Chapter 375: Chapter 375 Poisoning (2)

Feng Xuxu glanced at him sideways and snorted, "Of course, didn’t you see, I personally chose the wet nurse, how could I be wrong!" She arched her eyebrows, her face exuding proud charm.

"Oh, looks like someone is getting cocky," Dugu Chen chuckled, indulgently stroking her delicate nose.

"That’s right, the child’s wet nurse must be chosen from those who are breastfeeding for the first time. Their milk is very nutritious, and after the children drink it, they don’t get sick easily, you know?" She rolled her eyes and continued to play with the baby on the bed.

Dugu Chen shook his head, "Yes, husband understands. Next time when picking a wet nurse, I’ll have the experience."

"Next time? Just wait for it."

"...Alright." He bowed his head, barely concealing his chuckle. It seemed that this was not a decision he could make alone. Perhaps he’d think about it again in a few years. For now, these two little tykes had already taken up much of his affection. If there was another one, he probably would have to sleep on the couch.

Seeing him smirk, Feng Xuxu poked him, "I’m asking you something!"

"Uh, what?" He turned around in surprise to meet her puzzled eyes.

"Our children have been born for half a month now, and you still haven’t decided on names."

"I’ve thought of a few, but I’m not sure which ones are good, waiting for you to decide." He mused in the study for a whole day to come up with a few satisfactory names.

Feng Xuxu reviewed them several times and finally pointed at the names on the paper, "The son shall be Dugu Qi, and you can name the daughter."

"Let’s call the daughter Yueyue." He recalled the night of his wife’s labor; the moonlight outside was exceptionally bright. Why not call her Yueyue, it’s easy to remember.

"Yueyue, Dugu Yue, mm, good," Feng Xuxu murmured, finding the name quite smooth on the tongue and nodded in satisfaction.

"Since mistress approves, I will petition tomorrow to register our children in the Royal Jade Disc."

"Mm, I have no objections."

After playing with the babies for a little while longer, and seeing them yawning repeatedly, they handed them over to the wet nurse.

Late at night, the lights in Wangyou Palace dimmed, and a gentle breeze caused the candle flames to flicker, casting dancing shadows on the walls.

"Master, the Shangguan family has been exterminated by imperial decree," the two said, seated opposite each other, playing a game of chess in the dim light.

The retired emperor moved a white piece and with a quiet ’clack’ placed it on the board, "You’ve lost," he declared.

Fu Wei looked on and chuckled ruefully. He never managed to win a game of chess against his master.

"I concede defeat," he said as he stood up and bowed.

Dugu Kangze shook his head with a chuckle, "Ah, it’s because you’re not focused on the game, just amusing this old man." He gestured for him to sit back down.

"It’s because master’s moves are superior; Fu Wei has already exerted his full strength."

He picked up his tea and took a gentle sip to moisten his throat, smiling at him, "Haha, you have too many distractions on your mind."

"Master, aren’t you worried at all? The Shangguan family vanished overnight."

"Hmm, it was bound to happen sooner or later." It just happened earlier than he had anticipated.

"So, what’s our next move?"

"Watch from the sidelines." The retired emperor gave a mysterious smile, then fell silent, quietly observing the chess pieces on the board.

Half a month flew by swiftly, and the day before the children’s full month celebration arrived. Feng Xuxu had stayed indoors for a whole month as per Dugu Chen’s instructions, and was supposed to continue for another month. After threats and coquetry, and even refusing to eat, Dugu Chen reluctantly agreed to her demands. However, he insisted she continue with the medicinal cuisine for another month. Feng Xuxu, eager to leave the room, vigorously nodded. Nothing else mattered as long as she could go outside—everything else was insignificant.

On the day of the full-month celebration, the Prince Mei Residence did not invite anyone over; only a few people came to offer their congratulations.
