Villain of Fate: The Tyrant System-Chapter 96: When Arrogance Meets Destiny
When Arrogance Meets Destiny
Mike Valquin slapped his thigh, eyes sparkling like a child who had just discovered fireworks.
"Damn, these guys really have some skills. I should learn a few tricks to impress girls."
Julian D’Aurelius didn’t even glance at him. He lifted his teacup calmly, golden eyes half-lidded.
"That would take you at least ten years."
Mike froze mid-laugh. "Ten years? Bro, I just want to impress, not cultivate immortality."
Julian didn’t reply.
He had already seen how this story would unfold.
[No matter how impressive, it’s all just stepping stones for Evan.]
His gaze drifted lazily toward the center of the hall where senior Vyom had just been humiliated.
[According to the plot, this old man will also lose to Master Togou, and then Master Togou will have a conflict with Evan.]
He took a slow sip of tea, unhurried.
[After Master Togou’s ritual fails, it’ll be Evan’s turn to show off, and Gwen will start admiring him from here.]
A faint smirk flickered at the corner of his lips.
[Poor Mike. Not only will he be killed by Evan, but his family fortune and sister will also fall into his hands.]
Across the hall—
Gwen Valquin’s breath hitched.
There it was again.
That voice.
Not spoken.
Not heard with ears.
But clear.
Intimate.
Cold.
Her eyes snapped toward her brother instinctively.
Mike was still grinning stupidly at the spectacle.
Then her gaze shifted—
And landed on Julian.
Black hair. Calm posture. Golden eyes reflecting chandelier light.
Her heart pounded.
It couldn’t be wrong.
Her brother had no other close friends besides him.
It had to be him.
Shock surged through her chest, but her expression remained perfectly composed.
She would not reveal anything.
Not yet.
If what that inner voice said was true...
Then today—
Everything would be revealed.
Fight started. Senior Vyom moved first against Togou.
A sudden twitch ran through the crimson thread clutched in his palm.
Midway through the air, it stretched out, lighting up more with every instant before becoming a fiery snake that snarled while surging ahead.
Faster than expected, heat climbed through the air.
Back they moved, some of the guests, without thinking. A few pulled away before even realizing it.
The fiery snake shot toward Togou with terrifying speed.
Yet Togou merely sneered.
As the serpent approached—
He extended one finger.
The air froze.
The flaming serpent halted mid-strike.
Its body trembled violently as though strangled by invisible chains.
"Go back."
His voice was light.
Almost casual.
The serpent shuddered—
Then violently reversed direction.
It tore through the air straight toward senior Vyom.
The old man’s eyes widened in disbelief.
His own technique—
Turned against him?
He scrambled backward in panic, robes flapping, nearly tripping over his own feet.
The once dignified northern master now looked utterly disheveled.
The crowd burst into laughter.
Respect for Togou surged like a rising tide.
"As expected of Master Togou from White Hills!"
"Incredible control!"
"He reversed the technique effortlessly!"
"He’s in a completely different realm!"
Senior Vyom ran awkwardly for several steps before finally shouting in frustration,
"Master Togou, I admit defeat. I am thoroughly convinced."
The flaming serpent instantly lost its glow.
The red string dropped to the ground lifelessly.
Togou smiled faintly, clearly pleased.
Senior Vyom picked up the string in silence, tied it back around his wrist, and stepped aside without another word.
Humiliation burned in his eyes.
With that—
No one else dared to challenge Togou.
The hall grew quiet.
Togou scanned the crowd, pride practically radiating from him.
He cupped his hands lightly.
"Thank you all for yielding. Since no one else dares, I will handle the Valquin household’s issue."
Reluctance flickered across many faces.
But reality was undeniable.
None of them were his match.
Rex Valquin stepped forward, awe clear in his eyes.
"Then we’ll trouble Master Togou."
"As cultivators," Togou replied with solemn grace, "it is our duty to exorcise demons. It is what I should do."
His tone was respectful toward Rex.
After all—
A wealthy man deserved courtesy.
Gwen stood silently to the side, heart pounding.
Everything.
Every single line.
It was unfolding exactly as she had heard in that mysterious inner voice.
She steadied herself.
Then deliberately turned toward Evan.
"Mr. Evan," she said softly, eyes bright with calculated admiration, "Master Togou is amazing. Like an immortal."
Evan sneered faintly.
"Just some minor tricks."
His tone was dismissive.
Arrogant.
Several Exorcists immediately stiffened.
Evan’s lips curved upward confidently.
The man from White Hills did have some skill.
But compared to him?
Nothing.
Once he revealed his true strength—
Gwen would understand.
Understand what a real master looked like.
His words drew attention instantly.
Eyes turned.
Whispers stirred.
Julian rolled his eyes and continued sipping tea.
[Here we go again. Starting with provoking others.]
[Then he’ll anger them, make a bet, and crush them.]
[After that, he’ll pretend to be magnanimous to win people over.]
He exhaled slowly.
[You’re really good at being a hypocrite.]
Gwen’s pupils shrank slightly.
Hypocrite?
Her chest tightened.
Across the hall—
Togou’s expression darkened visibly.
He slowly turned his head toward Evan.
The young man stood casually, hands in pockets, as if the entire hall were beneath him.
"Where did this brat come from?" Togou’s voice was heavy with anger. "Daring to call White Hills minor tricks."
His eyes flashed coldly.
"If you’re not convinced, let’s duel."
The hall erupted.
"Who invited this person? Throw him out!"
"Ridiculous brat!"
"A master cannot be insulted!"
"Teach him a lesson, Master Togou!"
The Exorcists shouted one after another, glaring at Evan as though he were a clown who had stumbled into the wrong stage.
The atmosphere thickened.
Tension crackled like electricity before a storm.
Julian leaned back calmly.
Right on schedule.
The play had just begun.
