Villain's Second Heart: Trapped in A Fantasy Novel (BL)-Chapter 19: Demetrius, the Human
Chapter 19: Demetrius, the Human
"Mmmhmmhmmm...overdid it again, did you?"
The voice came from a tall, hunched man with a long nose and a creepy look in his eye - the King's Curse Master. He greeted Oberyn with a stretched, lipless grin like a skull trying to mimic a human expression.
Oberyn nodded, setting his sword down on the wooden table in front of him. He looked up to the Curse Master, anxious.
"You know you simply must be more careful, my precious little angel."
The Curse Master's hands wrapped around Oberyn's shoulders. It made him shiver in discomfort. "If anything were to happen to you and I wasn't around to service you, whatever would you do, hmm? Let the curse overtake you, why that wouldn't do."
The Curse Master's spidery fingers began to unbutton Oberyn's shirt but the Nephilim smacked him away.
"I'll do it," he said defiantly, removing his shirt and leaning over the table. "Just make it quick, Demetrius."
Oberyn's eyes fixed themselves on the large furnace in the back of the room. It burned with white fire and was connected to a series of metal pipes that fed throughout the Royal Academy.
He hated coming here. Of all the humans he'd had to deal with so far, Demetrius was the worst. From the day he first met Oberyn, he was parasitic - fetishizing Oberyn's Nephilim status to no end.
He'd even taken to calling Oberyn 'his little angel' on account of his wings.
Not that Oberyn liked taking out his wings - especially not around Demetrius.
Demetrius rubbed the back of his neck with his clammy, cold hands, causing goosebumps to run down his back. That was where his curse mark was.
"Oh my," Demetrius said, running a crooked finger down Oberyn's spine, slow. "The curse has grown quite fast. How could this be? It's like you ran out of mana two, three times - but it's only been a week since your last visit. You haven't been doing anything naughty, have you?"
Demetrius licked his lips as he spoke.
"Are you going to heal me or not, damn it?"
"Mmmmm, so testy. And here I thought I was starting to grow on you."
Demetrius bared his fangs, drawing closer to Oberyn. His breath, unlike his hands, was hot and stale.
Demetrius was the last human on Earth that Oberyn would want to do this. It was uncomfortable enough, but with him it was downright disgusting.
"Don't squirm away like you did last time, my little angel, or I might have to punish you."
On those words, Demetrius dove down and bit the back of Oberyn's neck, right on the center of his curse mark.
Oberyn yowled in pain, but he's not surprised. This was the only way to deal with the curse mark. Demetrius sucked the corrupted curse mana out of him - a kind of magic vampirism. Since Demetrius wasn't a Magician, the curse did not affect him
"Aghh...damn it!" Oberyn cried, thrashing about on the table but trying to stay still. Demetrius drained more and more out of him. This was going on a lot longer than normal. Usually it took Demetrius only two or three seconds...did he really absorb that much mana from Ezra yesterday?
Ezra.
Oberyn went limp and stopped fighting against the suckling sensation at his neck. His closed his eyes halfway, looking at nothing in particular.
'How are you, Ezra?' he wondered. 'Did you make it to the Ferin Village? What did you decide to do with your life?'
Demetrius is almost done sucking, but the sensation is no longer bothering him. In fact...Oberyn is finding it quite pleasurable.
"Ezra..." he whimpered. If only Ezra could have been the Curse Master, and Demetrius the stranger in the woods. He wouldn't mind this whole curse-business nearly as much if Ezra could handle it.
Demetrius wiped his mouth. He was finished draining the corrupted mana.
"Did you say something?" Demetrius asked, smacking his lips together, relishing in the taste of Oberyn's curse.

Oberyn threw his shirt back on and grabbed his items from the table. "No. Nothing at all."
He started to rush out of the room, but Demetrius' deep, snobbish voice called him back. "My little angel, aren't you forgetting something?"
Oberyn glanced at the item in Demetrius' hand. A mana crystal - of course. Oberyn needed it to replenish the mana he'd lost.
"Thanks," Oberyn said, grabbing the crystal.
"Oh, you're very welcome," Demetrius replied, grabbing Oberyn's arm. The Nephilim tried to step away, but Demetrius only tightened his grip.
"Where are you off to in such a hurry? Surely not to go see someone, hmm? It would be oh so naughty of you to go flirting around with someone else when we have such a special little arrangement, wouldn't it?"
"I'm not going to see anyone," Oberyn scowled, ripping his arm away with aggression. "As if I'd want to be flirting with some human."
There it was again, nagging at the back of his mind.
'Why am I still thinking of Ezra at a time like this?'
"If you're not busy, then perhaps you and I could spend a little time together tonight, hmmmm? I have reservations to the finest establishment in all of Asteria, but my friend seems to have fallen quite ill and he won't be able to make it."
"No thanks."
"Hmmm? Oh, but you simply must come. I don't want there to be any concerns or complications - why, even the king will be dining there tonight! If he asks why I'm eating alone, I'd have to tell him you declined the finest cuisine in the kingdom, and OH - wouldn't that be devilishly suspicious?
"The king might think you're up to something, yes. Yes, he might even place you under more strenuous supervision. Oh, he might even collar you if you don't apologize for such a transgression..."
The day he spent with Ezra was the happiest day of his life since coming to this world.
That's all Oberyn could think about during that moment. How happy he was yesterday. To find someone who saw him as just another person - an equal.
"I...guess I'll see you there," Oberyn said, defeated.
"Oh, no no. I'll come pick you up at your room at seven. Oh, and it's a fancy affair, so do make sure you dress in your very best. In fact - I'll have an outfit brought to your quarters! You'll be just perfect for me."
Oberyn involuntarily twitched.
'Ezra...I hope you find what you're looking for.'
