Chapter 79: Chapter 79- Forbidden Monarch art

Grey decided to postpone his departure until he was absolutely ready. The Dead Sea was not a place where one could rely on luck alone. He wanted to refine more poison and properly assimilate the Forbidden Monarch Art before leaving.

Only after making this decision did he finally sit down.

Grey sat cross-legged and steadied his breathing. Taking out the jade slip, he reviewed the cultivation method one last time to ensure there were no mistakes. Once he was certain, he began to breathe according to the method recorded within it.

The moment he did, a cold and unpleasant energy surged toward him.

Grey felt that chilling energy forcefully fuse into his body. His body involuntarily shuddered as freezing air seeped beneath his skin and flowed into his bloodstreams. The cold was sharp and invasive, spreading rapidly through his limbs.

However, Grey did not panic.

This reaction was normal.

After enduring the initial discomfort, he began circulating the cold energy within his body, guiding it along the same paths his spirit energy usually traveled. As the cold energy passed through those meridians, it brushed against his spirit energy.

Yet there was no reaction.

It was as if his spirit energy could not be bothered with the foreign cold energy at all. The two energies coexisted without conflict, completely ignoring one another.

With his spirit energy remaining indifferent, Grey completed one full circulation throughout his body. When the cycle ended, he felt a faint chill surface deep within his core.

’This is the first sign of success!’

Encouraged, Grey continued circulating the cold energy again and again. With each completed circulation, the cold energy became more pronounced and increasingly chilling. What had once been faint gradually turned heavy and oppressive.

Unconsciously, Grey exhaled.

A thin strand of white mist drifted out of his mouth and lingered in the air. While the mist itself was faint, the dense cold aura surrounding it was shocking.

Grey could barely feel the cold anymore. His body had already begun adapting to the chilling energy. His fair and delicate skin slowly turned paler, and his detached gray eyes gained a faint frostiness.

After one hundred full circulations, the cold energy seeping into his body suddenly began to change.

Instead of dispersing, it started condensing near his spirit energy.

The cold energy gathered tighter and tighter until it formed a small blue core. The moment it stabilized, a chilling coldness radiated from it, spreading throughout Grey’s body and reaching every corner of his flesh and bones.

As soon as the cold core was formed, Grey immediately knew...

He had reached the first level of the Forbidden Monarch Art.

After breaking through, Grey did not continue cultivating immediately. Instead, he rested for a few minutes, allowing his body to stabilize. Although his spirit energy did not appear affected by the cold energy, his physical body was clearly struggling to fully assimilate it.

If he continued cultivating recklessly, his body could be placed in danger.

Since he was resting, Grey decided to delve deeper into the origins of the Forbidden Monarch Art.

The Forbidden Monarch Art was created by a practitioner who cultivated yin energy. After God descended, corrosive substance corroded all things, and the balance of energy in the world fell into chaos.

Yin energy shared certain similarities with corrosive substance. Under its influence, yin energy became even colder and more extreme. It could only be found in extremely cold regions saturated with dense corrosive substance, areas scorched by God’s blinding radiance.

According to the jade slip, the yin practitioner was once flying high above the land when he was suddenly targeted and locked onto by a powerful and bizarre existence. He fought with all his strength, but the existence was far too strong. Each time, he could only barely escape.

During one such escape, he stumbled upon a heavily corroded zone filled with dense yin energy. The corrosive substance there was even more concentrated. For reasons unknown, the bizarre existence did not dare approach the zone, lingering at a distance instead.

Seeing this, an idea formed in the yin practitioner’s mind. He entered the corroded zone to escape pursuit. Despite the unbearable cold, he hid there for several weeks until the divine sense locked onto him finally withdrew.

Overjoyed, he attempted to leave.

To his horror, he discovered that he could not.

Because the yin energy was overwhelmingly dense and spirit energy was extremely thin, a cold core had unknowingly formed beside his spirit energy. That cold core continued absorbing yin energy, and soon his physique began to change.

His skin turned pale.

His eyes became indifferent and cold.

He developed an unnatural sense of comfort within the dense yin energy.

By the time he realized these subtle yet drastic changes, it was already too late. His cold core had completely absorbed his spirit energy, forcing him to cultivate yin energy instead.

With no other choice, he created a cultivation technique that specialized in cultivating yin energy. He named it the Forbidden Monarch Art.

This art could be practiced alongside the Sky Mist Art. Although it had not existed for very long, it was still widely unknown. Even so, its power was undeniable.

For someone beginning cultivation, the Forbidden Monarch Art was an attractive choice, as it allowed rapid breakthroughs. However, once a cultivator switched to yin energy, they would be forced to cultivate it for the rest of their life, unless they destroyed their cultivation base and started over.

Even then, the risks were enormous.

Even high-level cultivators were wary of yin energy, as it caused changes that were difficult to reverse. Non-cultivators who cultivated yin energy would undergo even more profound transformations.

Spirit energy was the opposite of yin. Like yang, it was warm, flowing, and life-giving. Although it had mutated due to corrosive substance, it still served as a balancing force.

Having entered the first level of the Forbidden Monarch Art, Grey decided to practice the techniques that came with it. That was the main reason he cultivated it in the first place.

After studying the jade slip carefully, Grey noticed several unanswered questions. Who was the original practitioner? Where was the corroded zone now? Was the practitioner human? How long ago had this happened?

None of it was explained. The jade slip only provided a rough outline.

In the end, Grey stopped pondering and focused on the techniques.

The most basic technique was called Forbidden Stream.

By releasing a dense cold aura, the practitioner could temporarily interfere with the spirit energy in an opponent’s body. Through this, one could influence both their own spirit energy and the opponent’s to a limited degree.

Grey immediately saw its value.

If used alongside Dragon Eyes, which affected a person’s spirit, he could influence both the opponent’s spirit and spirit energy at the same time.

Since he was only at the first level, Grey could not study more complex techniques. He focused entirely on mastering Forbidden Stream before circulating the cold energy again.

By the end of the day, Grey had completely mastered the technique.

A cold glint appeared in his eyes as frosty energy spread through the surroundings. The frosty aura clung to the spirit energy in the air, visibly altering it. Satisfied, Grey inhaled deeply and drew the cold energy back into his body.

He then circulated the Sky Mist Art to rebalance the yin and spirit energy within him.

After reaching the first level, Grey turned his attention to refinement. He would soon be entering the Dead Sea, where corrosive substance was far denser than on land.

His poison might not be very effective in water, so he decided to enhance its corrosive properties.

Taking out the ingredients he had gathered earlier, Grey began mixing them carefully.

"Liver of Firephantom... Willow Root Extract... Dyed Morning Glow Weed... Blue Silver Grass..."

He mixed them in a ratio of 2:1:1:3.

As the ingredients combined, Grey felt the corrosive substance surge violently. Despite the magic ship’s anti-corrosion scattering array, corrosive substance still began gushing out.

Without hesitation, Grey deactivated the array.

In an instant, corrosive substance flooded the magic ship.

Grey felt the corrosive substance within his body spike dramatically, but before it could cause harm, it was absorbed by his shadow. He gave it a brief, peculiar glance before continuing.

A few minutes later, the pill took shape.

It was completely black, with faint spots of gray and brown.

Dense corrosive substance filled the ship, making the air heavy and oppressive. The enchanted wood of the magic ship even began to corrode. Without delay, Grey stored the pill away.

Not daring to test it aboard the ship, Grey stepped outside. With a small gesture, the magic ship shrank and disappeared.

He walked several blocks away from the port before stopping. It was the dead of night, and few people were on the streets. Those who sensed the dangerous fluctuations from his body instinctively kept their distance.

Once the port was clear, Grey casually tossed the small black pill into the pitch-black water.

After a few seconds, the water bubbled, but nothing happened.

Because the Dead Sea was already saturated with corrosive substance, the poison pill seemed ineffective.

Disappointed, Grey shook his head and left.

Moments later, a massive bubble rose and burst. A brown, toothed swordfish floated to the surface, dead. Its body was completely permeated by corrosive substance, its sinister expression twisted in agony and disbelief.

Unfortunately, Grey was no longer there to see it.

Had he witnessed it, even he would have been shocked.
