Villain Simulator-Chapter 111: Disgusting Protagonist
Divine Magic International Airport, New York City.
The arrivals gate bustled with people coming and going, and among them was a young man with white hair, dressed in a wrinkled white shirt and black pants.
Though he appeared unremarkable at first glance, there was an air of naiveté and conceit about him, as if he expected the world to bow to him.
In his hand, he held a cup of boba tea, while a black leather backpack hung casually over his shoulder. Around his neck dangled a large silver key-shaped trinket, looking at which a greedy gleam sparkled in my eyes.
’Prototype Sword of Evolution. Just as I suspected, it hasn’t merged with him yet.’
This young man, who intentionally or unintentionally exuded an aura of entitlement like a typical protagonist, was none other than Adam Taylor, the main character of this world, my "brother-in-law," and the sole apostle of Goddess Roshini.
However, he wasn’t alone. Beside him stood a black-haired girl, her lower face obscured by a pollution mask.
Despite this, her narrow eyes hinted at her Asian heritage, and beneath her loose-fitting black t-shirt and trousers, I could still tell she had an explosive figure that belied her casual attire.
From time to time, she cast admiring glances at Adam, her eyes filled with awe and adoration.
Observing her, anyone would mistook her for a young girl experiencing the first flush of love.
Yet, little did they know that this seemingly infatuated girl was, in fact, an assassin who had once been this same young man’s life and death enemy in the dungeon until a few days ago.
In the dungeon, she tried to assassinate him multiple times.
But should I say truly worthy of the protagonist of the hypocritical righteousness and harem type?
Faced with such a girl who was stronger than him, he not only defeated her, but instead of killing her to avoid future trouble, he chose to spare her life, proclaiming that the goddess had granted her another chance to live a better life and that she was free to leave.
However, let’s be honest about the so-called revelation from the goddess.
It was his own foolish infatuation and his idiotic brain that didn’t work properly in front of a beautiful girl, rendering him unable to carry out the necessary action of eliminating a potential threat and making him naively believe that showing mercy might earn him her favor.
And guess what?
The most absurd thing actually did happen, and his deluded fantasies really came true.
This girl, an idiot bitch—what kind of ruthless assassin?
After failing to assassinate him, who was her target, she not only didn’t retreat and report to her superiors, but she also betrayed her own people.
Why?
Because the supposed magnanimity of the protagonist fascinated her. She became his comrade in arms, and after facing challenges together, she became his devoted little follower, leading to the current situation.
Truly befitting a harem protagonist who effortlessly attracts admirers and could get girls left and right without any effort, like picking up flowers from the street side.
However, despite harboring feelings for the girl, how could he, the protagonist, allow his emotions to show and compromise his dignity as an apostle of the goddess?
Therefore, despite his desire to reciprocate her feelings, he remained outwardly aloof, ignoring her gaze as if it were invisible.
Nevertheless, being the protagonist he was, his indifference only fueled the jealousy of onlookers, who desperately wanted to give a well-deserved punch to his smug face.
Luckily for him, they only dared to talk amongst themselves and didn’t come out to really do it.
"Tch, truly a pig with pearls hanging around his neck."
"Damn, why can’t I be lucky enough to have such a beauty admire me?"

"God, why are you so unfair? Won’t it be better to give her to me than to waste her on someone who doesn’t care?"
"Hey, you idiot, stop talking nonsense to yourself and help me carry the luggage, or you’ll be sleeping on the floor tonight."
"Yes, yes, my dear wife."
The man who was just ogling was pulled away and severely reprimanded by his wife, making him look pitiful and causing the onlookers to burst into laughter.
"—Hahaha—"
This was all observed by Charlotte and me as we discreetly trailed the protagonist from a distance.
Thanks to the combined effects of Charlotte’s [Shadow Veil] and my [Stealth], no one, not even the protagonist, could detect our presence.
This little episode went undetected by the protagonist, who had already exited the airport and separated from the girl, both of them about to take different taxis since their destinations were in opposite directions.
Noticing this, I gestured to Charlotte and pointed at the girl who took another taxi.
Charlotte understood without my explanation and swiftly relayed orders through her walkie-talkie.
"Capture the black-haired Asian girl silently, taxi number—"
With that command issued, we departed the airport and trailed the protagonist’s taxi.
Yet, the more we followed, the deeper my brow furrowed. Despite knowing his destination, confirming it firsthand made me unable to resist clicking my tongue inwardly.
’My mother is lying in the hospital with her life and death unknown.’
’My father became an alcoholic, and my only sister, who was left alone, bearing the burden of the whole family on her shoulders, hasn’t contacted me or left a message while I was in the dungeon; her situation is unknown.’
’Even so, as the man of the house, I not only ran away, ignoring my responsibilities to grab an elusive opportunity to grow stronger, but now, after coming back, I don’t even care to visit my house.’
’Instead, I am directly going to the slums to test out my new powers against some gangster and then hiding to train at a special place only I knew the location of.’
This was the protagonist.
Now I really don’t have any problem with people being evil and disregarding everything for their goal; everyone has their own path.
However, for some reason, I really hated this self-righteous hypocrite protagonist, who, despite all of this, still had the audacity to say he loved his family more than himself.
Disgusting.
"ptooey"
I contemptuously spat outside the car window.
But this was just the beginning. Remembering the events surrounding Rachael’s tragic suicide only fueled my frustration further.
If I remember correctly, in the novel, when Rachael committed suicide, expect the initial sadness; the protagonist didn’t waver much.
He only thought that he needed to be stronger.
It infuriated me. How could someone be so self-centered and ignorant?
He had the power to prevent tragedy and save lives, yet he chose to prioritize his own ambitions over the well-being of his family.
Even if he was there to support his family and take on responsibilities, he could have saved his father.
If he had sold even some non-important findings from the dungeon instead of using them to compete in the next high-level dungeon, he could have saved his mother’s life, and if he weren’t such an asshole and had asked his sister if something happened or even once said that he was there to support her, Rachael would not have drowned in despair.
She would have at least a reason to live, but he didn’t do anything.
Moreover, despite attacking Dungeons selfishly to get stronger while neglecting even his own family, who fed him and nurtured him as best they could while cutting their own stomachs as best they could, he was praised by the goddess for making the supposed sacrifices for the greater good of humanity.
Reflecting on these events, I couldn’t help but question myself.
How could I have written such a story?
Was it truly my creation, or had something gone terribly wrong along the way?
