Lilith stepped out of Julian’s shadow.
"...!" He felt it immediately.
With his back facing Theodore, Julian didn’t know what was happening but even without looking, he was so familiar and intimate with Lilith already that he could pick out her unique qi signature immediately.
And the moment he felt her qi, he knew that something was wrong.
Julian didn’t even try to think to understand what exactly was wrong, the first instinct that came to his mind was to react.
Afterall, he was the most infamous villain in the whole world and this was similar to infamous drug lords and criminals in his previous life.
Criminals learned to life on their toes in a constant state of alert to react to the slightest anomaly.
Since awakening in this world, Julian found it hard at first to adapt to the reality of living as Zaratul as the most hated villain in the entire world with so many powerful enemies after his life.
It was tiring and mentally draining, it was a life filled with anxiety.
But after the events of Falaniondor, he was forced to adapt and now, he was living his life like a criminal.
This was why the moment he sensed Lilith’s qi, he didn’t even try to think to understand what was going on.
Act first, think later.
BZZZ!
His qi also flared as he disappeared.
Blink!
Julian teleported towards a corner of his room immediately as he bared his fangs and entered a state of combat.
He quickly looked to his previous position where Lilith now was with Theodore.
The Wolfkin had a look of sheer horror on his face as he faced the red-cloaked Vampire that was now standing just beside him with a cold and impassive expression on her face.
Lilith glared at him with a look of murder on her face.
He tried to move and run but he could not because the Vampire’s hand wrapped tightly around his right hand’s wrist, and on his grasp was a dagger.
’A dagger?’ Julian was alarmed.
Qi Sight!
He focused on the dagger, and immediately he felt a chill crawl down his spine as he felt like he was staring at inevitability itself.
Julian felt like he was staring at death itself as he saw sinister gray energy swirling inside the dagger in circular loops.
’That dagger can kill an unsuspecting S Rank Sovereign!’ Instinctively, this was the first thought that crept into his mind.
Immediately, Julian’s rage exploded. ’This was an assassination attempt?’
’Theodore is an assassin?’
Rage blinded his mind instantly.
Blink!
Julian blinked towards the Wolfkin again and he slapped the hand with the dagger away, making the dagger clatter to the ground.
Lilith finally released the Wolfin but Julian didn’t stop.
BAM!
He held Theodore by both his wrists before slamming his knee to his chest, cracking a few ribs as the Wolfkin coughed a mouthful of blood.
He groaned but Julian didn’t stop.
He grabbed the Wolfkin by the head and slammed his head to the floor of the bedroom, causing a large tear to open up in his head as blood splattered, heavily injuring the Wolfkin.
"Who sent you???" Towering above him, Julian growled.
In that moment, Julian suddenly heard an illusory sound of something distant shattering and the next moment, he keenly saw the Wolfkin’s previously gray eyes suddenly becoming brown.
’What the...?’
"Who sent you?!" He repeated with a growl.
Julian expected Theodore to either cower in fear, begging for his life, or to laugh like a maniacal terrorist who was willing to let go of his life like a martyr. But neither of these 2 scenarios happened.
Instead, Theodore burst into tears.
He said nothing, he simply curled his body up and started crying real tears as snot quickly filled his face like a man that was just put through a lifetime of trauma.
His eyes were filled with horror, fear, and trauma.
Julian narrowed his eyes. ’What tactic is this?’
In that moment, Lilith calmly tapped him on the shoulder, making him snap out of his rage. "Calm down, he’s no longer under her influence".
"Her influence? Whose influence?" Julian was confused and alarmed.
"Seraphina". Lilith said coldly.
By now, Julian already realized that something was wrong and that the situation was not as straightforward as he thought.
He let go of the crying Wolfkin and stood up with a frown. "Seraphina Duskveil? The current High Priestess of the Demoness Sect?"
He had read about her earlier in the Library.
Lilith nodded. "He’s not part of the Demoness Sect, he’s just a victim that was controlled by her through a Curse and sent as a disposable tool in an attempt to assassinate you".
"This is the work of a Fate Witch".
Lilith’s crimson eyes narrowed as she added. "Her preparations were meticulous, what she didn’t plan for is the fact that I’ll suddenly get a fortuitous encounter to eat a real Primordial Blood Fruit".
"The Primordial Blood Fruit increased my sensitivity to fate threads, this is why I was able to sense the anomaly in him after returning to the Castle".
"Since then, I’ve been watching him keenly to confirm my suspicions".
She looked at Theodore coldly. "And when I saw him pray to the Witch of Misfortune to bless the dagger, I knew what was going on immediately".
Listening to Lilith’s explanation, Julian did not feel better at all as instead he felt a chill run down his spine. "A Witch can manipulate events to assassinate me without even making a move?"
"A Fate Witch can". Lilith said calmly. "That is the nature of their powers. A clever combination of Fated Outcome, Inevitable Path, and Conceptual Curse can do it".
"As a Fate Witch, her perception and manipulation of fate threads is far better and more intricate than mine, but she failed to account for such a drastic change in my fate sensitivity after I ate the Primordial Blood Fruit".
The more Julian listened, the more a phrase rang in his mind repeatedly. ’I need power...’
He didn’t think of anything else.
’I need power, I need power dammit!’
After this, Julian confirmed that there was no use waiting.
Deciding to hole up in his castle and take things slow and steady was not going to guarantee his safety, the only way to guarantee his safety was if he went out there to pursue power.
If he was an S Rank Sovereign again, he would have the ability to defend himself against the world then.
Julian smiled coldly. "This time, I didn’t agitate any tension with them and they took the initiative to try assassinating me".
"Fine," his crimson irises gleamed. "I’m going to show them the price of antagonizing me".
He looked at Lilith with glowing eyes.
"The Demoness Sect is my next victim".
