Chapter 234: 228 Enjoying Tranquility

Wow!

Wang Jian never imagined he would encounter Wang Deqiang here again. Don’t soldiers have anything better to do? He’s actually working as someone’s chauffeur.

Wang Deqiang also saw Wang Jian and was momentarily stunned. It suddenly made sense why An Xuanyi had called him earlier to say a doctor had saved him. If Wang Deqiang had known about An Xuanyi’s accident earlier, he would have sent him back to the military district immediately. However, by the time he found out, An Xuanyi had already reached the entrance of the scenic area.

"Doctor Wang?" The memory of handling the Gu Poison incident with Wang Jian was still fresh in his mind. "You saved Mr. An, right? With you here, we really don’t have to worry about his condition."

Wang Deqiang spoke with a smile, projecting even more confidence than Wang Jian himself.

An Xuanyi looked on in surprise as the two greeted each other. "Young man, you know Captain Wang?" he asked, astonished.

Captain? The moment Wang Jian heard An Xuanyi’s title for him, he knew Wang Deqiang had been promoted. That made sense. If the Gu Poison incident had been mishandled, it would have been a massive disaster for all of Shanghai City. It wasn’t surprising he’d be promoted for such an achievement. He just wondered where that left Feng Yan now that Wang Deqiang was a captain.

Wang Deqiang nodded. Noticing there were others present, he simply explained, "That’s right. During our last mission, we were fortunate to have Doctor Wang’s help."

An Xuanyi’s eyes lit up with understanding. He knew a little about Wang Deqiang’s past, so hearing this, he didn’t press for details. Instead, he decided he would ask more about it once they were in the car.

After some more polite conversation, Wang Deqiang gave Wang Jian a military salute and then left with An Xuanyi and Xiao Yuan.

Once they were gone, Wang Jian and the others quietly waited for the Cai Family’s driver to arrive.

Wang Jian didn’t think much of what had just happened, but Chairman Kang and the others were giving him strange looks. This was especially true for Yu Yen and Wang Lei, who didn’t know Wang Jian well.

The man who just saluted Wang Jian was clearly a soldier, and apparently a captain. That salute carried so much meaning. First, Wang Jian could be his superior... but that seems unlikely. Second, the man holds Wang Jian in high esteem. That’s very likely. Third...

Yu Yen and Wang Lei exchanged a look, a silent understanding passing between them. If they had heard correctly, the soldier had also said that Wang Jian provided a great deal of help on the last mission. If we were to guess boldly, could it be that Wang Jian also saved this captain’s life?

Although their guess was already bold, they didn’t dare to imagine that Wang Jian had single-handedly won the entire mission through his skills. After all, that wouldn’t be speculation; that would be pure fantasy.

Of course, Wang Jian was oblivious to their wild musings. Right now, all he wanted was to take a shower and change. The blood covering him had been dried by the wind, leaving his clothes feeling stiff and sticky. The overwhelming stench of blood filled his nostrils; it was more than anyone could stand.

"You guys go on to the hotel," he said to Chairman Kang and the others as he got into the car. "I’m covered in blood and I stink, so I need to go home and change. I’m sorry today’s incident kept you from enjoying the mountains. I’ll make it up to you another day."

He decided that he would compensate them somehow, even if it had to wait until he went to Capital City.

Hearing this, Yu Yen was the first to speak up. "Don’t worry about it, Senior. You’re being too formal. We actually learned a lot today."

"Exactly," Wang Lei added. "Why go home, Senior? Just take a shower at the hotel and find some clean clothes to change into. Going home is so far and such a hassle. What if your family misunderstands? That’d be a pain to explain."

That did make some sense, and Wang Jian hesitated. I didn’t bring anything with me, though. I don’t have a change of clothes.

Just as Wang Jian was preparing to refuse, Uncle Li, the driver, having understood the situation, chimed in from the front seat. "Mr. Wang, just go straight to the hotel. I’ve already arranged a room and a change of clothes for you. Please, don’t worry."

The others in the car looked over, impressed by how thorough Uncle Li was. They had only briefly mentioned what happened when they met him in the parking lot, and they never expected he would have already arranged everything behind the scenes.

What they didn’t know was that, thanks to Cai Qiong’s advance arrangements, Uncle Li even knew all of Wang Jian’s measurements. As for how Cai Qiong knew his measurements, Uncle Li had no idea, and he didn’t dare ask. Regardless, after seeing to this, Uncle Li had firmly decided to treat Wang Jian with all the respect due to a young master of the Cai Family.

Hearing this, Wang Jian no longer objected and went with the others to the hotel. Ignoring the curious glances from the hotel staff, he headed straight for the room Uncle Li had told him about. Uncle Li had even arranged for the room key to be prepared in advance; Wang Jian received it the moment he stepped out of the car, so there was no issue getting in. As for the blood covering them, Uncle Li quickly explained it away to the staff in the lobby.

My clothes are ruined. Good thing they were just cheap T-shirts I bought online—a four-pack for 29.9, practically worthless. After entering the room, he threw the soiled clothes directly into the trash bin.

On the bed, a full change of clothes was already laid out, from underwear to outerwear. There was even a pair of brand-new Nike sneakers.

I have to admit, Uncle Li is incredibly reliable. And the wicked allure of capitalism is dangerously easy to get used to.

Musing on this, Wang Jian went into the bathroom. He turned the music on his phone to full blast before stripping down and stepping into the shower with a look of pure bliss.

The hotel Cai Qiong had arranged for them was excellent. While not five-star, it was the best in Shanghai City and rated at four stars.

What Wang Jian didn’t expect, however, was that while he was showering, the lock on his door suddenly went BEEP. BEEP. Someone had opened it from the outside with a key card.

A slender figure appeared in the doorway—clearly a woman.

She made no effort to hide her presence, boldly pushing the door open and walking inside.

Seeing that Wang Jian wasn’t in the main room, the woman showed no alarm. She calmly tidied up the shoes and socks he had left on the floor, gathering the items that hadn’t made it into the trash. She emptied their contents and placed everything neatly on a side table before sitting contentedly on the foot of the bed. Her gaze drifted toward the bathroom, a smile playing on her lips.

Unlike a typical home, the hotel bathroom featured a large, transparent glass wall separating it from the bedroom. While there were foldable blinds inside that could be closed, they couldn’t completely block the view from the room. Supposedly, this design was to prevent someone from stealing your things while you were in the shower.

What Wang Jian never imagined was that as he stood under the showerhead with his eyes closed, savoring the refreshing cascade of water, a woman was serenely admiring his entire body through that very glass.

And by the looks of it, she was thoroughly enjoying the view.
