Vows and Bullets-Chapter 38: Selene (Part 2)
[Music Recommendation: "Enemy" by Imagine Dragons - Arcane, League of Legends OST]
The remaining three men walked carefully towards my position. It had been easy for them to figure it out after I shot the arrows, but that’s fine. I could still subdue them. It’s a good thing I managed to knock the others unconscious. For those that still managed to be conscious, well, unluckily for them, they still wouldn’t be able to move and continue feeling the pain from their wounds.
After a few seconds passed, they started shooting in my direction. I hid the bow at my back and switched to my daggers again. Then, I ran towards the path and hid towards the first left turn. They followed me, but since there were two paths, they weren’t sure where I had gone. They divided themselves and checked both sides—just what I was waiting for.
SLASH! SLASH!
I disabled one of them in an instant. The other two noticed me and started shooting at me. There were no boxes or shields I could use, so I used their comrade instead. They didn’t even hesitate to shoot him. How incredibly evil of them.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
They shot him mercilessly, trying to kill me or catch a portion of my body but to no avail. They only killed their comrade in vain.
When the firing stopped—it would have to eventually since they needed to reload their guns—I took the chance and threw the dead body of their comrade at them.
Crouching down, I swiftly moved to their back and stabbed them, aiming for their hearts. I only needed to keep a few of them alive for evidence, testimony, and interrogation purposes. Since they were so wicked themselves, they should join the comrade they had just killed in hell. They could all rot there and kill each other forever.
I could have slashed their throats to give them instant death, but I didn’t. I wanted them to suffer in the last moments of their lives.
And so, they fell down on their knees with deep red blood flowing from their bodies. They tried to shoot me again, but I kicked the guns out of their hands and punched their faces.
"W-who... are you?" one of them asked.
Standing tall, I looked down at them and answered in a menacing tone.
"I’m... your deadly nightmare."
Soon enough, their breaths failed them, and they died with their eyes still open.
"Fae, notify the police."
"Notifying the nearest the station... Notification sent."
"Good."
I went back to the others and tied them all up while their wounds continued to bleed, not even being careful when tying them. I deliberately did that as revenge for trying to harm an innocent child.
Then, I went back to the little girl. It’s a good thing she remained obedient to my words. I lifted her up from the ground and patted the dust off of her dress. Her tiny body shook terribly, and her eyes bawled in tears.
"It’s okay. You’re safe now," I tried to comfort her.
"Hu-hu-hu-hu..." she softly sobbed, unable to utter anything.
Reaching out to her hand, I held it tight.
"Come, let’s get you home."
She nodded over and over and tried to wipe her tears. After that, I took her outside the alley and towards the shop where Agent Helios and I were a moment ago.
"See that pretty shop over there?" I asked, pointing at the clothes shop.
"Y-Yes... sniff."
"Run towards there and ask for help. A pretty noona (older sister) and a handsome hyung (older brother) will help you and bring you back to your parents, okay?"
"C-can’t you bring me b-back?"
"I’m afraid unnie can’t go there looking like this," I replied, pointing at the few traces of blood on my battle suit. "The friendly staff and other customers will get scared."
"B-but you helped me, that’s why."
"It’s okay. Don’t be afraid. Just go over there. I’ll watch you from afar until they help you and you safely get back home."
"P-promise? Sniff..."
"Yes, I promise," I smiled at her despite the mask on my face.
Gathering her courage, she ran to the other side of the road and towards the shop I mentioned. I tapped my watch on the traffic post, and they all turned green, making a safe passage for the child. As promised, I watched her until she got inside. After that, I went back to the alley, jumped on the roofs, towards the back of the shop, and to the window I used to get outside.
I checked my watch for the time. To my surprise, I finished it faster than anticipated. All that chaos only took fifteen minutes—no more, no less. Still, for someone that was supposed to be merely trying out clothes, that was a LOT of time. Agent Helios would surely nag me for this.
At last, I’m back at the shop’s VIP dressing room. As expected, Agent Helios shot glares at me as soon as I came in. He was sitting on a chair with his arms crossed and his legs impatiently shaking on the floor.
I tried to ignore his death glare and quickly undressed to change into the dress I was wearing earlier. I took my bag from beside him without uttering a single word and got some wet wipes to clean my hands.
"Agent Selene," Agent Helios called me sternly. "I believe we have a lot of things to discuss."
"Ah, he-he. Yes, but... let’s do that later, okay?"
"Definitely. You’re not getting away with this."
"Yes, yes, I know."
"Are you wounded?" he asked and stood up from his seat.
He then grabbed my shoulder and turned me around, checking every spot in my body—all while I was only wearing a thin camisole and tight shorts!
"Hey! You’re staring too much!" I snapped at him, careful not to raise my voice too loud. For some reason, I tried to cover my chest and cross my legs. After all, what I was wearing was still a bit... revealing. "I’m not wounded. I’m the Top 2 Agent, so there’s no way I would get wounded from a simple mission."
"Make sure you don’t because we really can’t afford a single scratch on your body. Remember that the public already knows who we are, and they would certainly talk if any of them spotted even a light bruise on you. Our romantic act would collapse instantly, replaced with a story of how I’m abusing you or anything along those lines."
"Yes, SIR. Now let me go. I’m changing."
"Ugh. You reek of blood."
I sniffed myself and my hair. Ugh. I do smell like blood. It was faint but still... Hmm, what should I do?
Agent Helios took a perfume bottle from my bag and sprayed it on me—something I didn’t know was there. Then, I finally put on my clothes and fixed my hair a little. For my battle suit, I folded it and placed it inside a specialized garment bag from Mythos, which I then tucked at the bottom of my luxurious bag.
"Alright. I think I’m good."
I twirled around, showing it to him.
"Do I still have some blood somewhere?"
Sighing, Agent Helios shook his head.
"Okay, good."
I reached out to the doorknob to open it when I suddenly remembered something.
"Right... They won’t buy it if we say I just changed clothes for fifteen minutes."
Turning back to Agent Helios, I grabbed him by his tie and kissed his lips. I firmly pressed mine on his to smudge some lipstick, but...
"Huh? Why won’t it smudge?"
While I wondered about that, Agent Helios’ glaring eyes suddenly softened as if all his anger faded away. He must have been too surprised.
"What? I just thought that maybe—"
"Haaaah..." he sighed deeply. "That’s because your lipstick is probably smudge-proof. If you want it to stick..."
"Huh?"
He then leaned closer to me and lifted my chin.
"You have to moisturize it."
After that, he kissed me back.
And it wasn’t a greeting kiss, or casual, or sweet—it was a wild kiss!
