Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 247 - 241 Little Divine Doctor
"Ah, how did I not know about this?" Angel blinked, her face a mask of puzzlement. She was the producer in charge of filming Wang Jian’s documentary. She shouldn’t have been in the dark about something like this.
If this is true, it’s a definite dereliction of my duty.
Li Dayu glanced at her with an "I knew it" expression, as if he had brought it up specifically for her to hear.
"You people only know how to stick your cameras inside the clinic all day," Li Dayu muttered. "Besides filming a few treatment sessions, what the hell else would you know?"
As soon as he spoke these coarse words, the surrounding old folks erupted in laughter.
Angel’s face flushed crimson. Noticing Lin Shu and Wen Sheng looking at her with strange expressions, she wished a crack would open in the ground and swallow her whole. The profound methods Wang Jian had displayed before were things she genuinely couldn’t include in the documentary. However, anecdotes circulating among the patients and a nickname they had come up with themselves were absolutely perfect material.
"Village Chief," Angel cozied up to Li Dayu, putting on a cute act. "Didn’t we agree before? You were going to tell me the moment you heard anything."
"Hmph!" Li Dayu grunted. "And am I not telling you now?"
"Ah, you’re right, you’re right." Angel knew she was in the wrong, but she still needed Li Dayu’s help to film this angle. "Village Chief, could you do me another favor? Could you tell me who I should talk to about this ’Little Immortal Doctor’ nickname?"
At this, Li Dayu finally smiled. He pulled a piece of paper from his coat pocket and chuckled. "Little lady, I already have it prepared for you. I knew you’d need it. But... I’m doing this to help our Xiao Jian, not you. Make sure you get that straight."
"Exactly! That’s right!" the old men nearby chimed in, happy to join the teasing. To them, anything that helped Wang Jian was a good thing.
Angel’s cheeks reddened slightly as she took the paper from Li Dayu. Unfolding it, she found rows of names, addresses, and contact numbers. This list was more than enough for their interviews.
"Thank you, Village Chief!" Angel said, her voice full of excitement. "I’ll get my team on this right away."
She made a move to leave but immediately turned back. "By the way, Village Chief, about the interview material for our documentary... why don’t you let us interview you, too? You live in the same courtyard as Doctor Wang, and you’re the head of the village. An interview seems only right, don’t you think?"
A corner of Li Dayu’s mouth quirked up. This was the exact line he had been waiting for. The man had few faults, but he had a real weakness for anything that let him gain face and be in the spotlight. When he first heard a documentary was being filmed, he’d had a strong urge to be on TV but had been too embarrassed to bring it up himself, so he had simply waited.
Who knew these young filmmakers would be so clueless? How could they not interview me, the village chief, first?
They had been filming for almost a month, and not a single person had approached him.
Fortunately, his patience had paid off. In helping Wang Jian expand his influence, he had also managed to get what he wanted.
"That would be wonderful," Li Dayu beamed. "Just give me a heads-up so I can wear something formal for the interview."
"Done!"
Satisfied, Angel bid a cheerful farewell to Lin Shu and the others and hurried away.
Once Angel was out of sight, Li Dayu turned his attention to Lin Shu and Wen Sheng. "Young men, aren’t you two with the TV station, here to film a show? Your leader just left. Why didn’t you go with her?"
Lin Shu and Wen Sheng exchanged a smile. "We’re not with Angel’s crew," Lin Shu explained. "They shoot their film, and we work on our theme song. We don’t get in each other’s way."
"Oh, a theme song?" Li Dayu looked at the two with curiosity, his gaze lingering on Wen Sheng. "This young man looks awfully familiar," he said suddenly. "Are you that... that one celebrity?"
Li Dayu wracked his brain for a name but came up empty. Still, it was clear from his expression that he genuinely recognized Wen Sheng’s face.
Just then, an old woman nearby piped up, "Oh, my! Isn’t that the young man from our provincial TV station’s show? The one where a bunch of them are running around, chasing each other and playing hide-and-seek."
"Ah, yes, yes, yes!" Li Dayu finally remembered and called out a name. "You’re Junjie, right? That’s it, Junjie!"
A flicker of joy lit up Wen Sheng’s face. I can’t believe it. An old man in a small village like this actually recognizes me! Looks like I’m not a total has-been yet. But his joy was short-lived. Li Dayu’s confident "Junjie" yanked him straight back to reality.
Wen Sheng could only say awkwardly, "Sir, my name is Wen Sheng. Junjie is someone else, though we are on the same team in the show."
Li Dayu’s expression froze for a second, but years of practice allowed him to recover quickly. "Ah, yes, yes, Wen Sheng! That’s what I was about to say, Wen Sheng. You see, I remember that time you were playing a game and they pushed you into the water."
Wen Sheng looked even more awkward. "...Sir," he mumbled, "that was a girl named Yi Lin."
Li Dayu was completely stumped. How could he be wrong again? He scrambled to salvage the situation. "Ah, my mistake. What I meant was, I remember the man who pushed that girl into the water."
Wen Sheng gave up. The man the elder was talking about was, in fact, Junjie. He saw how it was and decided not to explain further, simply nodding in agreement. "Ah, yes, yes, sir. You’re absolutely right."
Li Dayu finally breathed a sigh of relief and burst out laughing. "See? I wasn’t wrong, was I?"
After that, the two tacitly steered the conversation toward small talk, avoiding any more mention of the messy business of the entertainment industry. When Wen Sheng wasn’t looking, Li Dayu quickly wiped the sweat from his forehead.
Honestly, this was the most embarrassing gaffe of his entire political career. To think that he, Li Dayu, the man who had single-handedly developed Paigou Village, would ever encounter such an awkward moment. He was usually so adept at handling any situation, able to schmooze with businessmen and officials alike. He never imagined that his sterling reputation would nearly be ruined by a celebrity. This encounter solidified his decision to steer clear of stars like this in the future.
The two exchanged a few more meaningless words, then both fell silent, turning their gazes to the mountain scenery in the distance.
Lin Shu paid them no mind. He was completely absorbed in the charm of the mountain village, his mind continuously piecing together lyrics and melodies for the song. He would occasionally hum a few lines and jot something in his notebook, only to cross it all out a moment later.
None of them noticed that while they were preoccupied, a black Audi had pulled into the parking lot at the village entrance.
A man with a cold expression, wearing sunglasses, stepped out of the car. A prominent scar ran across the back of one hand, and the faint outline of a tattoo was visible at his collar. After getting out, the man glanced at his phone, scanned the village, and then walked directly toward the clinic.
