Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 88: Close Quarters Combat
He had been waiting for this exact moment. He deliberately let the two mercenaries throw their grenades to draw Lin Kuang’s fire. As soon as Lin Kuang opened fire, the Major General would do the same. As for whether my own men live or die, I couldn’t care less.
Lin Kuang naturally saw the smile playing on the Major General’s lips. In response, an equally cryptic smile touched his own. The next moment, Lin Kuang fired the custom Desert Eagle he had taken from Angel, unleashing two bullets. The first shot flew out with incredible speed, striking the Major General’s bullet head-on.
BANG!
The two bullets erupted in a shower of sparks upon impact. Witnessing this, the Major General from Black Scorpion froze, unable to believe Lin Kuang had actually managed to shoot his bullet out of the air. As a high-ranking member of Black Scorpion, he knew hitting a bullet with another bullet required far more than simple marksmanship. It demanded superhuman perception, keen judgment, and the ability to calculate wind speed, read air currents, and account for countless other factors to achieve such a feat.
As the Major General processed this, a sense of mortal peril washed over him. Reacting instantly, he ducked his head. He truly lived up to his rank; his reaction speed was astounding. The Major General had barely ducked when the second bullet whizzed past his arm, leaving the smell of scorched air in its wake. An instant later, the Land Rover’s windshield shattered completely.
Huddled in the passenger seat, the Major General roared, "This looks bad! Drive! Get us out of here, now! Full speed!" The driver’s first instinct was to brake, but at the Major General’s command, he slammed his foot on the accelerator instead, causing the SUV to lurch forward.
Lin Kuang immediately gave chase. He could have easily taken out the driver, but he didn’t dare. Fan Bingbing is still in that car. If the driver loses control and they crash, she could be seriously hurt. That was the only reason the driver was still alive; otherwise, he never would have escaped Lin Kuang’s aim. For now, he held his fire and focused on staying close behind them.
The two vehicles tore down the highway in a death-defying chase, as if their lives depended on it. Lin Kuang barely touched the brakes, his foot only on the accelerator, constantly pushing for more speed. The Land Rover ahead was just as reckless, scraping against other cars a few times. Though the damage was minor, Lin Kuang winced with each impact. What if one of those collisions hurts Fan Bingbing?
Lin Kuang hadn’t expected Black Scorpion to be so prepared, lying in ambush and even having a tunnel ready. If only I had known beforehand, none of this would have happened. But in this world, there are no "if onlys."
The high-speed pursuit continued for a full hour before both cars screeched into a desolate suburban area. The Land Rover ahead came to a stop, and the Major General stepped out. Just as he did, Lin Kuang’s car pulled up.
Lin Kuang opened his door and leaped out. The two men faced each other, the tension between them so thick it felt like sparks were flying through the air.
"A Major General? The Brigadier Generals I’ve encountered from Black Scorpion don’t possess this kind of strength."
Staring at the burly, clearly battle-hardened man before him, Lin Kuang felt a surge of caution. Veterans who had survived the crucible of war were always the most difficult opponents.
Hearing Lin Kuang’s words, the Major General raised an eyebrow. "So, you must be Lin Kuang. You’re the one who killed Garun on the plane, right? And Angel a few days ago?"
"That’s right. The man on the plane and Angel were both my handiwork," Lin Kuang stated calmly, as if discussing something trivial.
The Major General smiled, his gaze filled with a hint of appreciation. "Kid, your strength is impressive. If you join Black Scorpion, I guarantee you’ll start as a Major General, with the potential to become a full General. What do you say?"
Lin Kuang simply shook his head and smiled. "If you’re trying to recruit me, save your breath. It’s absolutely impossible." His voice was calm, but his tone was filled with unshakeable conviction. As a soldier, how could I ever join the enemy?
Hearing this, the Major General nodded. "Understood. Since we can’t be comrades, only one of us is leaving here alive today." With that, he squared his stance, his eyes fixed on Lin Kuang.
Lin Kuang nodded in acknowledgment. The next instant, he shot forward like a cheetah pouncing on its prey, his speed astonishing. The Major General’s eyebrows shot up, clearly surprised that Lin Kuang was even faster than he had anticipated.
In a flash, Lin Kuang was right in front of him. He threw a straightforward, unadorned punch aimed directly at the Major General’s head. The sight ignited the Major General’s fighting spirit. Instead of dodging, he met the attack with a punch of his own. In an instant, their fists slammed into each other.
BANG!
An invisible shockwave rippled out from the point of impact. The Major General retreated several steps with a frown, while Lin Kuang only swayed slightly before pressing his attack once more. This exchange gave the Major General a clear measure of Lin Kuang’s power. The man wasn’t just his equal—he was possibly even stronger.
Shaking out his numb arm, the Major General’s eyes flickered with excitement. He stabilized his stance, then pushed off the ground, his burly frame launching toward Lin Kuang like a cannonball.
Lin Kuang remained calm, throwing another punch at the Major General’s head. This time, the Major General didn’t meet it head-on, instead twisting his body to the side to evade the blow. Immediately after dodging, he threw a left hook toward Lin Kuang’s abdomen.
Logically, Lin Kuang’s forward momentum should have carried him past the counterattack. But Lin Kuang completely defied that logic. Taking a sharp breath, he arrested his forward momentum and retreated backward, seemingly defying the laws of physics. A flicker of shock crossed the Major General’s eyes. Lin Kuang was full of surprises, which only made him more wary.
After evading the punch, Lin Kuang pivoted on his left foot. He channeled the powerful momentum from his core into his right leg, unleashing a ferocious whip kick aimed at the Major General’s chest. The Major General was stunned by Lin Kuang’s explosive speed; there was no time to dodge.
Left with no choice, the Major General threw up his forearms to block the blow.
BANG!
The sickening thud of flesh on bone echoed as the force of the kick sent the Major General staggering backward.
