Chapter 24: 24. Dragon (3)

The dragon roared again, sending molten gold coins flying through the air like deadly shrapnel.

With one eye blinded, it could finally admit it. It had underestimated this puny human in front of it and paid for her arrogance.

If it had not been arrogant, why was it still fighting on the ground?

Dragons were sovereigns of the sky; this alone was an advantage that allowed them to reign as an overlord when compared to ground-bound species

If it had fought in the sky from the very beginning, Licht would have never been able to touch it!

No more!

No more would it allow itself to be humiliated by this inferior species!

With a furious beat of its wings, the dragon rose, creating a vortex of wind that shook the treasure crypt.

The dragon ascended into the sky with power, pride and vengeance.

Down below this daunting sight, Licht slowly pushed himself to his feet.

Whilst this sight and a battered body may have left anybody else in despair, Licht could barely contain the smirk tugging at his lips.

"Perfect," he muttered.

"Let’s start stage two then, shall we?"

As he said this, Licht reached into his belt and pulled out a small remote, and with one press-

Beep. Beep. Beep.

A blinking red light activated as a signal shot toward the ceiling. High above, a discarded backpack on the crypt’s edge suddenly burst open—

BOOM!

Five spear-tipped hooks exploded outward, whistling through the air.

They soared upward before quickly snapping back down like a bunch of vicious vipers and slamming through the dragon’s wings.

ROAR!!!

The beast screeched in agony as the hooks embedded deep, the attached cords trailing down like metallic webs toward one source:

The beast screeched in agony as the hooks embedded deep, the attached cords trailing down like metallic webs toward one source:

Licht.

These weren’t ordinary harpoons.

They were Skybinders—a modern hybrid magic technology created with the very specific purpose to hunt flying demonic beasts.

And today, they hunted no ordinary beast,

They hunted a dragon.

The was a whistle cable locked tight, bound by mana and anchored to Licht’s position.

As the dragon flailed, Licht grabbed hold of the ropes with both hands.

He grinned.

Skybinder cables weren’t made of rope or steel.

They were forged from mana-conductive metal.

The material of the metal may be strange, but the one constant thing about metal is—

It conducts electricity. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

With that thought, A surge of thunder-attribute mana erupted from Licht’s core.

Lightning crackled across the wires, rushing up into the dragon’s flesh and paralysing it mid-flight.

The beast froze, spasming as arcs of raw lightning danced across its massive form.

Licht’s muscles bulged, his body surrounded in roaring thunder. With a primal roar, he pulled with everything he had.

The sky shattered as the dragon plummeted to the ground.

He wasn’t in the middle of God’s Descent anymore—he wasn’t godlike, and his power here was limited. But the dragon wasn’t at full strength either.

Its wings were torn, and its tail was completely severed.

And for dragons, balance in the air depended on that tail.

Without it, Dragons were less agile predators and more lumbering beasts of muscle and fire, struggling to keep steady in flight.

And that difference was all Licht needed.

One shove to send it over the edge

"AHHHH!!"

With lightning exploding from his limbs, Licht slammed the dragon into the crypt wall—

Then dragged it across the stone floor like a meteor crashing down to earth.

Boom!

Before the dust even cleared, he was already moving.

Only a blur of blue lightning remained in his place.

His sword, wreathed in thunder and rage, pierced forward, right through the dragon’s skull and straight toward the core.

The beast convulsed violently.

Though it roared and fought like a living being, this was no natural dragon.

It was a construct, created from the remnant of a dead dragon’s soul that had been bound to this place and its core.

The moment Licht’s sword touched the core, everything should have ended there. Unfortunately, life could never be so simple.

DING!

Your Trait「Infinite Copy Eyes (SSS)」and the Dragon’s Core are reacting...

The moment he heard the message, the ground beneath his feet vanished.

Everything turned black.

His body fell weightlessly—

Not down, but through.

And then—

Stillness.

Licht opened his eyes, and a familiar darkness surrounded him.

No sky. No floor. No sound.

Only endless, echoing emptiness.

It was a place he’d seen before.

A place he could never forget.

The Void.

Licht could feel his heartbeat spiking, becoming so fast and erratic that it was almost painful.

Not again...

Panic gripped Licht’s chest.

The last time he had entered the Void, he had drawn the attention of something—

Something so incomprehensibly powerful, so ancient and terrifying, that it was a miracle he’d survived at all.

If he was noticed by that kind of being again...

He didn’t want to think about it.

But the Void gave him no time.

The endless darkness began to tremble—

subtly at first, like a ripple on black water.

Then from the abyss, flames erupted—slow and seething, like the breath of a waking god.

From within this, a shape began to form.

This was no construct.

A dragon emerged.

This time around , it was no construct.

A true one.

Its visage towered in the Void, so massive it made the construct from earlier look like a lizard in comparison.

Its scales burned like white hot volcanic stone.

Its bloodshot eyes blazed over with wrath, becoming a furnace of ancient rage, that made one feel like they were standing before countless burning cities.

Here in the Void—the space between real matter and unreal potential—

Souls could manifest as if they still had flesh.

And this soul remembered everything.

It’s death. It’s pain. It’s killer.

The dragon stared at Licht. Unblinking and Unforgiving.

But what met its gaze in return was not fear but pure, unbridled fury!!
