Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 186: A Change is Coming (11 more updates)
Holding their glasses, everyone downed their drinks in one gulp. They then sat down to eat and drink, with the conversation gradually shifting toward Zhang Lianmei.
The established bosses present were intensely curious about the suddenly prominent Zhang Lianmei, but they were also quite wary of her. For a woman to have taken control of the entire Eagle Sect without anyone noticing was no ordinary feat. Furthermore, the Eagle Sect was powerful enough to be ranked among the top factions present.
"Zhang Lianmei, congratulations. You’ve certainly managed to impress us old-timers," Zhou Datou said with a laugh, looking at her.
Hearing this, Zhang Lianmei offered a faint smile. "Boss Zhou, you’re too kind. In the presence of all you respected figures, Lianmei is merely a junior. In the future, the Eagle Sect will need the support of all you seniors. I’ll drink to that first as a sign of respect."
With that, Zhang Lianmei stood up, raised her glass, and let her gaze sweep across the room before downing the drink in a single motion.
Listening to her words and watching her actions, even Chen Jiachong found himself looking at Zhang Lianmei with new appreciation. She truly is a woman of considerable skill. And her people handle their affairs flawlessly. It seems her becoming the new master of the Eagle Sect was no accident, but an inevitability.
At this thought, Chen Jiachong and the others also raised their glasses and drained them.
Afterward, the group continued to chat. Around ten-thirty, Zhang Lianmei’s phone vibrated. It was a text message informing her that everything was ready and they could act at any time.
Seeing this message, Zhang Lianmei’s mood relaxed significantly. Finally, it’s time to make a move! A slight smile touched her lips.
The next moment, she glanced at Zhou Datou and picked up her wine glass, intending to propose a toast. But as she did, her hand seemed to slip. The glass clattered to the floor and shattered into pieces. Hearing the sound, everyone froze for a moment.
"My apologies, seniors, my apologies. My hand slipped, and I dropped my glass," Zhang Lianmei said with a look of sincere regret.
But just as her words faded, a gunshot echoed through the room.
BANG!
A bullet shattered the window and tore straight through Zhou Datou’s temple.
Zhou Datou stared blankly at everyone for a second before his body went stiff. He pitched forward out of his chair, his corpse slumping to the floor. The agreement between Zhang Lianmei and Lin Kuang was simple: the dropped glass was the signal. As soon as Zhang Lianmei dropped her glass, Lin Kuang would shoot and kill Zhou Datou.
Lin Kuang, hidden on the roof of the nearby TV station, had a clear view and had seen Zhang Lianmei drop the glass. That was why he fired, killing Zhou Datou with a single shot. Of course, for Lin Kuang, a task like this presented no difficulty whatsoever. One shot, and Zhou Datou was dead.
Seeing this, everyone was stunned. Immediately, the crowd dropped to the floor, some scrambling to hide under the tables.
Among those present, only Chen Jiachong remained relatively calm. His gaze, however, was locked on Zhang Lianmei. There has to be a connection between her dropping the glass and Zhou Datou being shot. This is definitely not a coincidence!
His expression hardened, and he asked somberly, "Miss Zhang, why did you do this?"
"Do what?" Zhang Lianmei asked, appearing puzzled.
"Heh, Miss Zhang, there’s no need to pretend. If you hadn’t dropped that glass, I doubt that sniper would have fired," Chen Jiachong said, his voice eerily calm.
Seeing his expression, Zhang Lianmei knew she could no longer hide the truth. She had already decided before coming that she would conceal it if she could, but if she couldn’t, so be it.
"Brother Chen, this is a personal grudge between Zhou Datou and me. So, I ask for your understanding," Zhang Lianmei said with a slight bow and a smile.
"Damn it, you bitch! You dare make a move on our boss!" At that moment, the bodyguard Zhou Datou had brought with him suddenly lunged forward, pulling a Desert Eagle from behind his back.
However, before he could even raise the weapon, another gunshot rang out, and the man’s head exploded. This was, of course, Lin Kuang’s doing. He had been watching the entire time; how could he possibly let anyone harm Zhang Lianmei? Zhang Lianmei, for her part, had absolute faith in Lin Kuang. When the bodyguard had cursed at her, she hadn’t even turned her head. She believed, with unwavering certainty, that Lin Kuang would eliminate the threat.
And indeed, Lin Kuang did not disappoint, taking out his target cleanly.
Witnessing this, Chen Jiachong’s gaze sharpened, and his estimation of Zhang Lianmei rose yet again.
"Of course, your personal feud has nothing to do with me. I was just asking," Chen Jiachong said flatly.
Hearing this, Zhang Lianmei smiled faintly. "Then I thank you, Brother Chen. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave. I’ll be sure to visit you again when I have the chance."
With that, she turned and walked away, her composure so complete it was as if she were strolling through her own home. Regardless of anything else, that level of boldness was something few could ever hope to match.
Chen Jiachong watched her retreating figure in silence, his expression thoughtful.
Just then, another gang boss, one who had been as close as a brother to Zhou Datou, fixed his eyes on Zhang Lianmei. Seeing his friend murdered had left him incensed. As he watched her back approaching the doorway, a ruthless resolve took hold of him. He produced a revolver and was about to aim for Zhang Lianmei’s head.
However, before he could pull the trigger, another gunshot split the air.
BANG!
The sharp report tore through the night, and the gang boss was killed instantly. His eyes were wide open as his body collapsed, a look of utter disbelief frozen on his face, as if he couldn’t comprehend that he had been eliminated.
Throughout this, Zhang Lianmei’s pace never faltered, her gait remaining as composed as ever, as though she hadn’t noticed a thing. But she knew that her palms were soaked with sweat. If not for my absolute trust in Lin Kuang, I would never have dared to do this.
Fortunately, Lin Kuang hadn’t disappointed her in the slightest. At this thought, Zhang Lianmei heaved a quiet sigh of relief. After leaving the hotel, she made a phone call to her subordinates, ordering them to move out.
Tonight, the East Sea was destined to be a place of turmoil. The Leopard Hall was about to be annihilated, and the Eagle Sect would rise to power by stepping over its ashes.
Back in the room, Chen Jiachong seemed to sense something. He couldn’t help but gaze out the window at the starry sky.
"It seems the heavens over the East Sea are changing," he murmured to himself. "This Zhang Lianmei... she’s not someone to be trifled with."
This woman had even dared to kill Zhou Datou, Chu Zhongtian’s own representative, a testament to her ruthlessness. Paired with her unshakable calm and composure, she was undoubtedly a rising female tycoon in the East Sea. One should never cross a person like that lightly, or the consequences would be horrifying.
Meanwhile, Lin Kuang had already descended from the television station’s rooftop. He drove up and appeared at the main entrance of the Odin Hotel.
