly, wheeling herself up to the master bed and leaning forwards so she could rest her head on it, only to let out a satisfied groan as it sank into the mattress to just the right level.
"I can see why. If you offered me that deal, I’d happily take it. This place is better than where I’m living, plus I’m already basically a servant anyways. Really... it would be an upgrade for me."
Percy gave another guilt filled smile as he watched her for a few seconds, staying silent as he leaned on the doorframe with his arms crossed. He tapped his fingers against his arm a few times, before he stood up straight and clapped his hands loudly.
"Alright, that’s it for the tour! We can use the runway as a training range. Plenty of space, and you’re not going to break anything. Plus on the rare case that my parents do turn up, we can just hide down here.
Pretty perfect, right?"
Valerie laughed and nodded, "Couldn’t be more perfect. I guess we should get the bags moved in, huh?"
"Nope!" Percy said with a shake of his head, strolling over to her and taking the black case from her before tossing it onto the bed, "First I wanna see a proper demonstration of those skills. More than just your little party trick. I want to see some real magic!"
He scooted behind her, grabbed hold of her chair and quickly wheeled her to the runway.
"Okay just... take a step back, will you?" She said with an unrestrained, giddy smile once they were in their practice range. She pushed him back lightly and waited until there was plenty of room for her to explode without harm.
Only then did she focus on the stretch of open space in front of her before closing her eyes. She reached out with her senses, tugging at the small specks of ambient mana surrounding her.
Compared to Dawd, which had mana every where and you could breathe like refreshing morning air, the lack of mana in this world was like you were suffocating. Just enough to keep you going, barely, but so little that it was a struggle to get even close to a proper lungful.
Nevertheless, she drew it in bit by bit, until it started to become noticeable. Even without a mana lobe to detect the details of it, Percy could feel the tangible shift of the mana density in the air, creating a slightly oppressive air that felt completely alien in their world.
Valerie held her hands in front of her chest, slowly and carefully moving through intricate and practiced hand movements, each one increasing the otherworldly pressure.
""Navash Ivin Ro’kum..." At Valerie’s mutters, Small flickers of flames suddenly flared to life on her palms and quickly spread across her outstretched fingers, causing Percy’s eyes to widen in awe. A strange smile spreading across his lips, as he did his best to remain silent.
Valerie opened her eyes, ignoring her combusted hands and instead focused on the furthest point ahead of her, using it as her target. Once she was sure she had it, her eyes narrowed and she thrust her hands forwards, shouting the final word of the spell.
"Sagni!"
