Chapter 449: Chapter 449: Like Human, Like Demon (3)

Xiaobai looked at Shao Kang in astonishment and chuckled; it turned out not all humans were fools. His eyes brimmed with amusement as he flashed a shallow smile.

Hu Liujin led a large army through a rain of arrows towards the city wall. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was the Marshal’s brother-in-law fighting with the enemy leader who had commanded the soldiers that morning: "Someone capture this man."

"Hold on, go about your own business, leave this person to me." He glanced at Hu Liujin atop his warhorse, waved his hand dismissively, and shooed Hu Liujin away. He had finally encountered such an interesting person, and he wasn’t about to let them go so easily.

Hu Liujin’s face quivered with flesh; he, after all, was a general, and yet this kid inexplicably disdained him. Watching the Marshal’s brother-in-law eye the man like prey, he waved his large hand in resignation, and the soldiers behind him followed Hu Liujin’s warhorse towards the Imperial Palace.

Shao Kang twitched his eyelid; was this his luck or misfortune? Although he hadn’t been captured, he couldn’t withstand his opponent’s mysterious moves. He laughed at himself mockingly but, eager to survive, he still fought, no matter how faint the chance—he wouldn’t give up.

"Come on, you monster, I refuse to believe I, Shao Kang, can’t defeat an old demon that’s half-human, half-beast."

"Pfft, great, little master can finally enjoy a good fight." Xiaobai laughed, eyeing the man who was close to breaking down, his mouth splitting into a wide grin.

Shao Kang focused intently on the creature, rapidly going over the losses he had suffered at its hands. As soon as he grasped something, he readied his strategy and advanced with his Iron Hammer. When the creature quickly dodged, he followed and immediately pivoted left, narrowly evading a vicious swipe. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Xiaobai blinked, the smile on his face growing wider: "Well, well, you’ve learned to dodge. But can you guess where I’ll strike next?" Without giving the man a chance to catch his breath, his shadow flashed past, and a fresh cut appeared across Shao Kang’s chest.

Shao Kang glared at Xiaobai with humiliated rage: "Fun, isn’t it? Well, today I’ll indulge you in a few moves." Throwing down his Iron Hammer in anger, he approached Xiaobai with bare fists.

Xiaobai bent down to dodge his punch, moved behind him, and then Shao Kang spun around with a kick, forcing Xiaobai to retreat. Seeing Shao Kang frantically attacking him, Xiaobai unleashed his shining, sharp claws and struck back.

Dugu Chen and Lou Qianyu arrived with the soldiers behind them. Dugu Chen, with sharp eyes, noticed Xiaobai’s lethal claws and cast a glance at Lou Qianyu’s astonished expression as he stared at Xiaobai fighting in front. Seizing an arrow, Dugu Chen’s fluid motion was filled with elegance, sending the deadly projectile straight towards Shao Kang’s back and piercing him through.

Shao Kang, with bloodshot eyes, slowly turned his body, but before he could see who had shot him, he fell to the ground with wide eyes, dead.

Xiaobai glanced at his brother-in-law, noticing his unpleasant expression and turned to see Lou Qianyu’s startled look at his own sleeve. Xiaobai then realized why his brother-in-law was displeased—the claws hidden in his sleeve quickly reverted to human hands. He smiled awkwardly at Dugu Chen and waved: "Brother-in-law, I was just playing around. You know, I’ve been bored for a long time."

Dugu Chen looked down, hummed coldly and said, "If you feel wronged here, feel free to go back."

"No, no, no, not at all! I don’t feel slighted in the least, really." Xiaobai waved his hands frantically, shaking his head like a rattle-drum. He was joking; before leaving, his sister had entrusted him to protect her husband. If he went back now, she would surely skin him alive.
