Vampire Nightlife-Chapter 161 Impulse And Control (4)
?A Vampire had no wings to fly, and neither could he transform into a bat yet or summon a giant one to save him from crashing into death.
There were probably more worse ways to die than falling off a cliff… ledge, but right now, Lukas had a feeling that he'll survive this.
Where that uncanny confidence came from, Lukas didn't quite know where.
Risks where something that he didn't take much in the past.
It was safe to believe that if he messed things up once, that there'd be no way of digging himself out of the hole that he made for himself.
But right now? fre𝑒𝘸𝚎𝚋n૦ѵℯl.c𝒐𝘮
The wind blew rapidly through Lukas' hair and face, the nighttime sky cast its ethereal light and he thought he saw something shimmer in the distance like twinkling stars, but much closer than he expected.
Falling.
Falling.
Lukas was falling and he moved his body into position, prepared himself for the awful drop and then crashed into the street. A crater formed itself around him, several inches into the cement street as he rose up a second later.
His head spun for a moment, a dizzy feeling as he saw the destruction that laid before him.
"Y-yeah… I can't pay for street repairs either." Lukas said as he hopped out of the crater and then saw the mansion in the distance.
Before he could leave though, Lukas stretched his arms open.
Iolathane Durand dropped into his arms, and the impact was enough to almost break his arms into two.
"Ow, ow, ow. You're heavier than you look." Lukas muttered with a pained chuckle.
Iolathane Durand blinked and looked at her savior, none other than the same guy who had been running away from her. f𝒓𝑒e𝙬𝒆𝚋𝘯૦𝘷𝐞𝑙.c𝑜𝐦
She had expected to crash and burn, a painful experience but somehow he caught her.
"You…" Iolathane tried to say, but she fell on the street.
"Sorry about that, Miss. I have a meeting with a certain boy." Lukas said as he saw her rub her back, but then quickly ran away again.
The mansion of the Aurelius House was indeed gated with thick walls that separated it from the rest of the city, but Lukas who had leaped through twenty-storey buildings had no issue with jumping towards the top of the gate.
He could have announced his presence, but the guards at the front of the gate already left their stations to check on the destruction of the street.
Lukas was committing lots of crimes, and trespassing into private property was one of them, but for now, he slipped into the mansion's front double doors and stepped inside.
"Gotta find that Aurelius." Lukas said, sneakily.
He was about to go forward into the corridor until he bumped into someone.
"Ow, sorry, excuse me." Lukas said, ready to turn up the charm and sway whatever maid into revealing the Young Lord Aurelius' location, but when he looked up, it was far from a young and impressionable maid he had hoped.
"What is someone like you doing around here?" A deep and sharp voice asked.
"Uh, uh… I'm looking for your grandson?" Lukas said.
A tall and intimidating old man stood in front of him. He reminded Lukas of the Guildmaster of the Hunters Association, but it was a different case entirely.
The Guildmaster had a smaller form, as if age had still caught up to him and shrunk him to some extent, but the old Vampire that stood in front of him was built to last.
"Von has invited you here?" the old Vampire's gaze narrowed at him.
"Uh, yeah." Lukas said. "Definitely. Well… actually, no. I just thought that I'd give him a surprise visit and dropped by here without any invitation. I hope that's alright, sir, Overlord?"
Lukas knew that if this old man questioned the Aurelius guy, he'd be doomed, but if he made some excuse, then there was a chance that he'd be able to get out of here in one piece.
"Why are there no guards to accompany you then?" the old Vampire gruffly said. "They should have escorted you to here and contacted one of our servants if that had been the case, regardless of your arrival."
"Oh, haha… about that." Lukas scratched the back of his head. It was hard to gauge the expression of the old man, but as far as Lukas could tell, he wasn't mad.
"About this, yes." The old Vampire's expression was stern and unyielding.
Lukas didn't think that old Vampires would look that old, since Chaerin's grandmother was able to look young… and he had a feeling that an Overlord would be more powerful than Charlotte Atticus.
Which meant that this Vampire in front of him chose to look old and mature out of his own preference.
"I snuck in here and didn't say hello to the guards." Lukas offered a grin and expected for death to come by swiftly. It had been fun while it lasted and there had always been a part of Lukas that wondered if there was a save point somewhere.
The sound of a deep laughter burst into the hallway and Lukas nearly shrank back into the corner.
Because, oh fuck, he wasn't actually ready to test out his theory. Everything felt like the real thing to him now—but wait? Laughter?!
"Huh?" Lukas stared at the old man in confusion.
"I have yet to meet someone like you as Von's friend." The old man declared with a twinkle in his eye. "It's good to know that there's still some fire in other youths today. Bah! Most would walk through the door and expect to be waited upon, but you? Not at all. What's your name, son?"
Lukas didn't think that this Vampire would get impressed by the fact that he illegally trespassed into their area, but somehow, it all worked out in his favor.
"Lukas, sir Overlord sir."
"Call me, Leonardo. Leon for short." The old man guffawed and then eyed a couple servants at the end of the hallway. "Call for my grandson."
