Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 106: A Twist in the Plot
Upon hearing Han Qiaoqiao’s words, the faces of Lin Guo’er, Liu Shilin, and the Witch turned ashen with fury. Just as they were about to speak, Lin Kuang stopped them, signaling them to keep quiet and play it by ear.
"Oh? Is that so?" Chu Zhongtian asked with a smile, his narrow eyes briefly glancing at Han Qiaoqiao beside him.
Feeling Chu Zhongtian’s gaze, Han Qiaoqiao’s heart inexplicably trembled. It was an extremely unpleasant sensation, as if he could see right through her.
"Yes, yes, Mr. Chu," Han Qiaoqiao replied, trying her best to remain calm and not give anything away.
"Ah, I see," Chu Zhongtian said, turning his head to fix his gaze on Lin Kuang.
Their eyes met in mid-air, and the air between them instantly crackled with tension.
"My friend, don’t you think you owe me an explanation?" Chu Zhongtian asked, smiling at Lin Kuang.
"Oh? What kind of explanation are you looking for? Go on, I’m listening," Lin Kuang said with an equally calm smile.
"Shouldn’t you explain what happened here? I am the host, after all," Chu Zhongtian said, still smiling.
"If you’re not a complete idiot, you should know that what the woman next to you said is no different from a fart," Lin Kuang said with his customary shrug and a grin.
Hearing this, Han Qiaoqiao’s expression changed instantly, her beautiful eyes flashing with rage. "You—you’re slandering me!" she retorted angrily. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"Alright, Qiaoqiao, be quiet for now." Chu Zhongtian patted her head with a smile. The gesture was like someone stroking a pet, yet Han Qiaoqiao clearly enjoyed it.
"Regardless," Chu Zhongtian said, turning back to Lin Kuang, "you were the one who got physical in my establishment, were you not?" This time, his words carried a faint hint of Leng Yi.
"Oh, that’s true," Lin Kuang said lightly, glancing at Chu Zhongtian. "However, acting in self-defense doesn’t require an apology, does it?"
"Hmm? You have a point. In that case, let’s just drop the matter," Chu Zhongtian said with a laugh.
With that, he turned and left with Han Qiaoqiao.
This scene left everyone stunned. They had expected Chu Zhongtian to fly into a rage, perhaps even teach Lin Kuang a lesson on the spot. But for him to just walk away left them completely flabbergasted. The onlookers stared blankly, unable to comprehend what had just transpired, no matter how hard they thought. It was simply too unexpected.
Even Ye Tiannan, standing in the crowd, was dumbfounded. He had been delighted when he first saw Han Qiaoqiao confront Lin Kuang. When Chu Zhongtian appeared and Han Qiaoqiao began twisting the truth, Ye Tiannan had even thought his scheme to kill with a borrowed blade had succeeded. However, the events that unfolded completely subverted his expectations. He couldn’t understand it at all and was left frozen in place.
Lin Guo’er’s beautiful eyes had also widened in shock, her red lips slightly parted as her mind went blank with surprise. In her impression, Chu Zhongtian was a man who cared deeply about his reputation and was fiercely protective of his own. She couldn’t begin to fathom how furious he should have been. Yet, he had just said to forget it and walked away. It was beyond her imagination.
"Let’s go, too. We should find another place. This whole thing has ruined my appetite," Lin Kuang said with a helpless shrug. Seeing that Lin Guo’er, Liu Shilin, and the Witch hadn’t reacted, he called out again, "Hey, let’s go. What are you all standing around for?"
"Ah! Oh, oh, okay, let’s go." The three women snapped out of their daze as if waking from a dream, their speech still a bit jumbled.
Led by Lin Kuang, the four of them casually departed under the stunned gazes of the crowd. The onlookers were left in utter confusion, unable to process what had just happened. They felt as if their brains had short-circuited.
Meanwhile, Lin Guo’er, Liu Shilin, and the Witch followed Lin Kuang out of the Xiangya Club as if sleepwalking. It was only when they were outside the main entrance, looking up at the slightly darkening sky, that the three women fully returned to their senses.
"Alright, ladies, where should we eat now?" Lin Kuang asked, smiling at the three beauties before him.
"Umm, where... where should we go?" Liu Shilin asked, shaking her head as if to clear it.
"Follow me. We’ll go somewhere else," Lin Guo’er finally said, taking a deep breath.
Afterward, the three women rode together in Lin Guo’er’s car, leaving Lin Kuang to drive by himself.
Lin Kuang felt a little gloomy. Great. I had two beautiful women for company on the way here, and now I’m all by myself. This really sucks.
As the four of them left, the onlookers inside the Xiangya Club gradually returned to their seats, whispering amongst themselves about the incident. They couldn’t understand why the typically domineering Chu Zhongtian would let Lin Kuang off the hook. It left them utterly baffled.
Meanwhile, Chu Zhongtian had already led Han Qiaoqiao back to his office. He casually sat in the chair behind his desk while a nervous Han Qiaoqiao stood beside him. As a clever woman, she knew she didn’t need to say anything; Chu Zhongtian would ask.
"Han Qiaoqiao, you’re a smart woman. Your intelligence is precisely why I put you in charge of the Xiangya Club. And I trust that you will now tell me the truth." As he spoke, Chu Zhongtian leaned back and quietly lit a cigarette, seemingly waiting for her to begin.
Hearing his words, Han Qiaoqiao’s body trembled instinctively. Although she hadn’t interacted with him much, she was keenly aware of the faint Leng Yi emanating from Chu Zhongtian.
Seeing this, she dared not hide anything and quickly recounted the entire sequence of events. She recounted everything without concealing a single detail, from being kicked out of Yashi to Liu Dong delivering her the tip.
Chu Zhongtian listened quietly the entire time. Only after she had finished did he stub out his cigarette.
"Are you done?" he asked, looking up at her.
Hearing this, Han Qiaoqiao nodded quickly. "Yes, yes, I’m done."
She lowered her head and fell silent, her heart pounding with anxiety as she awaited his judgment.
"Han Qiaoqiao, you’re a smart woman, but did you ever stop to think why Liu Dong would give you that information? If I’m not mistaken, Ye Tiannan wanted to kill with a borrowed blade, and you were that blade!" Chu Zhongtian said flatly, his narrow eyes glinting with an all-seeing shrewdness.
