Chapter 463: And If I Break... Know I Tried

[TAMIKO]

All his life, Tamiko had always been brave. It didn’t matter if he got into trouble or even had the greatest chance of losing his life. He was always brave and faced everything head-on.

At twenty-five, he had dared to threaten the alpha of a powerful werewolf pack that was capable of killing him without him facing any consequences because Tamiko had always been an outcast.

Hell had managed to corner the entire Grealor and force them into a choke hold, all while being a slave within Grealor.

His brevity had made it beyond the borders of Grealor back then, something that had forced his alpha at the time, alpha Ashton, to hasten the spread of the title that Tamiko had been given.

The outcast of Grealor.

It was a title meant to degrade him, yet it only served to show their fear.

And now, thirteen years since he left Grealor and eleven years since the decision that had fucked his life, Tamiko didn’t feel as brave.

It was as if life was suddenly suffocating him, and he had run out of all the possible options. That wasn’t something that a person like him came to with ease, and somehow that was what he was feeling.

He was the crown prince.

The heir to the great Kawai kingdom. He fought alongside the best of warriors and made a name for himself. Not as his father’s son or even the Grealor outcast, much less the barbarian’s Erasthai. He had made his name as Tamiko. Just Tamiko.

Yet after all that he had done to prove his worth as one of the Kawai Lycans. After all he had sacrificed to at least be deserving of happiness, this was what he was getting. A cursed ultimatum that was keeping him from the very thing that he needed.

The very man who made him feel a little less of an insane man than the prince, who was worse than his father.

For love, he had done the unthinkable.

For love, he had always been ready to sacrifice himself.

For love, he had always been down for anything that meant his Kosta would be happy.

Nevertheless, the last week has been nothing like that.

Heck, the past eleven years were a reminder that Tamiko had failed as a beloved to Kosta, that he wasn’t even worthy of calling the man his beloved. He had broken all the promises he had made to the man.

It had been the most hectic of things, but was there ever a choice here?

The crown prince was a grown man now, even though to the Lycans, he was still a teenager navigating through life as a Lycan who had grown so far from home. Then again, life has forced him to mature fast.

To be ready for whatever was coming.

Only that life never prepared him for this kind of loss.

He had sworn to Kosta that he would not die just a week ago.

And now...

Now he wasn’t so sure he could keep his promise anymore. It was as if the universe had conspired to make sure he broke his promise, thereby breaking Kosta’s heart.

Tamiko could still feel his lips tingling from the kiss they had shared. He wanted more than just a kiss. He wanted more than just a touch on the dance floor.

His whole body needed Kosta.

His mind and soul needed Kosta.

He needed Kosta.

And yet he couldn’t even have Kosta this time. It was as if there was nothing left for him and Kosta. And it hurt as hell because this was the one outcome that Tamiko wasn’t able to control.

Oh, to be powerful and powerless at the same time.

"Thank you for helping us win the war last week, your highness," some of the warriors greeted enthusiastically, like the prince had given them the sun and stars all in one evening of battle.

Tamiko just nodded with a stiff smile.

His heart was chattering.

But that wasn’t the reason he couldn’t speak any words with his warriors. It was because he was feeling so nauseated. So weak. So sweaty he was so close to undoing his robes and running naked on the palace grounds.

The idea itself was crazy and hilariously fitting in his head.

For some reason, it made him chuckle at the thought of the kingdom waking up to the reality that their prince was an insane man who ran naked across the kingdom. The entire realm would probably call him the naked prince.

Tamiko held back a laugh at the thought. He was feeling delirious already, which was not good for him, especially as he made his way between the crowds, desperate for a clearing that didn’t have a crowd as huge.

And Kosta...

His eyes were on Tamiko the whole time.

Maybe Tamiko felt his Erasthai gaze, and he chose to ignore it.

Or maybe Tamiko was so busy seeking a clearing that his focus was on surviving the night and not messing with the night for anyone. It was not that long a stretch for him, because honestly, he would give anything.

Anything to go back to the day he had not yet met Yilena Sidorova?

Well, he was a little late, wasn’t he?

"I need to get out," Tamiko mumbled as he tried to sniff out his father, or even his uncle. They were the only ones he was sure he could turn to now because Yilena and Kosta were not the best of options right now. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

However, the more Tamiko walked around, the more pain he felt. It had started as a phantom pain, something that he couldn’t trace. Something that shouldn’t have held that much weight over him.

Tamiko assumed it was because he was close to Kosta. He needed to stay away for things to be better. So, he made the choice to run from his Erasthai as his life depended on it, only that at the moment, there wasn’t much of a chance.

He was still feeling like shit. His sanity was a bad joke to his people, and his Erasthai was probably never going to want to be with him after he ran away.

Tamiko felt weak and like a coward.

He had never been one to run away, yet at this moment, he was literally rushing through the crowds, ignoring Danny’s call as if this were a game of hide and seek for him and his best friend.

But was that all there was to it?

"The day is really going well," some of the Lycans praised as Tamiko passed them.

The Lycan prince had masked his sorrow and pain so that he wouldn’t ruin the mood for everyone here. So, they didn’t seem worried for him. Especially with Danny’s voice hitting his ears a little too constantly.

But Tamiko wasn’t running away from his best friend. If anything, a part of him was holding on to the hope that Danny would get to him first before he altered one last time.

Oh, but Tamiko had hopes.

Around him, the banquet was going on so well.

It was a new evening for them, and they were happy. The battle had been completed in the name of love. The war that was pending was going to be back at Grealor, the same Grealor whose allies they had cut down, probably by ninety percent.

They had better chances of winning, and honestly, the Lycans had nothing to worry about.

"Fuck," Tamiko whispered as he felt a sharp pain in his stomach.
