Chapter 155: 150 Zhang Li’s Breakdown

"We need to let blood."

"What?"

Li Liping was stunned at first. Let blood? She quickly realized that if they were going to let blood, it had to be from *that* place. But... how do you let blood from there? Li Liping was utterly bewildered.

"You guessed right," Wang Jian confirmed. "Actually, this kind of procedure is occasionally seen in the emergency room. Men who’ve taken Viagra sometimes suffer from this condition, especially those with high blood pressure."

"Don’t worry," Wang Jian said slowly. "What you should be concerned about is whether these Medicine Pills have any side effects. Even I can’t say for sure. We have to get him through this first. But... do you remember what I said before?"

Wang Jian didn’t spell it out, but Li Liping understood the implication. She hadn’t forgotten. Before Zhang Li returned, Wang Jian had warned that although the medicine was effective, it was likely just a temporary rebound before a crash. If something went wrong, he could permanently lose his function in that area, and not even Wang Jian would be able to save it.

But Li Liping couldn’t worry about that now. After everything Wang Jian had said, she felt only one thing: fear. Even though he had told her not to panic, how could she possibly be at ease? She was terrified that if something went wrong and Zhang Li died, she wouldn’t know what to do.

At this thought, her eyes reddened. She said hurriedly, "As long as his life is saved, nothing else matters. I can’t think about the rest."

"Mm." Wang Jian nodded. He said no more, setting the Medicine Pills aside and taking out his silver needles. He instructed her, "I’m going to use the silver needles to bleed him. First, go find some waterproof material to cover the room, otherwise blood will spray everywhere. His internal pressure is too high right now; if I don’t control it, it’ll be like a fountain.

"I’ll use needles to block some acupoints, which should limit it somewhat, but blood will definitely still spray out. It’s the only way to get the swelling down."

"Okay."

Li Liping immediately went out to search. She returned with the kind of plastic sheeting used for winter greenhouses. Together with Wang Jian, they lined the entire room, not even sparing the ceiling.

Once everything was ready, Wang Jian began the procedure.

Bloodletting itself wasn’t difficult, but the location was. It was the most sensitive area, and the slightest mistake could damage Zhang Li’s nerves. After taking that medicine, Zhang Li’s condition was probably worse than it would have been otherwise.

But Wang Jian was struck by a sudden idea. The medicine had already stimulated the nerves, helping Zhang Li regain his former sensations. Although there was now damage, could he perhaps perform the bloodletting while preserving as much of Zhang Li’s function as possible?

With this idea in mind, Wang Jian placed the needles with extreme care. He chose several points for the bloodletting to distribute the pressure and avoid the nerves as much as possible.

But even so, the moment he pulled the needles out, blood gushed forth. It was like there was a pressure washer behind it, as several streams of blood shot out. Fortunately, Wang Jian reacted quickly and avoided being splattered. Li Liping, however, couldn’t spare a thought for that, as she had to help hold Zhang Li steady. Blood sprayed all over her face, but she merely closed her eyes and paid it no mind.

Wang Jian hadn’t been exaggerating when he’d warned it might gush. The jets of blood shot all the way to the ceiling. If they hadn’t put up the sheeting beforehand, the Zhang family’s room would have looked like a contemporary art exhibit.

As the bloodletting began, the sheer pain shocked Zhang Li awake from the unconscious state Wang Jian had put him in. "AH!" The silver needles hadn’t all been removed; the agony was simply too intense to sleep through.

The moment Zhang Li opened his eyes, he saw the situation below him. The sight was so shocking that his pain was instantly overwhelmed by fear. He instinctively tried to move, but his limbs were tied down, rendering him immobile. In that instant, he saw Li Liping’s blood-covered, ferocious-looking face as she held him down. From her expression, he couldn’t tell what she was trying to do. And next to him, Wang Jian was holding silver needles...

The scene was horrifying.

Is she trying to murder her husband?

If he didn’t know that Wang Jian had come to save him before he passed out, Zhang Li might have genuinely thought so. Still, watching himself bleed continuously, it would be a lie to say he wasn’t terrified. He was too scared to even cry out from the pain. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Fortunately, Wang Jian spoke up. "Don’t be afraid. It’s just a normal bloodletting. Once it’s done, you’ll only feel weak for a day or two. It’s nothing serious."

As he spoke, Wang Jian pricked Zhang Li’s body with several more silver needles. That wasn’t all. He also channeled his energy, using it like a needle to guide the flow within Zhang Li’s various acupoints and stabilize his internal condition. This finally steadied his blood pressure, and the spray of blood lessened significantly. If it had kept gushing like that, Wang Jian truly feared Zhang Li would go into shock from excessive blood loss.

Seeing the blood flow decrease so dramatically, Zhang Li breathed a sigh of relief. A moment ago, it had been jetting all the way to the ceiling, which was terrifying. Now it was trickling out like a gentle stream, which was much better.

Gritting his teeth, Zhang Li said to Wang Jian, "Thank you." The pain was no longer as severe, which proved that Wang Jian wasn’t trying to harm him.

Meanwhile, Li Liping was covered in blood. Seeing her like that, Zhang Li’s heart ached, and he was deeply moved. He remembered how anxious she had been earlier.

To have such a wife, what more could a husband ask for?

Zhang Li recalled what Li Liping had told him when he first came home. It seemed Wang Jian had warned them long ago not to take those pills carelessly. Now, Zhang Li was filled with regret for not listening to his wife.

He didn’t know if it was from the blood loss or something else, but he felt increasingly weak. The pain was fading, and his body was growing cold.

Startled, Zhang Li quickly asked, "Xiao Jian, I’m not going to die, am I? I feel so cold!" He had been burning up before, and the sudden chill sent him into a panic.

"Husband!" Li Liping’s eyes flew open. The blood on her face nearly blinded her as she said urgently, "You’re not going to die." She had no idea if that was true but said it to reassure him, then turned her pleading eyes to Wang Jian.

"Don’t overthink it," Wang Jian said after checking Zhang Li’s condition. He saw it wasn’t a new complication, just that the rapid blood loss had taken away too much body heat. "It’s just excessive blood loss. Wait a little longer. You’ll be all right soon."

To reassure them, Wang Jian deliberately offered what he believed was a gentle smile. In his years as a doctor, he had often used his handsome face to calm patients, almost always with remarkable results. So he tried it again now.

However, he didn’t realize that when Zhang Li saw that smile, his heart sank. Zhang Li and he were very close; they had often played together as kids. Zhang Li knew at once that Wang Jian’s smile was forced.

Damn it! Xiao Jian is just trying to comfort me.

Zhang Li felt himself break.

His mind began to race. What if he died? Liping would have to find a good man to remarry; she had suffered too much these past years. It was a shame about his dad, though, with no one to look after him in his old age...

And if he didn’t die... he feared things wouldn’t be much better. He remembered Li Liping mentioning that the medicine would ruin his foundation, leaving him completely debilitated. Even if he recovered, he couldn’t force Liping to live like a widow with a living husband.

These anxious thoughts raced through his mind, one after another, like scenes on a revolving lantern.
