Chapter 63: 60 Hospital’s Emergency Room

It wasn’t until Wang Jian and the others left in the ambulance that the people of the village truly dispersed.

Ren Yu, who had just rushed over, only managed to find Li Liping. She had completely missed Wang Jian, only catching a glimpse of the ambulance’s taillights as it drove away.

"With such a commotion in the village, why did you only just arrive? All the onlookers are almost gone."

Li Liping looked displeased. It wasn’t because Ren Yu was tugging at her; she was still brooding over Wang Jian not letting her go to the hospital.

"I was reading at home with my headphones on, listening to music. I didn’t notice the noise outside," Ren Yu said, a little embarrassed. After what had almost happened with Wang Jian at the clinic earlier, she hadn’t been able to settle down, even after getting home. She had tried to immerse herself in her studies to find her center again, but once she started, she was completely absorbed. With her headphones on, it felt like she was the only person in the world. If Ren Jiacheng hadn’t called for her, she would have had no idea such a huge incident had occurred at the Wang family’s home.

Li Liping shot Ren Yu an ’I should have known’ look before briefly explaining what had happened. Most of the villagers had seen it all, so it was hardly a secret.

The news that "Wang Xiang almost committed murder" had already spread, shocking everyone who heard it. In this day and age, beating one’s wife was already despicable enough, let alone attacking her with a knife.

Ren Yu found it unbelievable. I know Wang Xiang pretty well, and no matter how I think about it, he doesn’t seem like the type of person who would kill someone. In my memory, the worst you could call him—using modern slang—is a bit ’sleazy.’ He’s nowhere near the terrible level of a murderer.

"Could there be some mistake?" Ren Yu muttered tentatively.

"A mistake?" Li Liping said, rolling her eyes. "He knocked me out cold and broke Xu Qian’s ribs. If Wang Jian hadn’t returned in time, that kitchen knife might have actually come down on her."

Speaking of which, she added, "That’s right, he did it on purpose. He specifically sent Wang Jian away and snuck back early on his own. How could that be a mistake?"

This was all too serious. After hearing everything, Ren Yu turned to leave but was grabbed by Li Liping. "Where are you going?"

"To the hospital, of course," Ren Yu said matter-of-factly.

Li Liping pointed to the sky. "What time do you think it is, Miss? It’s already dark. How are you going to get to the hospital? Besides, you’re just a kid. What could you do there? Go home and get back to your studies. Be good and don’t cause any more trouble."

Li Liping didn’t think much more of it. Even I wasn’t able to go, so how could Ren Yu?

Though reluctant, Ren Yu had no choice but to give up.

In the end, Li Liping had Ren Yu help her lock the Wang family’s front door and tidy up the courtyard before they left together.

「...」

The hospital emergency room was overcrowded due to a highway car accident. A crowd of people, nearly all of them family members of the crash victims, bustled in and out of the entrance. Wang Jian had just stepped inside and was following the directions of the ambulance doctor when he bumped into an acquaintance right in front of the emergency operating room.

"Junior?"

"Hello, Senior."

Liang Xiu had just stepped out of the operating room, with Zhao Zhe right behind her. Hearing Liang Xiu’s greeting, Zhao Zhe immediately looked over at Wang Jian. His name had been the talk of the emergency department all day.

But looking at him now, there’s nothing special about this young man. He certainly doesn’t look like a master who could work miracles with a single needle at the scene of a car wreck.

Liang Xiu glanced from Wang Jian to the woman he was supporting, Xu Qian, and a knowing smile spread across her face. "I was wondering why you left in such a hurry. So, you were off to see your girlfriend."

Before Wang Jian could explain, she asked, "What happened?"

Blushing, Xu Qian pointed to her injury. "A broken rib."

"Oh?" Liang Xiu paused, her gaze shifting to Wang Jian. He knew what she was asking and gave a direct nod. "I’ve already reset it, but the follow-up treatment still needs to be handled by the hospital."

"Okay!"

Seeing Wang Jian nod, both Liang Xiu and Zhao Zhe had the same thought. Just as expected of him.

Liang Xiu said, "The emergency department is pretty swamped today. I’ll contact Director Li in orthopedics for you and get you a ward to settle into."

"Thank you."

"Don’t mention it. If it weren’t for you, my brother probably wouldn’t have survived," Liang Xiu said, waving her hand with a relaxed expression. Her brother was now out of danger after the emergency treatment, and it was all thanks to Wang Jian. Without him, they wouldn’t have had time to save him. Arranging a ward for him was a small matter in comparison. Besides, hospital wards weren’t in short supply at the moment, which made it even less of a big deal.

"Has his condition stabilized?" Wang Jian asked.

"Yes," Liang Xiu smiled. "Your acupuncture was simply miraculous. During the surgery, the moment the needle was pulled, he started bleeding immediately. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I doubt any doctor would believe something so incredible. Since you’re here, I’ll have your silver needle returned to you once it’s been cleaned."

"Sure."

The silver needle wasn’t particularly valuable, but it was always better to have the full set, so Wang Jian accepted.

Meanwhile, Zhao Zhe stood by, watching them chat enthusiastically. He stared on eagerly, only feeling a sense of relief when Liang Xiu finally caught his gaze.

"This is Director Zhao Zhe, the chief physician of the emergency department," Liang Xiu said, knowing Zhao Zhe was eager to meet Wang Jian and acting as the intermediary. "And this is my junior, Wang Jian."

Zhao Zhe was incredibly proactive. Before Wang Jian could even speak, he extended his hand. "Doctor Wang, have you considered working in our emergency department? With your skills in Chinese medicine, it’s a waste not to be in emergency care."

"You’re too kind, Doctor Zhao."

Zhao Zhe’s grip was surprisingly strong. It took Wang Jian a moment to withdraw his hand before he stated candidly, "I’m just a village doctor right now and have no plans to work in a hospital. Please feel free to call if you ever need help, but I’ll have to pass on the job offer."

"Sigh, that’s a real shame. We must connect more in the future when we have the chance."

Zhao Zhe made no effort to hide his disappointment; his offer had been sincere. He had made his judgment based on Wang Jian’s performance on the highway alone. Still, since Wang Jian had declined, he didn’t press the matter. After all, the emergency department wasn’t a desirable post, and not every doctor was willing to work there.

Liang Xiu moved quickly. Wang Jian had only exchanged a few more words with Zhao Zhe when a head nurse from the inpatient department arrived to lead them away.

After saying his goodbyes, Wang Jian helped Xu Qian leave. Liang Xiu personally saw them to a private ward before she departed.

Once Wang Jian was gone, the ambulance doctor who had brought them to the hospital sidled up to Zhao Zhe. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Director Zhao, who is that young man? Why are you and Director Liang so..."

"Who?" Zhao Zhe raised an eyebrow, asking in return, "Didn’t you go to the highway scene today?"
