Void Cultivation-Chapter 77- Seventh level strength
With him now forming his spirit sea, his perception and control of his spirit energy had become even better. The strength of a seventh-level Qi Accumulation expert was flowing through his veins right now.
Grey felt that if he were to fight against his former self who had just entered Sky Mist City, he would have a certain amount of control over the battle. The fight against the Devil’s Race cultivator might not even have gone the way it did if he had already been at the seventh level.
At most, the Devil’s Race cultivator would have lost more than just his storage bag. But even with all his strength, Grey felt that he was lacking in techniques. The number of techniques the Devil’s Race cultivator had displayed was far greater than his.
Grey felt that if he had given him the chance to display his full might, he would have been the one running away. He also noticed that although the Sky Mist Art did not grant any direct offensive advantage, it provided a strong suppressive force and was capable of changing the battlefield terrain to one’s liking.
He remembered Alice’s battle, where she used the fog from the Sky Mist Art to control her opponent’s movements and restrict his space. Although all these advantages would become less effective as one advanced further, to a Qi Accumulation expert, this could mean the difference between life and death.
After a long while of contemplation, Grey decided to hunt wanted criminals later in the night. Seeing that there was nothing else to do for now, he brought out the wine he had bought a few days ago and continued reading information from the jade slip.
By the time the grey clouds had turned black and the setting sun cast a red glow upon God’s hand, Grey had finished reading the information on the Devil’s Race.
A faint glint appeared in his eyes, but Grey suppressed it in the next moment. The information on the Devil’s Race also contained a great deal about humanity’s past. For example, which races were destroyed during the Burning Era, the bizarre existences that completely transformed entire races, and the dangerous territories no man dared to enter.
All of this information had been recorded only a few years after God descended, so although things might have changed, they likely had not changed too much.
He also learned of a corroded zone far larger than any other. In fact, it housed the strongest bizarre existence as its guardian.
There were also records of places in the Dead Sea that should be avoided, as well as rituals and practices that were forbidden, being considered acts of blasphemy toward God.
’Wait... blasphemy?’ Grey’s eyebrows were raised as he stared at the words.
Despite the drastic changes that descended thousands of years ago, there were still certain acts that must not be practiced, as they were seen as blasphemy toward God. Such acts were always punished by God himself.
Grey would have liked to know how God punished blasphemers, but the jade slip did not explain. It stated that even recording such punishments would itself be considered an act of blasphemy.
’So despite all the curses and swears directed at God with nothing happening, there are still acts He will not condone?’ Grey thought to himself.
’Of course, I’m forgetting that God doesn’t care about the opinions of mortals. He might not even hear such hateful words, much less be concerned by them. Only acts by cultivators that He finds offensive or threatening would provoke His anger. After all, we are cultivating against His will anyway...’
Grey’s lips curled into a faint smirk as his eyebrows twitched.
Grey was not afraid of God’s wrath. As much as he hated Him, he had never openly cursed God aloud. Still, the anger and disdain in his eyes could not be fully hidden.
Seeing the enormous hand that cast a shadow over every heart on the continent, Grey felt a hint of nostalgia for Earth. At least there, he had lived a normal life. He did not need to constantly watch his back, fearing an attack, or worse, a betrayal.
But he was unsure if he would ever be able to return to Earth. In the transmigration web novels and anime he had watched, the protagonist never returned home after arriving in another world.
’That’s assuming I’m even the protagonist.’
After reading a bit more, the sky fully darkened. Grey slowly walked out of his office while checking the wanted list that had been sent to his jade slip. After taking a quick glance, he put on his detective hat, readied his dagger and poison, and set off with no particular direction in mind.
At first, he had some difficulty controlling his speed, but he quickly adapted. Upon entering a dark and suspicious district, Grey put away his detective badge and activated a talisman he had purchased earlier to change his appearance.
Soon, his exquisite and extraordinary appearance became average. His hair color changed from grey to black, but it was a dull, lifeless black. In fact, the appearance he chose was so plain and unremarkable that no one would spare him a second glance. Even if they did, his features would be difficult to remember.
Under the cover of darkness, he moved stealthily through the streets. However, not a single person was in sight. Sky Mist City had placed a permanent curfew on its citizens. No movement was permitted after eleven o’clock at night.
Only cultivators from departments such as the Detective Agency were permitted to operate during these hours.
This measure was implemented to prevent collateral damage during clashes between Sky Mist City’s forces and criminals. For example, the night raid on the Secret Order had been conducted under the cover of darkness to distinguish members of the Secret Order from ordinary citizens.
Any civilian caught outside after curfew that night had been detained.
